<14> aridese: i'd say /etc/init.d/gdm but i'm not entirely sure if that's what you mean
<1> hey
<1> nny - is there an easier way to contact you
<10> :o
<15> after some unwise, or plain stupid keystrokes in dselect - I've gotten 24gb software waiting to get installed. the thing is, I don't want it. is there a way to neutralise this apt-bomb before it blows me and my computer to pieces?
<13> GeniusDex, like when i boot with recovery mode it doesn't go to X, but when i run a normal boot it goes to X. what's the script that launched the graphical interface?
<16> heh
<2> crimsun, my sound seems to work now. but still cant record with my microphone.
<14> aridese: if i'm right the /etc/init.d/gdm script launches X as well
<14> it's symlinked to from /etc/rc*.d/
<14> only for those runlevels that need it
<5> Thanks so much dude
<6> rend: you need to select it using alsamixer (F4, use space bar to toggle and 'm' to unmute)
<5> I got it running
<13> GeniusDex, ok -- but when i run recovery mode and just run "gdm" it tells me that my HAL hasn't been launched
<14> i have no clue about that, sorry
<17> hi all again, ubuntu is really slow. i'm running it on AMD64 Turion, 512MB RAM, 128MB Ati...

<24> lo all: Im installing Ubuntu, but I have to use a special yaboot, which means the installation stops at Yaboot install and I make my own yaboot from the command line (which works out fine). Then I return to the installer GUI, abort the installation and reboot into my new Ubuntu installation expecting the installation to continue but it doesn't. I am then stuck in cli ubuntu with no gui. Any suggestions?
<18> use the ubuntu installer?
<18> :-D
<24> i think i tried that
<25> bllx: If you have network up at that point, sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
<24> apt-get install ubuntu-desktop gives Unmet deps error
<25> bllx: But what's this yaboot shennanigans?
<24> its cos its on a firewire drive
<25> Ahhh
<0> oath, try pm
<26> bllx: what about 'apt-get -f install'
<24> the yaboot part works out fine tho
<25> Well, I don't know **** from that point onwards, best of luck to ya
<24> Engla: reckon thats worth a try
<24> ?
<24> ok
<24> with no package name

<27> is there a command line to list all the network devices?
<26> bllx: it is, it should try to resolve broken packages if there are any
<24> ok
<1> i need to register
<28> SGershon, ifconfig -a
<16> SGershon: ifconfig -a
<26> bllx: but it's strange about the deps problem. look at your sources.list file and make sure it's okay
<14> i won't add my ifconfig -a line there
<17> so once again, what do i have to do to make mubuntu work faster ?
<1> hm
<27> ogra, amphi, thanks
<16> oath: /msg nickserv help
<1> where can i register
<24> but python etc is installed, I can see it. But python, streamer etc are listed in the unmet deps errors
<28> GeniusDex, bah ... join the ifconfig team
<27> ogra, amphi, Is there a way to list only the devices (names) without the other info?
<14> :)
<1> nny - no i didn't see your pm sorry
<29> when installing breezy. and using the FN keys on my keyboard to change volume. it worked. and I got this little popup telling me how load it was in a progress bar. its gone now.. anyone know how to get it back? or what packages it is controlling that
<24> Engla: sources.list has just one line
<26> bllx: something clearly went wrong with your install. Why do you have to do the yaboot yourself?
<21> bllx, do apt-get update then apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
<26> bllx: what is that line?
<24> cos im installing on a firewire drive
<26> bllx: it should probably be more than one line
<26> bllx: no internet access?
<24> internet is fine
<27> is there a command line to list all the network devices (names only, without other info)?
<17> where can i get ati drivers for ubuntu ?

<30> What is this kay package?
<24> Engla: sources.list line is...(I have to type it out)..

<34> anyone know why i can't launch firefox 1.5?
<24> you see my sources.list ?
<30> frectie : /boot
<26> bllx: aha. That should be enough, the install disc should be enough. But normally internet sources are listed.. do you think it's a package that is unavailable or is it a conflict?
<29> LinuxJones: im using dapper on my workstation. works fine
<35> LinuxJones, I would wait until April when it is released
<36> (::) (GTX) Where can I get a newsgroup downloader

<34> i try from the terminal and it gives me some error about a binary file not being executable (i checked the permissions, it's a+x) does it jsut not work in breezy or something?
<21> klippo, navarone no major issues ?
<27> It was very nice fro you to think on this script for me!
<37> I'm seeing unexpected network traffic on my connection.. how can I identify the source of it?
<16> SGershon: mine is useless to you, nonetheless
<29> well. its considerd unstable.. so
<38> what is the recommended way to configure xorg in ubuntu?
