<0> not the p***, the way to change it
<1> IdleOne, Your Linux box sees the windows machine. but no shares? - there are shares on the box correct?
<2> sudo -s
<3> trappist: ok I will give a shot to that
<4> Stirm: sudo pico -w /boot/grub/menu.lst ... but you don't sound experienced enough to do that... you have to make sure you don't break anything.
<1> IdleOne, could try going th other way. see if the xp box can see any linux shares
<5> I shared entire C: on windows
<6> meta: there is no su p***, there is no root account active
<0> i want to change the root's p***
<3> trappist: so why Novell call that Novell Linux desktop ?
<6> melchus: please don't advise thta
<5> but dont see it from linux
<0> i'm want active root acc.
<6> mslonik: please don't advise that
<7> sudo -s
<6> ubotu: tell meta about root

<8> mirak: novell linux desktop is the whole distro, not just the new fancy X
<0> i know the disabled root acc
<7> meta, sudo -s
<6> meta: read that carefully, some parts of ubuntu will break when you enable the root account
<5> Dr_Willis: Ill give that a try
<9> can somone join #helpdual and help me how to do it?
<3> trappist: ok. I really want expos like stuff :D
<1> IdleOne, can you see it from windows - when looking at your windows box/shares?
<8> mirak: yeah me too. but mostly I want bouncy windows and live application thumbnails and a 3d desktop :)
<5> Dr_Willis: see what from windows/shares?
<2> I have grub problem (error 22) during Ubuntu 5.10 installation. please help me!
<8> oh and hardware-accelerated transparency without giving up glx
<5> Dr_Willis: see the linux shares you mean?
<0> ok
<0> and
<1> IdleOne, the windows box.. should be able to browse the network neighborhood and seeits own shares..
<0> why this:
<5> havent tried yet
<1> IdleOne, and see any linux shares.
<0> meta@kisgep:/opt/firefox/res$ sudo cat winter.css >> forms.css
<0> bash: forms.css: Hozzfrs megtagadva
<4> trappist, mirak: Why not install Gentoo next to Ubuntu and then try the things there? It crashes heavily anyway... :)
<0> it means, acces denied
<5> Dr_Willis: gonna give it a try now
<8> meta: file redirection with sudo doesn't really work like you think
<10> Unfortunately my man pages are missing functions that I most definatley have (and use, such as epoll_ctl) any ideas?
<3> Tomcat_: I don't have room for gentoo, on this box
<8> Tomcat_: I HATE gentoo :)
<4> Haha. :>
<1> IdleOne, its getting where its easier to just use 'ssh' and 'winscp' to transfer stuff these days. Lol...
<11> hey all. anyone know how to kill a frozen 'mount' process? trying to mount a dvd inside a chroot and it just hangs. "sudo kill -9 <pid>" returns nothing but doesn't kill the process?
<3> Tomcat_: once I decide dapper is stable enough on my main box, I will think remove the breezy and install something else
<5> Dr_Willis: yeah i was told that but Im a glutten for punishment lol
<8> Jave27: I've never been able to fix that without a reboot.
<3> Tomcat_: and I don't like gentoo much as well :)
<1> IdleOne, part of the issue these days is all the firewalling/rule/security features that are on by default.
<9> Ok i put my unbunti disk and and rebuted and pressed f1 and i got a list of ones to select
<9> i want to do a dual boot
<9> how do i do it?
<11> trappist: yeah, that's been my hack recently... hoping there's a better way, though
<1> IdleOne, there is also 'using samba' avilable online - a must read book - for any samba users.,
<3> Jave27: the mounts are horribly handled by linux. That's the Linux weakest point I think
<12> have enyone tryed to install ubuntu from net
<9> Can anyone help?
<1> heh - testing out dapper on my spare box myself right now.. :P wondering what "OEM" mode is.
<1> Stirm, normally when Ubuntu installs it sets up the grub menu to dual boot. The cd - does not have a 'dual boot' menu as far as i know.
<13> OEM = original equipment manufacturer. i guess it's for manufacturers wanting to preinstall ubuntu
<1> HappyFool, yea - guess if i had 100 identical machines? :P
<14> Dapper is coming in, what? April?
<8> Breezy-CA: yes
<13> Dr_Willis: well, more than a few, anyway ;)
<13> !dapper
<15> The 6.04 version of Ubuntu will be the "Dapper Drake" release, due april 20, 2006. If you want to use it before then, be warned that it's not yet stable and may break. You get to keep/repair the pieces.
<9> Ok
<1> HappyFool, i was impressed the isntaller saw my wireless card at the start. :P thats a GOOD sign!
<16> damn kubuntu,, is friking unstable.. my kde desktop freezes,, but i can move my mouse.. odd.. Everything runs fine when i use gnome
<13> Dr_Willis: cool
<1> HappyFool, and i foind a bios update for my laptop that fixes the 'clock running too fast' issue :P
<16> someone give me a beer before i go crazy :E
<17> !beer nuxil

<15> tonyyarusso: Huh? Try searching at http://ubuntu.cc.com.au/
<17> Awww.
<16> lol
<17> nuxil: Guess you'll have to get it yourself.
<16> tonyyarusso yea..guess so
<18> Serveas, Qwerti, I get an Unmet dependencies error when i do sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop from my half-finished Ubuntu installation...any ideas?
<17> Dr_Willis: OEM is for vendors to preinstall the OS, such that it just asks some basic setup questions (locale, default user, etc.) on first boot, similar to the way a preinstalled Windows machine would ship to you.
<1> tonyyarusso, cool. so its more of a 'pre partition' the hd. and so on. Or could ya change the default wallpapers and logos and so forth as well?
<17> Dr_Willis: Not sure. Haven't actually tried it myself, just read a little on the wiki and such. It sounds like it's fairly configurable (can add extra programs and stuff too), so I'll bet you could.
<19> how do I view sendmails logs?
<16> /var/log
<19> nuxil: i cant find it in there
<9> how do i make another dardrive?
<9> i mean parttuin
<1> tonyyarusso, cool. :P gotta love flexability!
<17> Dr_Willis: Yep.
<16> bina in the systemlog
<2> I have grub problem (error 22) during Ubuntu 5.10 installation. please help me!
<1> Ubuntu is progressing at a good rate - in the right direction. :P
<17> bllx: Do you have all of the repos enabled and/or the CD in the drive?
<19> nuxil: thanks
<9> How do i make another partiton
<17> Stirm: Graphically, GParted.
<1> Stirm, you need to clarify what exactly you are doing.
<18> i havent touched anything except the yaboot.conf , so yes
<20> rebonjour
<21> my app is going to use some audio files, which will ship with the package, which format is a better option ? ogg or mp3
<1> digitalSurgeon, ogg would be my guess.
<17> digitalSurgeon: ogg is free, mp3 is not.
<18> i ***ume
<22> hi everybody, again :)
<19> hmm, my sendmail isnt reporting any errors but it isnt sending any messages using the php mail() function, does anyone know why this could be?
<19> i think its all configured right
<22> now I have a .img image of the corrupted usb memory key (fat32)..any ideas how I could fix it?
<9> How do i do tgar
<22> the filesystem seems to be scrambled
<17> bllx: I think at first online repos might still be commented out, since we've seen a number of people without them (don't remember myself). Could you pastebin your /etc/apt/sources.list?
<21> thannkx Dr_Willis and tonyyarusso
<18> ok
<18> where's the pastebin?
<18> o i see..topic
<17> !pastebin
<15> from memory, pastebin is a site where you can post large texts and screenshots so you don't flood the channel. You can find it at http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org - Install webboard for easy pasting from the gnome taskbar :)
<23> a good GUI FTP program for Gnome?
<23> still cant find one :/
<3> danielgravenor: konqueror ?
<17> danielgravenor: I use gftp.
<24> what's wrong with gftp
<1> danielgravenor, most of the 2 pane file managers can do ftp as well
<23> gftp crashes
<3> danielgravenor: is konqueror then
<1> danielgravenor, or you can mount ftp locations I recall.
<23> nautilus crashes
<23> is konqueror for the k desktop?
<17> danielgravenor: With Breezy or Dapper?
<23> breezy
<0> !thunderbird
<15> I heard thunderbird is a FOSS email client, capable of close cooperation with Firefox, both by the Mozilla Foundation. To make your thunderbird links open in firefox, see http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=60427
<23> i used to use flashfxp on windows, but I cant find anything comparable in ubuntu
<17> danielgravenor: Very curious..
<23> i tried opening it in wine, but it just crashes
<25> hey, got a server with eth0 (conntected to the internet) and eth1 (connected to the lan), what do I have to do, to give computers on the lan access to the internet?
<0> !thunderbird1.5
<15> from memory, thunderbird1.5 is https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ThunderbirdNewVersion
<17> danielgravenor: Maybe kbear or pureadmin.
<26> hm
<27> hello everyone
<28> 1.5 up 'n running thanks ppl
<23> i heard of SwiftFXP but it doesn't come already pre-packaged, and I am not good with compiling yet ... and the readme only has the guy's email address :/

<23> i'll see if I can find pureadmin
