<0> is there a font that's known for its readability?
<1> taylor_: why are you repeating a question that you just asked?
<2> cause i didnt get an answer
<2> i just need to know how to edit permissions on a drive
<3> yes ?
<4> phbc50: I installed ubuntu on hda5 at some point, and set that up. then at another point, I installed ubuntu on hdb1 for some reason, but never really used it. Then recently, I was clearing up space on the HDs, and saw a install(hdb1) that did not have any important files, so I was like, sure, I'll erase it. Bad idea:) So I erased GRUB. That is it.
<5> taylor_, do you have two rewritable drives?
<6> hmm
<7> hCan you boot from an LVM volume?
<2> yea but one is a USB and i dont feel liike dealing iwth it
<6> e17 is like 80% PNG files :P
<2> so i just need to use the one that also counts as my cd rom
<5> taylor_, are you sure it's looking at the right drive
<2> its the only drive hooked up
<5> well in that case you could always try the other drive.
<5> if it's an urgent matter, anyway.

<2> i tried it along time ago and never got anywhere with it it doesnt automount so yea
<1> taylor_: which application are you using, and have you tried other burning apps yet?
<2> gnomebaker and cd/dvd creator
<5> cd/dvd creator, as in adaptec cd/dvd creator?
<8> ?
<2> nevermind i got it working
<2> thanks
<5> sure, no problem.
<1> eobanb: he probably means the Nautilus burning app...
<2> no the one that comes with hoary
<3> ok...something similar happened to me recently ;), I installed another OS, and erased mbr on the master HD...I've just recently found this solution in order to get ubuntu back to life...
<9> i've got two nvidia cards, one's an agp though - is there a way i can tell which one is which for my xorg.conf file?
<5> taylor_, Serpentine?
<4> phbc50: well, I was lucky you were here. Although the forums have a similar solution. But, I tried one of the solutions from the forums, and jack.
<2> i dont know it popped up in a window when i put a blank disc in before i tried gnomebaker
<3> daBar : glad it worked also for you...
<4> Ya, me too.
<5> nautilus then, i guess.
<2> yea
<3> :)
<4> Im off. It is 3:38 here.
<2> im 10 mins behind you
<4> same here, sorry, my comp does not like me to be late places.
<3> daBar : See you 'later
<4> Yup, thanks again, much appreciated.
<2> eoband: how long is the "fixating" process supposed to take
<10> ubuntu has crashed on me twice where the screen goes all weird and it can only change back small sections by highlighting it.Any ideas?
<11> is there another way to download and install java-package? I found a site that has it as a .deb file.
<12> hello all, I'm tinkering around with apt-get and synaptic: after complete removal of apache and apache2 packages I've issued "sudo apt-get libapache2-mod-security", everything goes ok but at the end mod-security.load isn't in /etc/apache2/mods-avalaible, any idea of this behaviour?
<13> ubotu tell automagically about javadebs
<13> automagically, look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SeveasPackages
<14> hey im kind of a noob and i was wondering if when you recieve a new kernel from the update manager is it recomiled when installed?
<14> recompiled*
<12> alex2456, fortunately no
<8> :)
<8> it'd be kinda... erm....
<14> sid77: thanks
<12> time condsuming ;-)
<5> what is this, gentoo? :)
<12> lol
<5> well it's 4:40 here, i'm off
<11> i don't understand what that seveaspackages is. was i supposed to type that stuff on command line? says deb: command not found.
<11> can't i just double click jre-1_5_0_06-linux-i586.bin? :p
<14> sid77: is it ever really necessary to recompile the kernel after a certain period of time, or is it only good to do for new unsupported hardware
<12> alex2456, you need to recompile the kernel only if you wish to change the default configuration
<14> sid77: ok thanks alot
<12> or if you have some strange exotic hw that default kernel doesn't support
<10> hmm firefox for me spends ages looking up the website but so do all the browser on ubuntu.ANy ideas?
<14> automagically: do you need some help getting j2re1.5 working?

<10> wine?
<8> yes
<2> how does that work
<8> wine beats WinXP sp2 in 65 tests
<2> is it in synaptic?
<8> nope
<8> www.wine.net
<8> or org, or com
<14> wine is in synaptic
<2> which one do i download
<11> was trying to install java. was following the wiki, said if there was a problem with java-package not found, check synaptic. can't get java-package to show up in synaptic.

<8> turn other packages on in settings
<8> it's called something like vance package...
<12> if I force the installation of an already installed package through dpkg it will overwrite old files?
<14> automagically: ok heres what you do because i had this problem as well, you need to add reposotories in synaptic
<8> not sure
<15> automagically: i think java-package is in the multiverse repo
<8> yes, repositories, it's called
<14> automagically: let me look up the reposotory
<11> i have all the software sources checkboxes checked
<15> just apt-cache policy java-package
<11> and it keeps downloading like 26 things everytime i close it
<1> !info java-package
<16> java-package: (utility for building Java(TM) 2 related Debian packages), section multiverse/misc, is optional. Version: 0.26 (breezy), Packaged size: 20 kB, Installed size: 308 kB
<8> :)
<8> install alien and use it.
<1> there we go - it's in Multiverse
<17> Can I link the contents of a folder to another folder? So that when I e.g. add something to the folder itll link it automatically..
<15> thats what i said :(
<8> no idea.
<2> so how do i run windows programs in wine after i download it?
<8> read man
<2> where do i read about it
<1> xophEr: you can do symlinks - "ln -s /real/dir/ /new/fake/symlink/
<1> "
<8> google.
<18> taylor_: 'wine notepad.exe'
<1> xophEr: start by reading "man ln"
<17> Madpilot, will do.

<20> at least point me to a "how-to" page perhaps
<9> hi all, i've got two nvidia cards in my system, but how can i use the nvidia-settings on the second one?
<21> man this is great, I have in the past month.. since the beginning of January.. got mp3 support in, mpeg, and dvd.. :-)
<14> and add these two lines in it deb http://mirror2.ubuntulinux.nl/ breezy-seveas java
<14> deb-src http://mirror2.ubuntulinux.nl/ breezy-seveas java
<21> and deb files.. are so easy to install.. :)
<1> Zoo: Synpatic is even easier :P
<22> is there a good utility for doing videos with the ipod?

<19> I checked xorg's logfile, but I can't find any problems there
<23> how do I set a root p***word?
<19> when starting X my screen just goes blank
<15> ubotu tell LittleEndian about rootsudo
<21> sounds like a hardware issue Jimmy__
<19> LittleEndian: if it's the first time, boot in recovery mode and type 'p***wd root'
<19> Zoo: yeah, but I'm a bit clueless at the moment ;p
<23> ok ty Jimmy__
<21> hee
<19> the problem is I have to reboot my laptop every single time
<23> man this thing is amazingly simple to use but

<19> and fix the problem ;p
<21> lol... I used it as well
<19> you got it working? :)
<21> 3.1 sarge....
<21> yes
<19> I did too on debian
<21> I also use.. FreeBSD m8,,,
<19> but not on ubuntu :p
<21> but.. I switched to .. DesktopBSD..
<21> I use.. DesktopBSd, ubuntu/kubuntu/fluxbox, Xandros, and Fedora Core
