Comments:

<0> I tried linmodems. Mine is not supported.
<1> urox, but the problem isn't ubuntu related so I doubt it.
<2> use real hardware for gnu/linux, soft-hardwares are blunt
<3> chuckyp: I did wget -c ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/pool/main/w/w32codecs/w32codecs_20050412-0.0_i386.deb
<4> How do I "enable synaptics touchpas support when configuring the kernel (CONFIG_MOUSE_PS2)" ?
<3> chuckyp: And its getting downloaded
<2> sorry, magnus_1986 we can do nothing about that, unless you know the hardware blueprint...
<5> we dont support <insert os other than ubuntu here> :)
<6> magnus_1986, *shrugs* Maybe sometime in the future....but not now
<7> grout58, yeah ow....sorry i mean.. /dev/hda1 was an example
<4> touchpad*
<0> thank you people. You guys are more helpful than I thought, no really.
<1> gopi, just follow the codecs section it looks like you don't have the codecs for whatever your card is capturing in.
<3> chuckyp: But mine is AMD64 system and using Ubuntu for AMD64 systems !
<8> why not: sudo aptitude install w32codecs ?

<6> gnomefreak, I don't see anyone who's asking for another OS...?
<1> gopi, hrm....
<5> ubotu tell DoTheRodeo about w32codecs
<6> gnomefreak, Or distro for that matter ;)
<8> gnomefreak?
<8> lol
<5> DoTheRodeo: ?
<8> im trying to help gopi
<1> grout58, What is your ultimate goal here? I'm taking it you are dualbooting?
<9> tell gnomefreak it wasnt asking how to use another os, it was 'it worked in <other os> but not here
<8> what are you talkin about?
<5> oh sorry
<3> chuckyp: but why is it mentioned in that page as....... w32 codecs package ?
<1> gopi, windows 32
<3> chuckyp: Because its not windows right ?
<10> elkbuntu: bah, we should just ignore beavers like that ;)
<5> DoTheRodeo: you asked why not use aptitude you should really type the name of person you are helping
<2> you can get w32codecs from xinehq.de or Seveas repos
<8> yeah
<9> Pygi, that would be fine, except his enter-for-punctuation habit sped the channel up two notches ;)
<3> chuckyp: No but why is w32 needed ??
<11> anyone else here had trouble since the azureus GTK swing update ?
<6> gopi, To play mp3s, avi, etc etc.
<12> aw crap
<10> !enter
<13> please don't use the "enter" key as punctuation! It spams the channel and is annoying. Write in complete sentences and keep your replies and questions on one line if possible. Thanks!
<12> I just found a bug in wget
<12> Length: -1,466,335,232 [text/plain]
<1> gopi, for wmv wma all that stuff if you would just tell me what kind of capture card you have you can just install the codec for that.
<14> I'm reading a post on the forums about someone wanting to 'downgrade' from dapper to breezy...is this possible?
<12> 02:30:22 (0.00 B/s) - `GKDVD-4.0.2-0.3-EN.iso' saved [0/-1466335232])
<1> gopi, but you didn't. So i just sentyou there to install them all.
<4> How do I "enable synaptics touchpad support when configuring the kernel (CONFIG_MOUSE_PS2)" ?
<5> Micksa: please use pastebin to paste
<15> whats the command to unmount?
<0> Whats 'yum' and is it related to ubuntu?
<14> They seem to want to just change their sources.list from dapper to breezy sources...I just have my doubts about this as a method :)
<12> hey, that was only 2 lines :P
<3> chuckyp: ok mine is Pinnacle PCTV card and I already installed bttv drivers !
<1> grout58, umount
<2> Micksa, it's not a bug... really... that's caused by file more than 4Gig
<16> hi there, is it possible to install the live cd on to my pc?
<7> grout58, umount /device/to/unmount
<2> more to filesystem error, not wget
<1> gopi, does it capture mpeg2 or rtjpeg?
<5> magnus_1986: its the package manager for redhat and has nothing to do with ubuntu
<12> shoould not wget be able to handle those?
<17> grout58: sudo umount /dev/xxx
<0> oh thanks, gnomefreak'
<12> I mean, web servers can hold them (apparently), my filesystem can hold them
<3> chuckyp: no idea but Iam able to play xawtv successfully
<5> magnus_1986: yw
<18> Hello
<16> anyone?
<2> no... i think there is a wget release with >4gig file size support out there...
<19> Anyone know when dapper flight 5 was released?
<9> ubotu tell micksa about launchpad
<18> why does Shift+Backspace restart my X server all of a sudden?
<17> steven_: nope - to install, you need the install cd
<7> Anyone of you knows why ubuntu hasn't got a root user standard?

<5> MrRio: this past week iirc
<1> gopi, okay then what is the problem another app isn't playing video?
<16> Frogzoo: thanks mate
<6> das_cookie, Tis a shortcut to do so ;)
<1> gopi, but xawtv is?
<3> chuckyp: thats what Iam wondering ...
<10> elkbuntu: ubotu is breaking his/her own rule about enter ;)
<14> goestin because it uses sudo
<3> chuckyp: yeah xawtv is playing
<18> jonolson, its a bad shortcut to do so, any way to change it?
<7> mustard5, yes i know.. but why?
<9> pygi hmm?
<1> gopi, then you need to find out what movie player xawtv is using vs. zapper tv or whatever other app you are trying to get working.
<14> goestin: because its deemed to be a safer way of doing things
<18> I restarted the x server 4 times in 2 minutes trying to type a paragraph
<3> chuckyp: xawtv is using bttv drivers
<1> das_cookie, ctrl+alt+backspace shoudl do it.
<10> elkbuntu: well, once you type "!enter", ubuntu breaks his/her own rules, and use enter as punctuation, with several lines, while the bot itself suggests one ;)
<6> das_cookie, I know there is a way, I just don't ... know it myself. Ask around here.
<3> chuckyp: And I guess Zapper tv is also using same right ?
<20> das_cookie: Ctrl+Alt+Backspace restarts the X server
<18> I dont want to restart my x server though
<18> I already know how
<7> well... of for a smoke
<18> but why does shift+backspace do it?
<6> mgedmin, He wants to get rid of the shortcut.
<20> I've done that a few times by accident while trying to use Ctrl+Backspace to delete a word
<20> it is possible to disable this shortcut
<6> mgedmin, He wants to know how, I don't know how ;) I just know it's possible.
<9> Pygi, there could be a line length limiter somewhere
<18> I tried looking in xorg.conf to see
<1> gopi, yes but they are both using movie players like totem or xine or whatever to play the video and audio. Thats the difference and whatever player that is may need to be changed in tha tapplication. I'm sure someone whom actually uses zapper might be able to help better. Liek their forums etc... I'm sureyou are not the first with this problem.
<20> its an option in xorg.conf
<18> hmnm, I see.
<10> elkbuntu: that would be perfect if...
<20> das_cookie: try man xorg.conf
<3> chuckyp: Actually I tried TVtime Television viewer ans same problem like this..... no video but audio alone !
<20> das_cookie: Option "DontZap" "boolean"
<1> gopi, like go to their website i'm sure they have documentation like I say each app could be using a different movie player and whatever movie player they are using is having issues with the codec.
<14> gopi: do you have 'sound server' enabled in your sound preferences?
<18> what section does that go in?
<1> mustard5, its not that.
<14> chuckyp: you checked that already?
<15> hey linux can write to fat32 right?
<1> mustard5, he has no video he is missing codecs for whatever movie player zapper and tvtime are using.
<3> chuckyp: ok chuckyp I will try that !
<1> grout58, yes
<14> chuckyp: ah ok
<3> mustard5: No idea
<17> grout58: indeed - mount as fs 'vfat'
<1> grout58, if you can convert your xp partition to fat32 in WINDOWS then you could write to it.
<15> anyway linux can convert to fat32?
<14> gopi: ignore what I said..I thought you were watching TV ...but your playing movie files it seems
<17> grout58: no - do it from windows
<1> gopi, i'm sure if you go to zapper or tvtimes site they have an faq with audio but no video problems.
<3> mustard5: ok
<15> i dont have windows :P
<18> mgedmin: what section would that go in xorg.conf?
<15> well installed on this machine anyway
<1> mustard5, no he is watching tv. atleast I thought he was but the stream from the card is just like amvoie.
<18> keyboard?
<1> grout58, well then how is there an ntfs partition or better yet why?
<14> chuckyp: ok..I'm just thinking about how I got my xawtv to work with that problem
<21> im thinking of shrinking my laptop's ntfs partition using partition magic to make room for ubuntu, any success stories doing this?
<14> chuckyp: when there is a conflict with sound..I get no picture...just sound
<1> mustard5, yeah but he is lacking video not audio.
<1> mustard5, thats goofy
<14> chuckyp: thats what happens though :)
<1> gopi, yeah i dunno try that then. Sorry mustard.
<5> cvtboudreaux: ubuntus partitioner will do that too
<2> gparted does well...
<4> Did Italy beat Wales?
<14> gopi: I'd like to try my idea if your keen
