<0> has anyone gotten Ragnarok workin ?
<0> the game
<1> davidleeroth: probably
<2> yahya: you could make an alias in your .bashrc file. something like: alias nodirs='ls -l | grep -e "^d" -v
<3> it already is lol
<4> AntMaz: to install jedit you will need to see if you can find a deb or tar for it
<3> and it only plays one noise at a time
<2> yahya: probably a better way to do it though
<5> Anyone know hwo to make it so I can have the perms change on files automatically when they are copied from a ro partition?
<6> One more question: On load, it tells me I'm running testing/unstable ubuntu. Is there any way I can change this and roll everything back to stable?
<1> dulouz: or ls -F | grep -v '/$'
<7> how do I check what timezone my box is set to?
<8> yahya: if you use zsh instead of bash, you get all kinds of things like not listing directories
<9> well they have the tar for it at source forge i think let me get it
<10> dulouz: thanks.. forgot i could grep the -l listing :)
<11> gnomefreak - seems to me I installed jedit simply by extracting the jedit.jar from the package and running java -jar jedit.jar ... fwiw

<2> amphi: yeah :)
<4> naetrick: not if you installed things from unstable
<6> gnomefreak: I installed from the Breezy stable CD
<12> so how do i run .deb/.exe/.rpm?
<13> does anyone know how to use a variable to define variables in c++?
<14> Greetings all
<4> naetrick: i mean packages using the unstable repos
<9> hey does java come with gnome
<15> andrew_: you don't run .debs or .rpms, you install them. you run .exe (i.e. Windows programs) using Wine
<6> I did install some testing packages, yes
<4> AntMaz: not really
<16> so i installed the flash player plugin for firefox and now flash videos and stuff play but there is no sound what do i do?
<8> andrew_: .deb and .rpm are packages. you don't run them, you install them. and .exe are windows executables. you run them in windows, or in something like wine or cedega
<1> andrew_: if by .exe you mean ms windows 'PE' executable format, you need wine I believe
<9> so id have to get java first
<13> does anyone know how to use a variable to define variables in c++?
<9> to install jedit
<4> naetrick: the only way i know to become a stable system again is to re-install breezy
<12> ok, so how/where do i install them?
<15> andrew_: .debs can be installed using "dpkg" (but rather, use "apt-cache search <packagename>" to find packages that are already in the Ubuntu repositories). rpms can be installed using "alien" (not recommended).
<17> andrew_: .debs are packages to install. Ideally you wouldn't do any of the above, but would use apt instead. If you must, you can though. We just want to make sure you aren't misled into doing suomething unnecessary.
<16> so i installed the flash player plugin for firefox and now flash videos and stuff play but there is no sound what do i do?
<14> @taylor - does your sound work normally (ie to play music)?
<4> AntMaz: yes you will need javaskd or jdk
<6> gnomefreak: And on the CD it's not possible to do a repair install? If so, how do I?
<16> yea with a cd in the drive
<18> ciao
<16> but off the internet no
<18> please
<18> help me
<18> i get this problem
<4> naetrick: it may be possible but its not easy and i dont remember how to do it :(
<18> LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library libXt.so [libXt.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory]
<18> LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library libXext.so [libXext.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory]
<18> Segmentation fault
<12> tonyyarusso dkpg is ok tho right
<16> and i can here the sounds that gnome makes
<14> what about .wav and .mp3 files? have you checked your mixer volumes?
<4> its easier to install it from scratch
<6> Does anyone else here know how to do a repair install on the Ubuntu install CD?
<9> love gogle and mozilla as long as you spicify what you want it shows up
<17> andrew_: Yes, but not as good as apt-get, because it won't automatically update the file the same way (I believe).
<9> naetrick just reinstall it
<15> andrew_: dpkg isn't always ok, you must take care that the .deb package you're going to install is actually for Ubuntu and for you Ubuntu version specifically. also, dpkg won't take care of any dependencies, so most packages will fail unless you install them manually
<16> i dont have any .wav or .mp3 to listen to
<4> its faster and easier than repairing it
<15> andrew_: so, before you try to install anything from raw .deb or .rpm, please be sure that you have all standard Ubuntu repositories enabled (main, universe and multiverse) and that you know how to use apt-cache to search for packages.
<13> does anyone know how to use a variable to define variables in c++?
<4> naetrick: its gonna walk you through the install under repair anyway
<9> i didnt know gnomefreak im new to linux
<5> Anyone know how to make a partition mounted as read only but have copies end up with different perms?
<17> andrew_: So basically, if it's in the repos, use apt, if it's not, worry about whether it's specifically an Ubuntu build or not, if it is go ahead, if not, ask whether you really need to, and try anyway if yes, cautiously.
<12> so how would I install "FrostWire-4.10.5-0.i586.deb"
<6> morpheus2485: #c, #c++
<9> it only took me about an hour to install ubuntu
<4> AntMaz: you answered good
<13> naetrick?
<13> c++ can't do it?
<19> I have a problem. I have a folder shared in Ubuntu. Windows can see it - but when I try to access it from Windows, it asks me for uname and pwd, when I type ubuntu un and pwd, it doesn't work.
<14> right-click on the speaker icon in your system tray and go to 'open volume control', then scan along there and make sure the wav slider is up to a decent level
<4> morpheus2485: /join #c++

<16> so how do i make firefox able to play music from flash
<20> the liveCD automagically mounts firewire disks...cool!
<15> andrew_: "dpkg -i FrostWire-4.10.5-0.i586.deb"
<9> so is sudo a shell comand that connects to an ftp
<12> taylor_ you should go to the firefox chanel/server for that
<16> what is it
<15> andrew_: with sudo of course
<17> LjL: ***uming you're in the directory where that file is also.
<21> Ompaul: Ok, it's in the process of downloading the file
<19> Help anyone? :-P
<22> phelan, :-)
<17> taylor_: Maybe see !flashesd.
<12> so sudo dpkg -i FrostWire-4.10.5-0.i586.deb is ok?
<21> Ompaul: Is file 5 supposed to take a while? oO
<22> yes
<16> !flashesd
<23> To get macromedia flash to work correctly with esd sound, read ALL of this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t
<24> hello, i have a question about using usb media in ubuntu
<17> Carpe_Libertatem: I don't know if this is actually necessary, but I solved a similar problem by having the Linux account and Samba accounts set up with the same username and p***wd as were in use on the Windows box.
<24> even though my usbstick gets reported by dmesg, i cant seem to let it automount (in /media )
<24> im running dapper
<25> How do I find out my computer's IP?
<19> tonyyarusso, is the Samba separate from the Linux account?
<1> darthbutcher: sudo ifconfig
<9> hey with gnome anyone know how to read a fat32 drive i tried mounting it ,didnt work though
<25> Do you mean: sudo ipconfig?
<26> !mountwindows
<23> Download and run http://www.ubuntulinux.nl/files/diskmounter to make your windows or mac partitions mount automatically. If you wish to set it up yourself by hand, read: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AutomaticallyMountMSWindowsPartitions
<1> darthbutcher: I do not
<25> ok
<24> is there something I should eb aware of? (this is an original warty release that has been updated to breezy and then dapper.)
<1> darthbutcher: it is ipconfig in plan 9
<25> Ok.
<17> Carpe_Libertatem: Yes. You can add users with sudo smbp***wd -a username
<25> Thanks.
<15> tonyyarusso: well, then "dpkg -i `find ~/ | grep FrostWire | grep deb`;)
<25> And what would be the IP?
<5> Anyone know how to make it so A partition can't be written to but copied files can?
<17> darthbutcher: That will be internal though. If you need external (are behind a router), the only ways I know of for that are a gdesklet and whatismyip.com.
<19> Thanks, I'll try that and see if it works.
<24> the thing didnt work in breezy, but i thought it was because of some changes in hald, but now it still doenst work in dapper
<17> LjL: Yes.
<25> No, Ineed the IP for Samba.
<9> be right back
<18> please. i can't navigate with any web browser. the error is LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library libXt.so [libXt.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory]
<18> LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library libXext.so [libXext.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory]
<18> Segmentation fault
<17> amphi: What's plan 9?
<1> tonyyarusso: plan9.bell-labs.com
<21> Ompaul: Hmm...this appears to be taking the better party of forever. :S:P
<17> amphi: Will take a look.'
<22> phelan, u on dsl or dial up
<26> is there a way to search package names/descriptions available for download via the console?
<4> Enchanter_tim: things will work in breezy before they work in dapper
<9> hey in the kde set up i make the default km or gdm for the default diplay manager
<25> Samba is confusing me!
<24> gnomefreak: this doesnt ;)
<9> kdm"
<4> dapper is BROKEN
<1> tonyyarusso: it runs nicely under qemu if you want to play with it
<22> gnomefreak, you know it will break
<25> Iam not getting something I should under general in Networkig.
<25> Networking*
<21> Ompaul: This is my buddies DSL, but it's fast internet. The kind that averages 300k+ from a website.
<4> ompaul: it already is
<24> what is broken in dapper?
<27> is there anyone here who is willing to one on one help me with a little bit of linux setup: fluxbox, issue with dvdrom not reading, xmms closing randomly
<4> Enchanter_tim: seeing is that its unstable alot of things
<9> hey in the kde set up i make the default kdm or gdm for the default diplay manager
<4> Enchanter_tim: biggest issue is dependencies
<21> Ompaul Spit! It failed on the package release.gpg
<16> how do i get sound to work in flash movies and games with firefox it plays video but no sound
