<14> guys, when i go to terminal and run "nautilus" nothing happens. Nothing happens too when I click "nautilus" in my menu. I've tried this several times. "System Monitor" shows 5 instances of Nautilus, all sleeping. What's going on?
<14> one instance was a zombie
<14> I selected them all and clicked "End Process". That worked things out.
<14> thank you.
<4> i get wlipnds driver present, hardware present
<4> but it still doesnt recognize it
<15> how do I update firefox in ubuntu?
<16> tenchan: No idea how xfce works, but in gnome it should probably just appear. To mount it manually, type "dmesg |tail" just after you plug in the drive. Somewhere that should tell you the mount point, probably /dev/sda1, or sth like that. Then try "mount /dev/sda1 /mnt" substituting /dev/sda1 with whatever you got from dmesg, and /mnt with wherever you want to mount it.
<15> anyone? :(
<15> well I guess everyone is asleep at this hour
<0> no

<21> hi, does laptop running with pentium2 500mhz is too slow forAzureus 2.3.0.6 RAM is 384mb - Breezy with Gnome
<21> thanks
<22> err, pentium III/500?
<22> I don't know of any pentium II/500s
<21> yups
<21> sorry pentium 3
<22> it should be fine, though the RAM will be the primary limiting factor
<23> flyingfox: yeah, azureus will hog memory, use something else.
<21> as my laptop when running Azureus is so slow

<23> flyingfox: use gnome-bittorrent, rtorrent or bittornado
<21> used same Azureus on desktop with AMD Athlon 1.2ghz with 192mb memory is ok
<21> as i did an install using deb binaries with Azureus on laptop
<21> the AMD case is with apt-get under Hoary
<21> how come Breezy is can't apt-get Azureus
<24> anyone know a current distro, that runs from a win 98 dos partition, a distro that will support newer hardware ..
<21> i have the latest sources.list from Ubuntu list generator
<25> Azureus uses Java. Java tends to be slow on all machines, so you really should focus on non-Java apps for an older machine, fox. It's your choice. If you insist on using it, as far as breezy, check that your repository list is complete. I'm not sure it's in there though, but you might try getting it from the hoary repos and seeing if that works.
<25> That's not necessarily good advice though, I'll warn you.
<21> i think deb binaries is slowing my laptop down
<25> Doing what robotgeek suggested is much wiser.
<21> as it is not compiled from with my kernel headers
<25> Using any binaries not from ubuntu on ubuntu is probably also going to hurt performance.
<21> under 192mb Athlon 1.2 i did an apt-get for Azureus under Hoary, end up: Azureus is running fine
<26> use automatix for azureaus
<26> dont yah
<25> Athlon 1.2 is MUCH faster (twice as fast) as a pentium II
<23> !automatix
<9> automatix is unsafe, it overwrites configuration files, and does things like "echo -e 'ynYn'" that are considered risky. Please do not use it. There are alternative applications, but it's often best to read the documentation.
<27> flyingfox: depending on how old your AMD chip is, there is a k7 kernel for Ubuntu
<26> lol
<21> a check on azureus webpage, reveals only deb binaries and rpms available
<26> dont listen to that guy
<23> hmm, FaBZ all that is true, unfortunately
<26> automatix is grt... but if ur a ***** and wine all the time about things like that dont use
<26> it
<23> FaBZ: please mind the coc too
<21> that's why i said: is it my pentium 3 500mhz slowing my laptop down
<25> FaBZ, stop trolling.
<26> wateva
<26> u think im doin
<26> im not
<21> how come the Breezy team does not make Azureus available for apt-get
<25> fox, most likely the processor speed is the problem
<26> i just pointin out that unless ur paranoid about ur system.. go ahead and use it
<21> Dtragcoen> thanks
<28> hikenboot, there is something like babylon translator on ubuntu ?
<25> fox, I'd try it from the hoary binaries instead of deb. I don't know why it isn't in breezy.
<23> flyingfox: azureus at that time did not run without non-free java (sun). now it does, so it will be in dapper, i think
<29> where is the config file for wine?
<25> I'm using the dapper development repositories.
<29> it isnt where it used to be in older version
<23> !azureus
<9> it has been said that azureus is a popular bittorent client written in Java, installation instructions can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AzureusHowTo
<21> it only says using deb binaries
<21> i have done that and my laptop is so slow when running Azureus
<24> i'd like to build a linux distro, that will run from dos / win98 ... but support newer hardware ...
<25> Syco, I'm not sure, but you can run winecfg to do configuration.
<26> syco: just config it normally winecfg
<27> flyingfox: because it's running all of Java, too, probably - the JRE isn't fast or lightweight
<21> anyone knows the url for dapper development, thks
<26> 'winecfg' in terminal
<30> does every1 here use ubuntu?
<26> yes
<26> :D
<31> seb32: no
<21> Madpilot> thanks
<30> im running linux 4 the 1st time
<26> lol
<25> seb. Most do, Some of us use other OSes in tendem.
<30> im on a live CD
<26> how sit goin
<30> whats the best distrib?
<32> does anyone in here know much about kbfx?
<26> ubuntu
<32> need some help with that program
<0> 32bit
<31> seb32: that question has caused wars and should not be asked :)
<25> seb: That's a very personaly thing, different people like different distros and some use them for different things.
<23> brydenn: tried it once, was kinda painful to use
<26> nah ubuntu is the best
<0> like for firewall i use ipcop
<25> seb: I do think ubuntu is good for learning linux, and has a very newbie friendly atmosphere.
<26> yes
