<0> MAKEDEV sda
<1> I need the url to get 64 bit ubuntu to boot strap and run x86 flash support
<2> Frebrd: you have those 2
<3> Ompaul, No, no, I haven't touched the HDA1 and HDA2 drives after the reformat.
<4> I'm trying to figure out how to get my soundcard to detect/work
<5> amphi: hers doesn't :P i tried it, it said it failed making parititions and quit the recovery
<6> how do i make a configure script tell me what it's options are?
<7> Mordof: so use fdisk to delete all the partitions
<8> GTX: try playing something with flash and esd at the same time
<9> why would you makedev sda
<10> WiFiTux: where would i get GTK+
<3> Ompaul, when I run du in /, it should give me the total file size of all directories and subdirectories on the drive, right?
<6> nm
<11> indeed I will graft
<5> amphi: its not a normal windows cd, i cant use any of those

<12> !pasebin
<13> parse error: Try searching at http://ubuntu.cc.com.au/, IdleOne
<2> Frebrd: those 2 packages!
<4> I tried to type "snd-pcm-oss" in a terminal window per the instructions I found, but that step is where the process failed to work like the instructions stated
<14> _jason, I saw that but thought it was a complete dictionary like the american-english
<12> !pastebin
<5> amphi: its a horribly made cd.. and i cant find any other xp cd
<13> I guess pastebin is a site where you can post large texts and screenshots so you don't flood the channel. You can find it at http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org - Install webboard for easy pasting from the gnome taskbar :)
<15> where's the program to manage splash screens?
<2> amonkey: read the .configure file?
<7> AnsiC: /dev/sda is major 8, minor 0 FWIW
<16> garyc: seems to be linux.words you were talking about, has 45000 lines
<4> Mordof, create a boot floppy, can you do that?
<11> That works to graft
<5> tux187: inside linux?
<8> anyone know what package provides QtCore or QtGui for pkg-config?
<8> GTX: nice!
<0> amphi,
<17> _jason: i just mark volumes_visilble in gconf-editor
<4> Mordof: you ONLY have a linux machine working right now?
<7> AnsiC
<0> mknod -m 8 0 sda3
<0> ????
<2> Frebrd: sudo apt-get install python2.4-gnome2 python2.4-gtk2
<16> ricard1: yeah, put a check
<0> no
<5> tux187: well, i have windows xp on mine, but i have no floppy drive, she only has linux
<0> mknod -b 8 0 sda3
<8> GTX: you will have to change your firefox link so it always runs it via aoss, though
<5> tux187: her hard drive wasnt big enough for both, and she wanted to try linux
<15> WiFiTux: you should visit the v2000z wiki page for the laptoptesting team :D
<4> hmmm...you could make a boot CD
<5> tux187: how do i do that
<2> slavik: what is it about?
<1> Mordof have her run the live cd ....
<7> AnsiC: mknod b /dev/sda 8 0
<11> graft, my skype works now!!!
<11> I love you
<4> If there's any soundcard gurus in the channel right now, I'd like to take a number to get in line for some help/advice :)
<11> thanks
<2> slavik: you happy with the laptop?
<4> Mordof: do you have a cd burner and some burner software?
<5> iceman: live cd of ubuntu? i dont have it i dont think
<5> tux187: yeah of course
<5> tux187: nero 7
<0> root@hostname:/dev# mknod b /dev/sda 8 0
<0> mknod: invalid device type `/dev/sda'
<18> Quinc1, yes, however you will be there for a looooong time - suggest you stick to /root/* and then /media/hda1 and /media/hda2 and be aware what you have put on the screen says nothing has been copied back to that drive, from the / partition so I think you may need to cd backup/hda1 and do >>cp -R .* /media/hda1/.<<
<1> mordof, can you download and burn a cd ?
<0> or i must write
<4> mordof: and you said you don't have a working linux cd?
<0> root@hostname:/dev# mknod b /dev/sda3 8 0
<12> http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/8554 would appreciate help with this
<15> WiFiTux: pretty much
<17> _jason: i'm going to restart X
<5> iceman: my bandwidth per month is limit, so i cant download a live cd
<5> tux187: my ubuntu install cd works fine...
<15> WiFiTux: there are some quirks but I'm happy :)
<5> tux187: i just dont know how that would help
<2> slavik: for $600
<2> :)

<3> Ompaul, the command takes about ten seconds to run for me.
<8> GTX: heh np
<4> mordof: the boot cd has a partitioner to wipe the drive
<7> AnsiC: your mknod must be different than mine - it needs to be a block device, major 8 minor 0
<4> you said you wanted to wipe thedrive right?
<15> WiFiTux: yup
<15> cheapst piece of crap there is :P
<5> tux187: ohhh, yeah.. i forgot about that, i can whipe the drive but not install ubuntu?
<2> :|
<1> mordof, Did you receive ubuntu in a package... should have a live cd in it
<19> amphi : hey im back, i tried disabling the windows xp firewall, and that still didnt work, i tried searching for a guide on how to setup a connection through a windows xp computer, but i couldnt find anything
<5> iceman: i dled the ubuntu install iso
<11> graft, Yeah Thank you SO MUCH :D
<11> Something so simple
<11> but it worked
<11> amazing
<18> Quinc1, okay
<7> Mordof: or download the sysresccd.org iso and burn it - it's a reall lifesaver
<3> Ompaul, Is that suspicious?
<2> _maria: what do you want to do?
<1> Mordof you can order a set of cd's .... I always order sevral and give them away ..
<7> _maria: did you read the bot's 'fasterfirefox' factoid?
<4> My sound card is a SB 16 ESS AudioDrive
<5> amphi: sysresccd?
<15> WiFiTux: my friend got it too
<20> what kind of connection
<5> iceman: *sighs*, no time, shes bitched at me to do it today
<15> but he wanted the 6cell battery later and paid 150USD for it ...
<4> but I am lost on how to get it to detect or work in my Ubuntu environment
<1> one of these days i need to get a Mac just to install Ubuntu on it ... ;)
<18> Quinc1, yeap at several levels
<19> wifitux : i have an ubuntu computer connected to a windows xp computer which h as a cable modem , the internet works on the ubuntu computer, everything but the web
<2> slavik: cool, is a nice laptop.
<15> in any case, how do I manage/change splash screens?
<12> http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/8554 would appreciate help with this :)
<7> Mordof: yeah, a bootable linux cd for emergency maintenance, it has loads of useful tools on it
<19> amphi : no i closed the bots message after ic ouldnt open the url :\
<15> WiFiTux: and for some reason linux doesn't like my thumb drive :(
<3> Ompaul , Mind you, I've only installed Ubuntu a few days ago, so there may not be all that many files to list.
<1> Mordof, without a cd you cant do much ... unless you download a mini linux distro ..
<14> _jason, are you still there
<2> _maria: dns could be broken. put on the browser: http://72.14.207.99
<7> _maria: heh
<5> iceman: i have my ubuntu install disc.. but i dont know what you mean by a live cd
<2> _maria: linux browser
<21> hello, how can I control downloading speed in Synaptic?:)
<4> a live cd lets you run without installing irght?
<22> hello what command would i use to useradd for username malty and p***word for directory /var/www/ with proftpd sorry to say this again forgot to say some stuff while ago
<1> Mordof did you burn the cd you have ?
<5> iceman: yeah
<15> in any case, how do I manage/change splash screens?
<19> wifitux : can i use firefox?
<23> hello helpful party people... any one here know the best way to get eclipse up and running on breezy?
<2> _maria: use firefox
<19> wifitux : in firefox, it loads only the text, not the images
<1> Mordof dang, if you order the cd's you get a live boot cd in the package ...
<24> lotte4, i think you need to clarify that question - You are using "proftpd" and want to allow a user to access /var/www with it?
<4> any soundcard gurus free for some help yet? :)
<15> telepathetic: open synaptic :)
<15> and search for eclipse
<15> I forget the proper package name :P
<14> _jason, that was it. the linux.words file with 45,402 names linux will not accept as logins is in the tar
<3> Slavik, I don't know how to work that in console, but did you check under the main launcher/system/administration/login screen setup?
<14> _jason, are you still there
<1> Mordof you will have to toast the windows install or download a live cd iso and burn it
<2> _maria: well, but it does load? what are the symptoms? Do you have Symantec Internet Security in the XP?
<18> Quinc1, do it this way: sudo du -h / <<----- that will ask for a p***word your own one :)
<15> Quinc1: that's where it is?
<22> Dr_Willis i want to add a ftp user account for directory /var/www/
<15> Quinc1: ty
<7> _maria: it says: In the Navigation toolbar URL field enter about:config, Use the Filter field to change the following parameters: network.dns.disableIPv6 - Set the Value parameter to true, etwork.http.pipelining - Set the Value parameter to true, network.http.pipelining.maxrequests - Set the Value parameter to 8, & network.http.proxy.pipelining - Set the Value parameter to true.
<3> Ompaul, I ran sudo du -hs ; same thing, right, except silent.
<7> _maria: er, thats "Network.http.pipelining" ;)
<5> amphi: so with this recovery cd, i can get rid of all the partitions and make it into unparitioned space?
