<10> troy_s: probably, we've got alot of admins, i just happen 2 be the the novice on linux
<15> anyone here use facebook?
<12> mysta: even so, you should have been able to correct it via the cli in ssh. but at least you are up again.
<16> navreet: why?
<15> when I try to add photos (which uses firefox), firefox crashes
<8> Fizzeh, anything that looks like a network/ethernet adapter
<15> amd64... used to use sun's jre
<15> not sure which jre to use
<12> navreet: there is no java plugin for amd64
<15> amd64 install was a bad idea IMO =[, flash doesn't work, stuff crashes :(
<16> navreet: facebook doesn't use java, so that's irrelevant.
<10> troy_s: im not sure why, but I would like to know. this forum post states that there is no way to run sudo commands after doing such a thing
<12> navreet: you will need to go to 32bit mode via !flash64 route
<15> apokryphos, it uses java
<12> navreet: amd64 rocks. fast. solid. stable.
<16> navreet: for adding photos? Erm...
<17> navreet: Yeh, for desktop use, pick i386 even on an amd64.
<15> what's via !flash64
<12> mysta: sounds ill informed. were you not able to flip it back to the orignal name via that sudo command?
<17> navreet: most stuff inn fact runs _faster_ that way.
<15> troy_s, ya ya... I interned at AMD in 2004
<5> codeyman and seveas: 0000:02:09.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4303 802.11b Wireless LAN Controller (rev 01)
<12> ubotu, tell navreet about flash64
<10> troy_s: nope i couldnt run ANY sudo commands
<8> ah, broadcrap
<12> mysta: eek... yes that sound horrific!
<18> i have compiled my own custom kernel and now I am trying to install the nvidia drivers from albertomilone.eu/ubuntu/nvidia/scripts/envy_8762_64. the problem is that the installerscript says it cannot find the kernel headers. A strange thing is that to me, it seems as the kernel-headers is there in the /usr/src ???
<8> Fizzeh, I missed the beginning, are you on dapper or breezy?
<5> seveas: its old - its whats been there for 4 years maybe
<12> mysta: did you logout and log back in ?
<10> troy_s: yes, i attempted that as well
<5> seveas: I think breezy
<19> hya all
<12> mysta: sounds awful for certain.
<20> kallei, the kernel headers might have to be in usr/src/linux
<20> I might be wrong though
<8> Fizzeh, what's the content of /etc/issue?
<21> cafuego, mind if I message you?
<3> bye
<12> kallei: you need a sym link to your /usr/src/blahheaders from /usr/src/linux
<18> i have a symbolic link also
<5> permission denied, does sudo work on linux (im a mac user)
<10> i have another small issue if you'd like to take a stab @ it, it has to deal w/ a CDROM not being able to be browsed.....
<17> ompaul: Only if saying "yes" would not stop you ;-)
<15> Fizzeh, sudo works on linux
<12> kallei: /usr/src/linux MUSt point to your currently running / compiled kernel.
<19> hey folks - anybody here as can help me? I just need to get the permissions right so as I can access my ntfs drive
<8> Fizzeh, it's a file, not a command
<5> should I do cat?
<21> cafuego, hmmm tough call
<8> just open it in a text editor
<16> Bruva: FAQ
<8> or with cat
<12> kallei: if you do that, all is well. if all is not well, you have not done that.
<22> Hello world.
<5> Urbuntu 6.06 LTS \n \l (but its not an l) - codeyman and seveas
<23> How can I kill a window where the close X no longer works, and it does not show up in ps -all, or in the top command. (falconseye locked up)
<22> I am trying to configure my wireless internet, and I can't seem to figure it out.
<8> Fizzeh, then you're on dapper, good
<5> ok
<22> I have a intel 2950abg (which uses that 2200's driver), and it is installed.
<8> Fizzeh, go to ubuntu.cafuego.net and download the broadcom firmware package
<24> how will know the version of my ubuntu. in the terminal
<8> Fizzeh, and install it
