<0> changing the sources list?
<1> What is the reason that Synaptic does not update Firefox from v1.07 to latest ? Ubuntu v5.1.
<2> sjbrown: change your source in /etc/apt/sources.list
<3> go to sourceforge and download tunapie and install it
<3> BoukenYellow,
<4> where do i find a list of mirrors?
<5> No, I ran sudo nautilus and copied it to /Root/Desktop/Backups/hda1 and hda2 respectively. Keep in mind that hda2 is all there. I'm not touching the hda1 and hda2 drives, though, in case I may have to resort to attempting data recovery.
<6> how can I set the env variables modify for ever ?
<7> ok just went to update manager and got a warning about software that isnt authenticated should I install?
<2> tunapie?
<8> peter__: because ubuntu makes a stable release every 6 months and then only provides security updates. Sometimes things are backported, but too many things depend on ff1.07 and would break
<2> IdleOne: are your keys up to date?
<7> heys?
<9> hi i dont know if anyone can help me, i just just just installed ubuntu for the first time, my network connection is setup to go through another windows xp machine which hosts a cable modem, the internet seems to be working, but i cant use the web? anyone have any ideas?

<2> then try again
<3> i think it is just a sudo sh ./install
<11> maria: what do you mean, 'the internet seems to be working' ?
<2> if it still complains, write to the package maintainer
<9> like i can go on irc, and the update manager works
<3> BoukenYellow, you can almost always get bull**** or daria
<12> is proFTPD the best ?
<9> just the web doesnt work at all
<6> I want to modify env variables for ever
<7> graft: suso apt-get ubuntu-keyring?
<3> you're luck if you get sinfeld\
<11> maria: how bizarre
<12> IdleOne: sudo
<3> lucky
<7> yes typos ****
<13> CanYouHelpMePlz, i wouldent use Any FTP servers - if you could get by with doing the same job with ssh.
<2> IdleOne: also apt-get install
<10> varsendagger, it's the Daria I'm after. x)
<12> Dr_Willis: but i didn't know you can copy files with ssh ?

<14> er...thanks _jason, I'll keep that in mind!
<2> CanYouHelpMePlz: man scp
<13> CanYouHelpMePlz, google for ssh tutorial/tips
<13> ssh is one of those tools that is sooo handy!
<12> oooh scp i heard of that once
<3> i am going to write a wiki once i buy a subscription
<2> heh
<11> maria: you don't have any wierd proxy settings in your browser?
<9> i didnt set up anything for the internet connection to work, it was all automatic, do i have to change anything?
<15> i need some help. when i trying to write a dvd.. a error while it creat a ISO image happens? what can i do? =p

<1> There is this TV Wonder 2.0 USB card by ATI attached to PC running Ubuntu v5.1. Is it possible to get it configured and working ?
<7> havent done update yet
<11> maria: you're on the linux box now?
<9> amphi : yes
<4> hmm.. i can't open /etc/apt/sources.list for writing
<4> must be a write lock from some other app
<16> anyone have any problems with audigy nx external USB soundcards - ubuntu just wont work with mine (found a bug report on it but no suggestions)?
<2> sjbrown: do it as root
<4> how do i find out which app has a file open?
<7> graft: ca.archive.ubuntu.com times out
<4> yeah, i'm root
<9> amphi : sometimes the webpages half load after about 1-2 minutes but then time out
<2> sjbrown: um... is it a read-only file?

<11> maria: well, internet is working, clearly - can you use a console browser like lynx?
<17> GUYS
<17> cups?
<12> graft: i don't understand the command for using scp?

<17> in dapper? how to fix it?
<9> amphi : i dont know how
<11> maria: yeah, they should load right away
<2> tomplast: what's the problem?
<4> rw-r--r--
<17> graft: it doesnt answers :/
<11> maria: open a terminal and do lynx http://google.com/ or something
<17> graft: the cups system or whatever its called
<9> ok
<17> graft: im reinstalling it but i doubt it will work
<4> so i should be able to write to it.
<2> CanYouHelpMePlz: it's just like cp
<4> i'm thinking another program has a write lock on it
<12> graft: ??
<2> CanYouHelpMePlz: cp <file> <destination>
<13> google scp examples
<17> graft:
<17> Unable to retrieve the printer list. Error message received from manager:
<17> Connection to CUPS server failed. Check that the CUPS server is correctly installed and running. Error: host not found.
<12> graft: ahh
<11> maria: I've been behind an xp machine before, and it is noticeably slow, but it shouldn't time out like that
<2> except you can prepend location with <host>:<file>, etc.
<9> amphi : bash: lynx: command not found
<9> :\
<18> wine is not installing
<18> not sure what i am doing wrong
<2> tomplast: so... is cups running?
<5> {wonders if he chased ompaul away}
<15> .....
<11> maria: oh, well - but if the pages are partially loading, the browser settings are probably ok
<12> graft: thanks
<15> : (
<11> maria: you can't hook the linux box to the internet connection, and put the windows box behind it?
<2> sjbrown: just force a write
<17> graft: only cupsd
<11> maria: that works a lot better, needless to say ;)
<9> amphi : could it be the network cable? no i cant :(
<2> tomplast: yeah good enough... what are you getting that error message from?
<19> ompaul is here but he sees >> Quinch has quit ("Download Gaim: http://gaim.sourceforge.net/";)
<20> Hello im about to install ubuntu
<19> Quinch, hda1 and hda2 are essentially blank, there is no data there, when you copied data to your Linux box where did you copy it too? /home/username/some_random_directory?
<7> graft: Could not connect to ca.archive.ubuntu.com:80 (206.75.218.52), connection timed out
<20> I habe one question
<19> Quinch, that message is over 10 minutes old
<21> Hi all, I'm trying to use Webmin, but it doesn't accept my username and p***word, can anyone tell me what to type/how to change the settings?
<2> IdleOne: change your source, man
<5> No, I ran sudo nautilus and copied it to /Root/Desktop/Backups/hda1 and hda2 respectively. Keep in mind that hda2 is all there. I'm not touching the hda1 and hda2 drives, though, in case I may have to resort to attempting data recovery.
<20> Do i download drake or breezy
<17> graft: from KControl what i goto printers
<8> maria: did you try disabling ipv6?
<21> God_hollywood: Breezy.
<11> maria: could be - did you make it yourself?
<1> _jason -- Can it be said that Firefox v1.5 is not compatible with Ubuntu v5.1 ?
<13> God_hollywood, stick with Breezy for now
<21> God_hollywood: Drake will be ready in April.
<5> Doh. Forgot to write your name, that's why you missed it. Sorry.
<17> drake runs almost perfectly ;)
<9> _jason : no i didnt
<8> peter__: you can install it, just not with the package manager.
<8> ubotu: tell maria about fasterfirefox
<13> tomplast, ive gotten no issues so far.. this week.. :P
<9> maria : i didnt make it myself, but someone else did
<5> Ompaul: No, I ran sudo nautilus and copied it to /Root/Desktop/Backups/hda1 and hda2 respectively. Keep in mind that hda2 is all there. I'm not touching the hda1 and hda2 drives, though, in case I may have to resort to attempting data recovery.
<3> what is the mose inovative wm?
<22> Seveas - back to my abortive glabels backport question. The reason I was trying to do this in the first place is a bug in glabels due to a bug introduced in libgnomeui 2.12. The glabels developer says he's built a workaround into the latest version (2.0.4); I just found that out. I'll try to compile that under Breezy instead.
<19> Quinch, when you are talking to me please prepend my name to the comment - my little client hightlights this
<23> Hey, there is a file somewhere, which is used to determine which drives are mounted during boot, and which permissions should apply to them. However I forgot the path of that file. Can anyone enlighten me?
<13> varsendagger, how vague. :P
<5> Right, right, I forgot about that. Not really at home with IRC.
<13> AskHL, /etc/fstab
<2> tomplast: do you have cupsys-client installed?
<5> Ompaul: Right, right, I forgot about that. Not really at home with IRC.
<23> Thanks, Dr_Willis !
<17> graft: doesn't it come with dapper drake?
