<0> rami, lots if info on the forum... Windows to linux equates too... <1> schalken: rmdir if it is empty, rm -r if you want to delete a directory along with everything in it <2> well ok I'll start looking, any recomendations for development IDEs? <3> anjuta <4> ubotu tell tux0010 -about xgl <5> _jason: thanks! <2> is there anything equivalent to Macromedia Dreamweaver? <6> RamiK***ab: kdevelop <2> thanks btw guys <6> RamiK***ab: but depend what language you will use <7> nvu is probably the closest <2> yeah I've used Kdevelop, I'm looking for something that enables me to work off of an SSH/SFTP connection <8> stephan__ seeing that you are wanting access to something you don't have access to may i ask what it is ? (incase any sujestions or warnings should be issued) <9> RadiantFire, I would say Nvu <2> I'm looking at developing mainly in PHP, CSS, HTML, ASP etc <10> nvu
<2> from what I've seen with Kdevelop, I don't know if it's best for that <11> RamiK***ab, if you're knowledgable (or know nothing) bluefish <10> for php there are too many editors to list, you can always try zend studio if you have $ <9> If you are going for PHP and ASP and stuff a text editor would be sufficent <12> RamiK***ab: I'd just use a text editor with syntax highlighting <13> farous, I prefer Python, and C++, or perhaps, C99 <14> intelikey: i put someone quake3 files in a reiserfs filesystem but i can only play the game in root <2> well I use VI quite a bit, like I said though, I'm looking for something that can work over an SFTP/SSH connection thought and VI can't quite do that yet :) <10> nickrud: hmm i was just looking for a power html editor <13> RadiantFire, VI stinks. Use vim instead. <2> I may just setup a local apache/mysql/webmin/virtualmin server though <15> I am new to linux and ubuntu, so how do I install a media player? <16> is it possible to install build-essential from the internet? my cdrom drive is not functioning properly, and the package manager is asking from my install cd <12> RamiK***ab, Arafangion meant you instead. <6> Arafangion: its a matter of taste. but most companies i work with require java specific <15> anyone have one to recommend? <8> stephan__ k chmod it <10> this isnt the 20th century <14> intelikey: <2> [LiFE]: sudo apt-get install xmms <9> Arafangion, its a WHOLE 1 letter better ;) <2> that's a good one <14> intelikey: ok <10> RamiK***ab: http://fuse.sourceforge.net/sshfs.html <13> farous, Java is also a decent language, but WHY, oh why can't it support operator overloading? <6> [LiFE]: totem is installed by default <8> stephan__ if you need exec chmod +x file <11> inono, bluefish. I know just a little about that stuff, but it seems to have the best tools. <10> there you go, work over SSH with any editors which support remote editing <13> Ademan, The 'm' doesn't stand for "iMproved" for no reason. <9> Java is good but the need for large runtimes across platforms is annoying <10> sudo apt-get instal sshfs <17> hmm so nobody going to help me setup my atheros ar5005g wireless nic <13> AdmiralCrunch, It is also it's greatest advantage, imho. <10> RamiK***ab: http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Dapper#How_to_mount_remote_folders_into_local_Ubuntu_machine_.28sshfs.29 <11> AdmiralCrunch, talking about 'large' seems out of date <2> inono: that looks good <18> alright so even after doing the dpkg-reconfigure i dont have direct rendering <18> glx and dri are installed <18> and libglide3 and everythign <10> I use it all the time for editing python files remotely <13> AdmiralCrunch, A large, somewhat standard API that works everywhere Java works. <15> RamiK***ab: what about vlc? any good? <8> stephan__ only reason i asked is people come in here, it's their first day ever seeing linux and they ask how to make all files 777 and you just don't do things like that. <11> |_ocke, voodoo 3? <18> nickrud, yes <17> anybody using subversion? <2> inono: now that we're on the topic of mounting a filesyste, how the hell do I get my XP filesystem mounted? I've looked around but can't figure it out <12> troytroy: yep <12> !tell RamiK***ab about ntfs <2> I read somewhere that mounting an NTFS filesystem is built into the Kernel <10> yeah good luck about ntfs... <17> Flannel: how cool is it? <2> lol <18> ntfs works alright for me <10> i wouldnt mount it read/write unless you want to hose your hard drive <13> RamiK***ab, There is no problem with mounting windows partition, you just won't be able to write to them. <12> troytroy: it is indeed. <18> course i havent wrote to i
<2> no I just want it to be read, I know writing is very buggy <17> Flannel: have any knowledge bout wireless <10> you can try to use captive for read/write <2> I already got my EXT3 fs mounted in Win XP <10> ahhh, read-only? thats easy <11> |_ocke /https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Voodoo3doesnotdo3d <9> Arafangion, I am taking Java next year so we'll see if my opinion changes, but for now I am content with Python for my cross platform needs <12> troytroy: I do not. <10> there's a ntfs kernel module, use synaptic and search for ntfs <19> So I accidently did a 'sudo rm -rf /dev'... instead of the individual file I wanted deleted. Is there any hope for me to restore my /dev directory? <20> Hi... I'm having a problem with apt-get... whenever I try to do sudo apt-get upgrade it gives me this error. If I try and do a apt-get upgrade -f it tells me that it's gonna remove a ****load of packages including X. How can I fix it? <6> RamiK***ab: if you can have a FAT partition then you can use it for communication between window and linux <17> ok <11> bobc, reboot <15> sigh <17> anybody cool with wireless <10> you can use truecrypt too <15> so many things to learn <2> Arafangion: yeah writing isn't a big deal for me <20> http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/15583 <- error it gives me. <13> AdmiralCrunch, May I advise Eclipse if you are in a situation where you absolutely must use an IDE for various reasons (In my cl***, everybody had to use BlueJ, which _stinks_). <19> nickrud: really, it will be ok? <13> AdmiralCrunch, I also recommend ArgoUML <17> i need surgery ASAP <11> bobc, /dev is created dynamically <21> HI just a tiny problem: what's the key, if any, to escape ubuntu's remote terminal full screen mode ??? <19> OK, thanks! <11> bobc, ***uming you're using a stock ubunt <9> Arafangion, thanks for the reccomendation <15> interesting <8> bobc you probably hosed the static device nodes but udev should cover your but on that error. <15> I got this to actually work <8> t <22> troytroy: what is the problem? <18> i've got all those options the same, trying to just do it accelerated for now but its not working <13> AdmiralCrunch, I am a vim junky, myself, but eclipse can be rather nice at times. <19> nickrud: well, kubuntu, yes, pretty stock, what would not be stock, custom kernel? <23> sladen: that did not work, still no usplash <20> can anyone help? I'm having a problem with apt-get... whenever I try to do sudo apt-get upgrade it gives me this error. If I try and do a apt-get upgrade -f it tells me that it's gonna remove a ****load of packages including X. How can I fix it? ERROR: http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/15583 <2> farous: that's too much work :) <24> is there a good howto for writing to ntfs? <2> I could set it up in Partition Magic but right now there's no need for me <10> AlienX: shoot yourself in the foot <24> inono, yeah no kidding. It's for my roommate's computer :( <6> RamiK***ab: lol there is ext2fs driver look up sourceforge for them. though i do not recommend them <12> AlienX: writing to NTFS is no stable, and as such, you can hose your entire NTFS partition <13> AlienX, I hear that paragon ntfs (commercial) allows you to do that. <10> here you go everyone!!!! http://www.jankratochvil.net/project/captive/ <11> |_ocke, the key thing is using 16 bit as the default resolution. I've used that page more than once <24> Flannel, i am aware of the risks <2> Also guys, I remember some years ago there was software out there that let you load Linux within Windows in a window (virtual machine software). Is there still something like it? <25> How can I run a sudo command like /etc/acpi/sleep.sh sleep from console just on my normal user account? <10> dont forget to shoot yourself in the foot if you want to write to NTFS (http://www.jankratochvil.net/project/captive/) <5> nickrud: yay i fixed it! settings accelleration and sensitivity to -1 in gconf-editor sets it to system default. thanks! <9> Arafangion, for the past few years I have never really gotten into the vi, vim, emacs realm before, but I understand its advantages, I have just been using gedit and such <12> AlienX: the link inono is giving is the one, captive. <8> AlienX best howto for writing to ntfs is dd if=/dev/zero of /dev/hd?# but that's just my opinion <21> anyone uses remote terms ? <17> cherwin: thank good would have bled to death <24> Flannel, sweet! <21> like to access a windows remote desktop <26> anyone here played around with internet connection sharing and know how to config etc/dhcpd.conf? - i need help with 2 network card configuration <11> |_ocke, and | as your first character is very annoying <24> intelikey, lol yeah i wish i wasn't dealing with any of his windows crap <18> i have 16 as default res :P, i'm trying using that script and stuff though <10> anyway that will only work on x86 not x86_64 <2> farous: for accessing my linux filesystem within windows? <10> umm .. yeah.. good luck :D <18> its just been my nick since i was like 12 <17> cherwin: i need to setup my atheros ar5005g wireless nic <18> what client are you using that | is weird? <9> RamiK***ab, http://e2fsprogs.sourceforge.net/ext2.html <6> RamiK***ab: they said when i used it long time ago ext2 and ext3 i do not know if they have other support you should just look thier page up <13> AdmiralCrunch, In particular, I'm a vim + screen junky, and I basically use the tools that the OS gives me. It can be a rather nice system, and any time something doesn't work, I can find it out easily. No more trying to figure out the HECK why something wrong (and you can't figure out what that is) in VS ASP.NET.
