<0> BigDaddy: the ubuntu installer can resize your windows partition (back up first though) - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/forum/installation/Partitioning
<1> AddingRepositoriesHowto document reads "Click the Settings button at the bottom and tick"; once in Repositories, there is no Settings button. How can I add Repository in Ubuntu v5.1 ?
<2> BigDaddy: I've only had to resize a partition once (ntfs), and it worked perfectly
<3> bimberi: Which website would I know to add?
<4> BigDaddy, before resizing partition make sure you defrag windows first as well
<5> Jormundgand: the run command. I think its Alt-F12, though I have it remapped so I'm not sure
<6> anyone?
<7> BigDaddy: this pc, does it have software raid?
<8> navarone - oh...good idea
<0> peter__: select Settings -> Repositories (from the menu), then click the Settings button there
<4> alt f2 will give you run app dialog
<9> carpediem: in a format I can use in a commandline? (I'm setting 3ddesk as a keybind.)
<8> hacknslash - yeah it does.
<5> naetrick: because it conflicts with something else. run sudo apt-get info "x11-common"
<8> Does that mean something?
<3> ok got it

<10> hey...
<5> Jormundgand: yes, it pops up a box that you can enter a command.
<10> problem...
<7> BigDaddy: be very careful then, as software raid is sometimes installed onto the disc
<9> carpediem: but I want to keybind it so whenever I hit control-tab I get the 3ddesk thing.
<7> and a resize destroys it
<8> crap...I didn't know that
<10> my synaptic froze for some unknown reason during the configuration phase of a dist-upgrade
<9> A box which lets me type in "3ddesk" isn't very automated.
<5> Jormundgand: thats a little more complicated, but can be done.
<10> since then, i can't get the x-server back up again
<5> Jormundgand: sec, let me pm you...too much chatter for my slow brain.
<11> is xmms supports winamp skins?
<1> bimberi -- There is definitely not a Settings button within Repositories. Where do you say it is ? Upper Left, Middle, Bottom ??
<12> anybody know if myth 0.19 is rolled up into apt repositories yet ?
<9> carpediem: gotcha.
<13> navarone: It can't really be supposed to be that way? I didn't have the problem back in the days when I used Debian and 2.4.
<7> BigDaddy: sometimes there is a little partition, keep it intact
<14> i know that lsusb shows the usb connected devices, is there a similar command to show the ones connected to a pci-port?
<10> and when i boot, it hangs at the "I cannot start the X server" error message -- with no keyboard
<8> hacknslash - gotcha on that part
<10> how do i boot into a plain console to finish that upgrade/config process?
<13> amphi: http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php?page=DmixPlugin Is this the thing?
<4> nulani I dunno if it is supposed to be that way. I simply close other sound related prog before I use another. But I am easy that way...:)
<3> Bimberi, you here?
<0> peter__: to the right of the "Authentication" button below the list of software sources
<0> SomeFool: yep
<1> AddingRepositoriesHowto document reads "Click the Settings button at the bottom -- bottom within Repositories has "New", "Delete", "Cancel" and "OK" button.
<15> anyone here use KBFX
<3> This is where the problem is. I opened the rar file, but I cant extract no ISO files to my desktop or any folder to burn them. Can you help?
<13> navarone: I'd like to have sounds in, say, Gaim ( even though they're awful ) while listening to music though.
<3> Bimberi: It creates no folder, or anything. noe extraction.
<10> no idea how i can prevent the x-server from starting at boot?
<3> !tell me about iso
<0> SomeFool: i haven't used rar much, have you tried this ...
<4> nulani...yes i gotcha...can't help though...it's beyond my experience...:/
<0> !rar
<16> [rar] a non-free archive format created by Rarsoft. For instructions on accessing .rar files through the Archive Manager view https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FileCompression
<2> nulani: probably ;)
<17> how do I set bindings for extra mouse buttons (have an old intellimouse optical)
<3> Yes...
<3> Thats what I have to open rar files
<3> I cant extract. :(
<18> how do i listen to more then one audio program at a time on ubuntu?
<6> carpediem: It says invalid option "info"
<2> CanYouHelpMePlz: dmix plugin for alsa is one way
<6> What package is X? I just want to reinstall X
<5> naetrick: what does?
<18> amphi: is it easy?
<2> CanYouHelpMePlz: somewhat ;)
<18> amphi: okay,
<6> I accidentally uninstalled X
<6> carpediem: "apt-get info x11-common"
<13> naetrick: x-window-core, I believe.
<1> bimberi -- Authentication -- I was asked to authenticate when launching Synaptic. Synaptic GUI has Authentication within it ?
<2> CanYouHelpMePlz: see the url nulani posted above
<6> well, not accidentally
<19> SomeFool: when you say you can't extract them, what error do yo get?
<18> amphi: okay
<5> naetrick: oh, sorry, "apt-cache info x11-common"
<0> peter__: yes, it needs to be run as root

<6> that's not it "x-window-core"
<3> No error newbuntie.
<3> It doesnt do it. Thats all.
<6> same thing
<3> No iso nowhere. Still in the rar file.
<20> naetrick: what file did you delete?
<5> naetrick: err, gosh "apt-cache show packagename" Sorry, just woke up
<3> I can click "extract files here", but It still wont work.
<19> SomeFool: what happens when you right click on the file and chose Extract here?
<3> Doesnt work.
<20> newbuntie: it extracts the file there
<19> gnomefreak: thanks :)
<8> I don't suppose that having a 64bit processor would be a problem for the system resue CD?
<20> lo yw :)
<20> some did you try rar file.rar?
<21> BigDaddy: nope. both amd and intel chips can run 32bit
<3> I dont think thats going to do anything.
<8> this makes no damn sense then
<3> I can open the rar file, just cant extract the iso from it
<5> naetrick: it should tell you that it conflicts with something, and so apt-get wants to uninstall whatever it conflicts with.
<21> BigDaddy: what's your issue? i wasn't paying attention.
<8> sevtastic - the http://www.sysresccd.org won't boot for me
<22> SomeFool: dont open the file just right click and extract to where you want it
<20> SomeFool: is it a hidden file (the iso)
<19> SomeFool: so nothing happens when you click extract in the Archive Manager? It doesn't give you a dialog box?
<3> IdleOne: It still wont work buddy. I can extract it anywhere (Desktop), etc..It wont work.
<21> BigDaddy: are you using a sata optical drive by chance?
<8> http://www.sysresccd.org - I am pretty sure that it was recommended to me in here before I installed Ubuntu
<18> is their a way to listen to 2 audio sources on ubuntu without using dmix
<3> Gnomefreak: I dont know?...How do I check If its a hidden ISO?
<8> I don't believe so
<21> BigDaddy: okay, one sec
<3> Newbuntie: Nope. no dialog box, or anything.
<20> SomeFool: after extracting go to veiw and show hidden files
<20> if you are using natilus
<3> gnomefreak: Not there.
<18> their is no point to it.
<19> gnome: well, he should get a dialog box, even if the rar is broken
<6> that's odd, though, because they were running fine before
<12> anybody know if myth 0.19 is rolled up into apt repositories yet ?
<21> BigDaddy: this is a rescue cd. if you're dual booting windows and ubuntu all you need to do is resize your partition with partition magic or something and start installing ubuntu
<21> it will ask you which partitions to install on. you choose the ones you create for it and windows stays untouched
<13> amphi: I doesn't seem like dmix is fixing it, unless I'm doing something wrong. Test works, but beyong that, I still only have sound in one application at a time.
<8> http://www.sysresccd.org - I was wanting to use the partition tool on the rescue CD
<19> SomeFool: are other rars extracting without a problem?
<20> SomeFool: go to terminal cd into the dir that the rar was extracted in and type ls -a
<8> oops, wrong paste
<20> see if it shows it
<14> will one in some cases have to use wine with ndiswrapper when installing wireless cards?
<8> sevtastic - I was going to use the utility on the CD
<14> drivers that is
<21> BigDaddy: i see what you're saying now.
<23> jan_: no
<6> does the ubuntu CD have a repairer?
<5> naetrick: you can always tell it to ignore the conflict, but I wouldn't suggest it. Good way to confuse the heck out of apt.
<3> newbuntie: I dont think so...
<13> Anyone else have a suggestion how to make sound work in more than one application at a time.
<13> ?
<3> Gnomefreak: What would be the full command? sudo cd /directoryandson/ ?
<21> BigDaddy: the cd does not boot up? what errors do you get?
<6> Also, is there a log for apt-get on what you installed/uninstalled?
<6> carpediem? how?
<20> SomeFool: what file is it unrared in?
<6> it's showing me a list of about 900MB of files to remove
<23> naetrick: dpkg -L
<24> #gulli
<3> Its from xchat2 (mirc).
<3> Its in /home/bart/.xchat2/ I believeb
<3> Thats where I tried to extract the iso.
<8> no errors, it just boots to WIndows
<19> SomeFool: you don't think you can extract any rar? Then the problem is prolly with the archive manager/unrar
