<0> lol
<1> excuse me mr madpilot
<2> but if all the great apps I want to run are based on KDE, wouldnt it make more logic to install kubuntu
<3> xxozxx: any line with your name shows in red
<4> xxozxx, I show up in red because I've put your nick in this line, that's all
<5> crimsun_ the onboard, the USB is just a built in webcam with mic
<4> maybelle, hmm??
<6> o ok
<7> bert_: please pastebin the contents of /etc/asound.conf and ~/.asoundrc* (if any of those exist)
<8> Frogzoo, Scorpmoon, I would hardly call it a poor cousin. ubuntu (the base system) is improved a lot, and kubuntu benefits a lot from that as well. ubuntu (the desktop flavor) does have a larger team, than kubuntu, but the stuff behind the scenes is all the same quality. and kubuntu is rather good as well.
<1> ive install the driver hpijs
<1> but then
<9> crimsun_ he posted it ^
<1> when i started printing
<1> nothng comes out
<1> :((

<10> Czy jest kto[ z Polski?
<4> !pl
<11> Mozesz uzyskac pomoc w jezyku polskim na #ubuntu-pl
<9> oh sorry... misread.
<5> crimsun_ pastebin? sorry, I'm new at this
<2> i want to install ubuntu, but not if it means my kde apps run slower or take up more ressources
<3> Flannel: I knew someone wouldn't let that slide without comment ;)
<6> Madpilot, i need a good list of archives for my source file, or a good way to add them
<12> When I open a folder, how do I make it so that konquerer opens it instead of the default dapper file manager?
<1> what should i do madpilot
<1> ???
<3> !tell xxozxx about easysource
<4> maybelle, I'm not sure - my own HP Deskjet works just fine...
<6> sweet
<4> xxozxx, for Dapper, http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/6666
<9> crimsun_ sorry i misread. i'll go and leave you with him.
<1> how didi you do it
<6> Frogzoo, Madpilot, ty
<1> can you tell me the step by step procedure
<1> pls....
<10> Pozdrawiam was ciule.
<10> Elo Poland?
<10> Enybody?
<4> maybelle, I did System->Admin->Printing->New Printer, and it worked. Sorry, there's not much more I can tell you...
<1> should i rstart my computer after ive install the driver for my printer?
<4> telemarketer2, #ubuntu-pl
<0> YAY!
<7> bert_: some instructions for pastebin were sent to you in a query
<4> maybelle, shouldn't be needed.
<12> How do I make Konquerer open folders by default instead of Dapper's file browser
<13> maybelle: that would be the beauty of linux that you should not need to
<14> Doesn't sudo just get really annoying after a while ... ?
<13> yeah
<13> create a root p***word
<7> bert_: after you've pastebinned it, let me know the url
<13> babo: sudo p***wd
<9> cartur25 prefered apps ?
<2> isnt the p***word you create during installation = root p***word
<13> babo: then su to root
<0> Hm
<1> waaaaaaaaa
<8> Scorpmoon: no.
<8> !tell Scorpmoon about root
<0> What's the best mp3 player for ubuntu?
<13> Scorpmoon: yes and no
<15> Scorpmoon: no, it is a sudo-enabled user
<6> madpilot, will thoses sources work with ubuntu 5.04, or should i upgrade?
<8> _RCM_: don't suggest the use of su please.
<4> _RCM_, there's no need for a root pw in Ubuntu...
<0> I have some .mp3's that work on wmp but don't work on Ubuntu
<2> ok
<4> xxozxx, those are 6.06 Dapper sources
<12> intelikey: where is the preferred apps options
<4> xxozxx, Breezy repos: http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/6047
<15> Scorpmoon: that person can do root tasks, and even sudo su to work as root, but is different in ways (for example it doesn't always have root's privileges)
<16> !mp3
<11> methinks mp3 is a patented format; to enable mp3 capability see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RestrictedFormats
<9> _RCM_ you'll get scolded for advising people to set a root p***word.
<4> hi HedgeMage
<13> yeah no kidding

<0> ubot, Thanks =(
<0> =)*
<9> cartur25 idk look around. system preferances.
<13> Flannel, why is that? i am not trying to argue, i am just curious as to why
<15> hi Madpilot, it's true, resistance is futile, I'm one of you now :P
<9> _RCM_ they can use sudo -i bash
<8> _RCM_: you wondering why not to use sudo? or why not to tell people to?
<15> Madpilot: voted in last Edubuntu community council meeting
<8> _RCM_: erm, why to use sudo.
<6> Madpilot, im guessing the breezy works with 5.04 too?
<4> HedgeMage, congratulations
<17> !keyring
<11> NO SPEAKE ENLISH! Try searching at http://ubuntu.cc.com.au/, _nano_
<1> Printing: open device failed; will retry in 30 seconds... what is this????
<4> xxozxx, Breezy is 5.04
<8> xxozxx: no, that's hoary.
<15> Madpilot: thanks :)
<8> Madpilot: 5.10
<1> can somebody help me
<1> :((
<18> Guys! any of you know sysvconfig?
<9> Flannel i'm wondering why to use sudo it wont work here.
<4> xxozxx, gah, sorry, it's late. 5.04 = Hoary, 5.10 = Breezy, 6.06 = Dapper
<6> Madpilot, i have hoary
<19> wanted to know if it is hard to set up linux for a starting user and if ubuntu was a good start since its a debian based distro.. but my only worry is my d-link dfe-530txs network card and the modem config.. can some1 help?
<7> bert_: any luck yet?
<20> Anybody else here have a latitude laptop they're running ubuntu on? Or something else with like...volume up/down/mute buttons that they've gotten working? :)
<21> [SWAT]: try the LiveCD first - see if your network works
<18> In SYSVCONFIG theres bluez-utils, is that for bluetooth? (trying to disable it)
<13> If i reacall correctly there are several pages on the ubuntu wiki that go so far as to tell users how to login to gnome as root
<19> ok
<8> !tell intelikey about root
<22> i cant install ubuntu 5.10 on my acer notbook, would 6.06 work maybe??
<19> good idea m8
<23> [SWAT], the nic shouldn't be any trouble. modem? i haven't used a modem since 1997 or so.
<8> intelikey: that page talks about pros/cons
<24> updated to 6.06 from hoary and the network card wont come up...it's a via onboard socket a network device
<19> not a 56k modem
<5> crimsun_ I hope this is it: http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/15372
<24> any help at least getting network up would be handy so then I can fix the rest of the computer remotely
<13> im not trying to argue
<13> i was just curious
<22> not even the live5.10 works to boot up from. breaks down at runlvl 5
<13> sorry for any trouble
<25> hello all
<9> Flannel i've read that page. still can't use sudo on this system.... can't use su either.
<26> If I import my *.pst files with Thunderbird in Windows, will it be problems to import the Thunderbird-Windowsfiles to Tunderbird-Linux? Please highlight my name.
<27> Has anyone here been able to successfully install Ubuntu and OS X on one hard drive in the machine?
<25> HELLO ALL!
<19> but ive had problem instaling my suse linux with the internet configured and all with and without my rooter
<19> :S
<8> intelikey: sounds like you've FUBARed something then.
<23> [SWAT], dsl or cable modem? MUCH easier to use a broadband router.
<3> benderz0r: updating to dapper from hoary is asking for trouble without going through breezy - no 'leap frogging' distributions
<19> cable modem kermitX_
<25> why doesnt su work
<6> benderz0r, can u tell me how to upgrade from hoary to 6.06?
<23> [SWAT], have a router already?
<18> Hello? any of you know whether bluez-utils in sysvconfig corresponds to bluetooth?
<9> Flannel by your standards, i guess so. / mounted nosuid
<4> xxozxx, you'd need to upgrade to 5.10, then to 6.06
<3> xxozxx: hoary -> breezy -> dapper - NO LEAP FROGGING distros
<7> bert_: yep, that looks proper. Please now pastebin the output from ``amixer''
<18> _joe, try sudo
<19> yes but i tried to configure my syse last time with and without it no luck
<6> benderz0r, ok, so how do i upgrade?
<28> How do you install custom themes?
<29> gr***hopper, BlueZ - Official Linux Bluetooth protocol stack. First google hit
<24> xxozxx: I believe these guys did it via the nice gui updater and some where along the line there was an error, I believe most of it is 6.06
<23> [SWAT], just enable DHCP in the router and let the installer auto configure it.
<25> gr***hopper: i used sudo, but i also want su
<19> ok
<4> uXp, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuEyeCandy
<8> intelikey: right, by the time you know how to do that, you're welcome to not use sudo, and you know about the consequences of running as root, etc.
