<0> unkn0wn2u: nothing
<1> eternaljoy: though shred also seems what you want. i'm looking for a comparison of the two right now, though their names are unfortunately quite a bit generic
<2> with apt-get itll be easy to uninstall
<3> pckg manager uses apt-get
<2> yea but uh
<2> thats not how i did it
<4> stephelton, I get sox a universal sound sample translator
<2> so i cant recommend it
<5> Mordof: you should have access to java anyway since it is in PLF, search for j2re
<6> LjL: how do you tell wipe to wipe 7 times?
<3> _jason, yeah i have it selected in the pckg manager, im just wondering why its not a good idea to do it that way
<1> eternaljoy: no idea. why do you need exactly 7 times?
<6> LjL: E: Couldn't find package shred
<7> what patch are you talking about it if there ever was one there should be one in the repositories..
<6> LjL: ok 8 times then :)
<2> all i did was download the self extacting file from here http://java.com/en/download/linux_manual.jsp made it executable then in terminal typed ./javafile.bin

<2> and it installed
<1> eternaljoy: indeed, there is no shred package. it's in coreutils, try just typing "shred"
<0> unkn0wn2u: i get nothing... i do apt-cache pkgnames | grep sox and it returns "sox" though
<5> Mordof: it's perfectly fine to do it that way. whiter`'s way is not a good idea
<8> man i wish ubuntu would take a hint from Suse on the superb quality of its documentation
<8> instead of a million ubuntu forks
<3> _jason, heh, ok. continuing on with the pckg manager... sorry whiter`, jason has helped me out alot before.. i listen to what he says
<2> _jason the way i did it, it has an uninstaller also
<8> why doent we start an official ubuntu documentation project?
<5> glick: #ubuntu-doc
<6> LjL: yes shred is there! by default it wipes 25 times
<1> eternaljoy: the -Q <n> option of wipe seems like what you want
<6> thanks
<3> glick, ill help!
<6> LjL: thats ok! shred does 25 times by default
<3> i can make pretty good websites, lol
<8> i mean we model SuSe's documentation
<4> I freakin told ya shred was there
<3> i can do that.. :)
<4> damn
<8> Mordof, have you ever looked at Suse's guides?
<1> eternaljoy: the default for -Q in wipe is just 4, but it appears that every p*** really involves a number of overwritings with various patterns (some random, some not)
<3> glick, never even heard of em
<9> how do I install xmms mp3 support?
<1> eternaljoy: so if i'm reading this well, wipe does 34*4 wipes
<5> whiter`: your way installs it, I'm just saying that the package manager won't manage the files
<3> nor have i seen SuSe :P
<8> Mordof, ill show you holdup
<3> glick, k
<0> mattwestm: "apt-get install xmms" should do it
<6> LjL: ok
<1> eternaljoy: but i guess that what really makes the difference is the algorithm used for changing bits
<6> LjL: but thats ok! shred does 25 times by default
<6> LjL: Ill use shred
<8> Mordof, http://en.opensuse.org/Documentation
<8> Mordof, check out the SuSE Administrators' guide
<6> LjL: see ya
<1> eternaljoy: i don't think that means much. if it just writes (say) "zero" bytes 25 times, that'll be completely useless
<2> real men dont use package managers
<8> and the users guide
<2> :P
<8> thats how ubuntu documentation shouild be
<2> well, movie time
<2> bbl
<0> glick: give it a rest
<8> they have developer documentation
<3> _jason, as long as it works, im not picky
<10> could anyone help me with my gnome theme? i've installed kubuntu-desktop, and now whenever i try to login using the gnome theme it doesnt work, startup-bar keeps crashing
<11> whiter`: people who don't like package managers don't use debian-derived distros
<3> :)
<8> stephelton, no i wont, cause software *needs* good documentation if you want alot of people to use it
<3> i love this distro specifically because of its package manager
<0> glick: then go write some
<12> qui veux nous rejoint sur #vossey ?
<5> Mordof: did you find the j2re when you searched?
<5> !fr
<13> Va a #ubuntu-fr ou #kubuntu-fr pour aide et discussion en francais
<3> its the main reason i told my sister to use it
<11> dst20_: !fr
<8> stephelton, not alone, it needs to become a ubuntu sponsored project
<12> oui fr

<3> _jason, yeah j2re is already installed ;)
<5> Mordof: ah ok
<0> glick: maybe the solution is to use a better distro =P
<3> glick, yeah i could pull off something liek that
<5> glick: that definitely sounds like something you can work with the doc team on
<14> Can anyone help me get PHP working?
<15> Doesn't Ubuntu have a SAMBA configuration tool like Fedora?

<12> amphi toi tu ne veux pas
<3> rip, why 4?

<5> ubotu: tell rip about lamp
<14> I followed the wiki entry, but whenever I try to execute the testphp.php file it tries to download it instead of executing the page
<14> phpMyAdmin also does not work
<15> rip: it's an Apache configuration
<16> I had a Firefox window open playing an audio stream with the mplayer plugin, and now none of my sounds work at all, unless they're from that same plugin. (MPlayer alone won't even work.) (Gnome, ESD) Can I get my sound back without logging out?
<17> hey, anyone here? I need a little tech support :D
<5> rip: the ``apache configuration'' section, did your remember to restart apache afterwards?
<3> rip, if it tries to download it, its taking the php page request wrong, and taking it as a file, not a page... you need to configure how apache handles .php extentions
<18> How do I change my resolution to widescreen? I only have one resolution to choose from in the GUI.
<17> I'm trying to create a new folder and it not letting me. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

<14> I have restarted apached, and rebooted. Mordof: any idea what I need to reconfigure?
<5> jie: where are you trying to create it and what error do you get?
<19> ogra: May I ask what Via C3 CPU you have? Notably what MHz? Mine is 600MHz but "cat /proc/cpuinfo" says 400MHz. Maybe something it is running at 66 instead of 100 FSB. I'd appreciate if you could take a look.
<15> I'm having problems with SAMBA, I have shared a folder and now it asks for a username and a p***word to access it, I type mine but it does not work. Do you know how can I fix it?

<11> _nemesis_: dunno - it's on the sysresccd.org iso FWIW
<15> amphi: doesn't ubuntu have a samba configuration tool like fedora?
<21> ubotu: floppy
