<1> quickblaine> you could do that if you feel more comfortable with it
<2> what exactly is this new iso out
<3> quickblaine - You from the UK?
<0> yup
<4> I Have a total newb question.
<0> so if i reinstall, will i still have to do the mouseand wifi thing?
<5> and we have an answer
<5> ....probably
<4> I can't figure out how to search for a file or folder.
<3> locate <filename>
<6> edcorcoran, ubuntu version?
<4> How do I do it in the GUI?
<7> edcorcoran: apt-get install slocate
<4> I'm using Breezy Badger
<5> Places-Search for files

<4> From Nautilus?
<7> edcorcoran: then locate <myfile>
<6> mikere, the man is asking for a gui tool...
<8> excuse me, what is service named lpp source:127.0.0.1 with the same destination???using port 631
<9> edcorcoran: try what tristanmike said
<3> Something to do with printing, I think
<0> whats the best way to uninstall linux?
<9> lontong: the CUPS web interface i guess
<8> i see
<7> looksaus: bah only as an afterthought. I'm *sure* he really wants to use CLI tools!
<4> I don't see "search" in the places bar in Nautilus
<3> quickblane: I use the liveCD or the install CD to delete the linux partition.
<10> Where does firefox store it's cookies?
<4> Well, I want to know how to do it in the terminal, eventually. But first I want to learn the GUI.
<11> lontong, that's your shared printer
<5> quickblaine, yeah, just delete the linux partitions (both ext3 and swap) then automatically configure the free space
<6> edcorcoran, it definitely will be there in Dapper; sorry, no access to a breezy machine right here
<12> I wonder if anyone can help me solve a problem.. on boot, my local filesystems fail to mount
<8> and what about device sit0 ipv6 tunnel
<13> edcorcoran: if you have fast hardware, 'krusader' is a decent file manager (does nautilus not have a search function?!?)
<11> lontong, that's so you can access ipv6 addresses
<13> bbl
<5> edcorcoran, Place - Search for Files on the menu bar
<14> imagemaker, any error msg?
<15> Stormx2, In your profile folder somewhere (~/.mozilla), not sure of the subfolder structure.
<8> why i ask this, because i cant use synaptic or apt anymore
<4> I can't imagine Nautilus not having a search function.
<16> LjL: this is Siddhartha 211
<13> tristanmike: phew
<16> LjL: are you there
<11> lontong, what do they say to you?
<1> !1.0.0.0
<17> 1
<9> Mihir: yes
<4> It's like a on OS not having a compiler.
<18> Thanks everyone for the Help!
<4> It just doesn'6t make any sense.
<18> Thankyou
<16> LjL: What you told me to do didn't work, they said that they couldnt find /media/floppy
<11> edcorcoran, you have search, it's on your places menu
<14> edcorcoran, Places->Search in menubar
<8> i`ll show the output ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/breezy-updates/multiverse/binary-i386/Packages.gz: Could not connect to localhost:80 (127.0.0.1). - connect (111 Connection refused)
<4> Thanks!
<4> I found it.
<8> please help
<19> come someone please help me with this problem? http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=814660#post814660
<4> I was looking at the Places sidebar in Nautilus, not the Places menu on the main menu.
<4> what is the real name for the menubar at the top.
<5> edcorcoran, lol
<16> LjL: so i went to Computer, and i saw a floppy icon, and when i double clicked it to mount it, it said that the UDI was the problem
<8> i used to install proxify but now had uninstalled
<19> im trying to resize my breezy partition and install dapper, but its givin me crap
<5> edcorcoran, ready for this.....The Menu Bar
<9> Mihir: UDI? i do not know what that is
<12> erUSUL I have only been able to recognise the error on the kubuntu display as the system boots... it simply says mounting local filesystems fail... so ho hum, after some searching around I have not found much at all
<16> LjL: any ideas what I should do to mount it
<4> Makes sense. Thanks tristanmike
<16> i tried clicking on /dev/fd0 but it says that it is inaccessible
<9> can the live cd not mount floppies using "sudo mount /media/floppy"?
<5> edcorcoran, :P lol No probs
<16> when i do that

<14> imagemaker, so the boot process fails?
<16> it says
<11> lontong, check your /etc/apt/sources.list
<19> can someone please help me with this? http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=814660#post814660
<16> state the file system
<4> I have another question. I'm trying to install Firefox 1.5.0.1
<8> ok i`ve check it
<20> anyone here know any formal logic?
<16> so i added that vfat thing but it still didnt work
<8> and whatshould ?
<4> I downloaded the tarball from the firefox website, but I'm a little confused on what to do next.
<21> !tell edcorcoran about ff1.5
<4> SHould I just decompress it and then copy it over the firefox folder in my file system?
<15> flummoxed, The one thing I can tell you is that the scsi/sata naming confusion is normal. As far as the partitioning, it involves lvm and stuff, which I've never tried, so can't really help you there. Also, when you're not getting an answer, wait a while (I've been told >= 8 minutes), since someone who knows may have joined since you asked last.
<12> erUSUL yes, all the processes succeed other than mounting local filesystems...
<21> edcorcoran, no - see the URL the bot just sent you
<19> does anyone know what the LVM and ext3 filesystems mean?
<11> lontong, it should look like this http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/6047
<22> hello, is it possible to run acrobat reader on amd64?
<4> awesome, checking the link
<22> also as a plugin to firefox
<9> Mihir: i'm a bit confused about that. you could try "sudo mount -t vfat /dev/fd0 /any/directory/that/actually/exists".... like, first create a directory, e.g. "mkdir /home/username/floppymount", then "sudo mount -t vfat /dev/fd0 /home/username/floppymount"
<14> imagemaker, have you tried rescue mode?
<20> what do you guys use as a text editor for python?
<3> Kate's good
<6> mikebot, vi? gedit?
<23> mikebot: vi, emacs, kate, kdevelop
<8> actually mine is much longer because i added it manually
<20> you use more than one?
<23> mikebot: anything but idle
<19> thanks tony, didnt see that
<12> erUSUL, yes I did, but when there I didnt know what to do.. I ended up reading a load of info on mounting, but didnt find the solution
<7> mikebot: I like vim for most purposes - kates good too
<20> Unity, how can i get vi?
<8> because needed for instyalled previous software
<23> mikebot: type `vi` at a shell
<0> whats the windows command for the thing where you edit partitions?
<19> but still... anyone else know?
<11> lontong, sudo apt-get update
<22> hello, is it possible to run acrobat reader on amd64?
<22> gparted
<20> Unity, ah, thanks
<8> i`ve done that to
<6> LuKe-LuKe, no experience with that, but evince runs fine
<8> but with errors
<23> mikebot: warning, it takes a while to learn
<14> imagemaker, you get to the terminal in recue mode?
<7> mikebot: if you haven't used vi/vim much you will want to read a tutorial on it.
<11> lontong, what errors?
<9> "a while"
<12> erUSUL yes mate...
<7> Unity: I teach grade 9/10 students the basics in one lesson.
<23> mikebot: if you are not willing to learn, you may prefer a graphical editor
<7> like kate
<6> LuKe-LuKe, I might be telling you something you already know, but it's a really fine and well integrated pdf reader
<5> mikebot, you can type "vimtutor" for vim's tutor
<23> looksaus: it's not really fine...
<12> erUSUL terminal as root
<22> looksaus, thanks but i have to view the page on which i can only view the pdf, not download
<23> looksaus: takes a long time to sample certain pdf pages, and it shows others incorrecly
<20> tristanmike, mikere Unity okay, thanks
<7> tristanmike: better to google for a tutorial. I spent 2-3 hours figuring out the vimtutor my first time, lol
<14> imagemaker, try a mount -a
<8> most of them like this Err http://archive.ubuntu.com breezy-backports/multiverse Packages
<8> Could not connect to localhost:80 (127.0.0.1). - connect (111 Connection refus ed)
<6> Unity, file bugs, and be patient...
<22> looksaus: can i make it with something else that acroread
<22> ?
<24> has anyone here used root-portal i can;t seem to get it to run under dapper
<8> and this Failed to fetch http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/breezy/Release.gpg Could not connect to localhost:80 (127.0.0.1). - connect (111 Connection refused)
<8> this is the last pats E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)
<8> E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?
<6> LuKe-LuKe, if you can view it, you can also download it
<11> lontong, please use my nick, when replying type anto and press tab to complete it, I see now you had a proxy set up
