<0> the gladiator i believe i found the solution.........there isnt one....... there is only one driver for my video card that will work in linux properly by ati and the support is obviously not built in for xv
<1> Hi, how can i make an "init" script when fluxbox loads? i want to run some cmds..
<1> oh, sorry.
<2> Jellybob, have I installed apache only ? i was trying to install a software to create message bords/forums
<2> Jellybob, what you said is correct but I think this is not what i thought phpgrouware wud do
<3> theFR34K: sorry nope
<4> Jellybob, thanks
<2> how can I create a fowatre to install something like a forum ? website forum ?
<5> thegladiator: Try phpBB or fudForum
<6> I'd like to install the ralink 2500 drivers for my laptop, which depends on the linux-kernel-headers. However I installed that package, but it terminates with this directory is not found: /lib/modules/2.6.10-386/build. In debian I could specify the kernel header version. and the drivers worked fine, what can I do to have it work on ubuntu?
<5> thegladiator: phpBB is packaged, so it should just be an apt-get install
<7> i installed the quake4 demo and it goes slideshow-fast. what gives? quake3 works great
<2> Jellybob, thanks I am trying fudforum first
<8> w
<6> Is it possible to specify a kernel header version with apt-get?
<5> pinkisntwell: You're computer's not up to it?

<9> Znh: its alot easier to use synaptic for kernel and kernel headers
<5> Quake 4 is a lot more detailed then Quake 3 ;)
<3> theFR34K: try https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BootHotPlugErrors not sure if that will help
<8> pinkisntwell, q4 is much more demanding
<7> Jellybob yes but I have a 6600GT and the game goes horribly slow, it's like 3 fps
<8> it's the same for me (laptop with geforce2go :-)
<7> plus the sound is garbled
<8> pinkisntwell, that's odd. Same driver, settings, etc?
<6> gnomefreak: lol, dude. should be possible with apt-get as well
<6> gnomefreak: what packages for the kernel headers are availible?
<10> hello :-)
<10> anyone there?
<3> everyone is here
<6> but they cant help you lol :p
<11> pinkisntwell, havent installed the nvidia drivers have you?
<7> Toma- I have
<11> pinkisntwell, run "glxinfo" for me and see if it says something about nvidia. remember, dont paste in here.
<12> ah wtf
<12> i have 2 jfs partitions. i have a functional debian installation on one. i install etch to the other. on reboot, the preexisting grub installation on the first debian is unable to read the jfs partition's files. i erase the 2nd partiton, reformat with jfs, and untar my nifty backup of the virgin install. grub works fine. i update my new debian partition and reboot. grub can't read the new installation's files. grub error2
<12> : Bad file or directory type. i have also seen this behavior with two ext3 partitions.
<12> i meant ubuntu... yeah, that's it
<12> \clues?
<13> do you actually rebuild the grub entry in the boot sector?
<12> no. just using the menu and then the command line, on reboot.
<14> is there a searchable version of the ubuntu list archives somewhere?
<7> Toma- nvidia drivers are installed fine
<11> pinkisntwell, ok... are you runngin quake from a terminal?
<15> i need to disable hotplug, every time i try to boot the system crashes when loading hotplugs
<7> Toma- yes
<7> quake4demo
<12> !quake4 bork
<16> jetscreamer: Do they come in packets of five. Try searching at http://ubuntu.cc.com.au/
<13> jetscreamer, this may be obvious, but, are you sure grub supports jfs? I'm not
<12> you STUPID bot
<12> yango yes
<11> pinkisntwell, any issues there when its loading the video stuff?
<12> i boot jfs on both
<12> pink hang on i know
<7> Toma- what do you mean loading the video stuff?
<7> quake3 runs 100%
<11> ARGH. i have a live looking gl*** cd downloading but no pc to run it on :(
<12> [08.59.59] <dpkg> hmm... quake4 bork is for quake4(and d3 i'd guess) libsdl1.2debian-all_1.2.9-0.1_i386.deb vs libsdl1.2debian-alsa_1.2.9-0.1_i386.deb . all bad, alsa good. see updated versions also.
<12> !find libsdk1.2debian
<12> shhh
<12> !find libsdl1.2debian
<7> jetscreamer i've got all!
<11> pinkisntwell, look thru the output in the terminal for video or glx
<17> got several issues with ubuntu if anyone wants to give me some advice
<18> me too
<7> jetscreamer i should install alsa and it'll work fine?
<19> what's "intall in oem mode" in dapper flight cd 3 ?
<9> !anyone
<16> probably 90% of the first questions asked in this channel start with "Does anyone/anybody..." Why not ask your next question (the real one) and find out? <hint>
<12> pink it's that sdl file
<16> Ubuntu Package/File/Desc Search of 'libsdk1.2debian' returned no results.
<14> hendersonb: if you get someone to help you, lemme know 'cuz i've tried to get some help here as well ;-)
<12> those 2 versions. the -all, which is installed by default, borks it out.
<7> jetscreamer thanks a lot, but i do remember that when i was running alsa i could get no esd output and that's why i switched
<11> visik7, dapper isnt supported here.... OEM means install, stop asking me. VERY dangerous if you have stuff you want to keep on the pc.
<12> apt-get install libsdl1.2debian-alsa-whatever
<3> hendersonb: ask your question and if someone can help they will

<12> it's that one lib.
<15> i need someone to help me thru disabling hotplug
<13> jetscreamer: This error is returned if a file requested is not a regular file, but something like a symbolic link, directory, or FIFO.
<12> Yango: it cannot read any files on the new installation. not one.
<17> ok - here goes Q1 - I'm using ubuntu with i386 kernel - If i install the i686-smp kernel (I have a P4 3GHz with hyper threading) my wifi card no longer works (ar51212 a netgear 108Mb card)
<12> using the command line.
<7> jetscreamer i've got the "all" libsdl but quake4 is running, albeit slowly. is it supposed to not load at all if i've got the all version?
<19> why dapper download things ?
<3> !tell hendersonb about wifi
<12> pinkisntwell: no mine did not load at all with the -all version
<11> visik7, updates. AGAIN, dapper isnt supported here.
<7> jetscreamer so it's probably something else
<12> worked fine with the -alsa version.
<12> yeah you're using oss
<12> :)
<13> jetscreamer: well, that's what error 2 means, so maybe, for some reason grub is seeing the whole jfs partition as 'not regular'
<12> but oh well
<17> IdleOne, I've read that - doen't help me any
<18> Here's my problem .. its something i have got with mandrake and ubuntu. I am a linux n00b and everytime i install a distro, in few days i end up with the same situation: first, i cannot open terminal. After that, i cannot open any applications and soon it wont start X on its own, i have to start it from the command line. After that, i cannot log in anymore and i end up uninstalling linux. It seems like the system slowly deteriorates a
<18> nd i dont even do anything. What am i doing wrong?
<9> visik7: dapper should only be used by people that know what they are doing and can fix it (dapper is in testing stages and will not be released for public use until april 20 2006
<12> it detects the jfs partition though. and can read it well if i erase and untar the backup.
<12> erase it and ...
<20> Hi !
<11> kwatz_, dont use root?
<18> hmm?
<13> jetscreamer then I don't know what the heck is happening :)
<18> oh, oh.
<11> kwatz_, are you overusing su and sudo?
<20> anybody has installed debian at IBM Thinkpad T30?
<18> i guess i did put this system to log in as root all the time
<18> silly me.
<11> kwatz_, there you go.
<18> i'll check.
<12> Yango: me neither
<9> Deb_Man: this is not debian support channel
<19> gnomefreak: what make you thinking that I'm not able to use it ?
<9> visik7: by what you are asking :)
<17> ok i'll try another problem Q2 - when I try and do sudo/gksudo gedit i get the error as described here http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-77283.html - anyone know a fix?
<19> I'm just asking why the installer download things that are on the cd
<11> anyone know a decent dd setting to burn an iso?
<20> sorry
<9> visik7: the installers job is to install things
<19> -.-
<12> thanks though dude
<9> visik7: it doesnt download anything until after everything is copied
<19> ok nevermind I've firewalled the dapper machine and now it take stuff from the cd
<21> Is it just me or is freenode acting up ?
<22> hendersonb: is this the user you created during install?
<13> jetscreamer, just in case, (and if you hadn't found it before :) ) check http://www.linuxselfhelp.com/gnu/grub/html_chapter/grub_toc.html
<9> LinuxJones: im not having issues with it :(
<17> jason - yes
<21> gnomefreak: ok tks
<9> yw
<9> LinuxJones: what is it doing?
<19> gnomefreak: doesn't seems like this, my router says that dapper machine is trying to download things
<17> sorry _jason - yes it is
<19> btw it's not important
<11> dd if=bootable.iso of=/dev/cdrom ....will this work?
<23> is there any good linux crm desktop applications out there ( customer relationshiop management)???
<11> or do i need a bs= value?
<22> hendersonb: first, you should launch gui apps with 'gksudo', but your sudo probably doesn't work anyway. Try 'sudo echo hi' and then paste the output of the command 'groups'
<19> Toma-: no
<19> Toma-: u can't
<19> Toma-: u need to use an app like cdrecord
<11> oh?
<19> u can't write to /dev/cdrom
<9> visik7: yes after everything is copied to disk during install you have 3 parts to installing it base than another than it uses the mirrors to grab extra stuff and configure it
<11> mmm rightio
<23> is there any good linux crm desktop applications out there ( customer relationshiop management)???
<19> gnomefreak: yes but it start to download before the first steps
<13> is there any good linux crm applications out there ( customer relationshiop management)???
