<1> tkup: but then id have to write that in every time i wanted to play
<2> TruckerMan, open a terminal, and type "sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list"
<3> hey how can I run a shell script as a seperate process so that I can continue using the command line?
<4> Killgore, I don't why you want that script in the first place :)
<2> dissident, put & at the end of the command
<5> dissident: put it in bg with an &
<4> Killgore, you're starting a program and killing it 15 seconds later
<6> thoreauputic: what about this part: X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain=xfce-utils
<6> i use xubuntuj
<7> hrh166, do a 'killall synaptic' (without the tick marks, of course).
<1> tkup: to automate mundane tasks? frozen throne doesnt work until i kill that process
<3> nospace?
<8> evader: you lost me...
<3> or space?
<9> nickgarvey: thanks ... I have a windows partition on my machine that i no longer need or want, how do i get rid of it and give the entire disc to Ubuntu ?

<0> dissident: I put a space but it might not matter
<8> evader: what does that do?
<10> heyas barbee
<1> tkup: it starts the wine of war3.exe and Frozen Throne.exe
<10> sorry
<6> thoreauputic: that is the last line in my xfce.desktop file, that I am using as a template
<3> alright thanks
<11> synaptic: no process killed
<6> do i need it?
<2> dissident, "command &" - so with a space
<3> cool thanks guys
<8> evader: just alter the relevant lines
<4> Killgore, but you're killing Frozen Throne.exe after 15 seconds anyway
<12> River: gparted/qparted
<0> River: while installing one of the options is use entire hard drive (hda most likely) but I suggest again deleting windows if you don't need it
<13> Madpilot, should i past it in #flood?
<8> evader: the most important is the execute line
<6> thoreauputic: ok, i'll try this, restart X
<0> River: oh but if you have already install yeah use gparted
<8> evader: or exec or whatever
<4> Killgore, ah I see
<2> TruckerMan, no, use pastebin please
<1> tkup: ok 15 is too long, but if i kill war3,exe it doesnt work it only starts if i kill ft.exe
<13> the url?
<2> TruckerMan, http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/
<0> River: you might want to not delete windows, you might need it is what I ment
<8> evader: you rename the *.desktop file to suit, of course
<4> Killgore, ok makes sense now
<6> yep
<14> hi some one has problems with centrino computers?
<0> River: depends on how you plan to use the computer, but thats 100+ dollars worth of software you are deleting
<15> does anyone know how to disable the xmms flashing in the task panel?
<10> it says cant find package build-essentials
<0> lestatslair: drop the s on the end
<8> lestatslair: build-esential
<0> thoreauputic: and toss an s in that ;)
<10> ty
<8> umm double "s" , yeah :)
<9> nickgarvey: have no further use for it .. it is only taking up space ... 100+ dollars of useless software !
<13> ok Madpilot
<0> River: use gparted then
<13> its pasted
<0> !tell River about gparted
<2> TruckerMan, you need to post your pastebin URL here
<4> Killgore, did that solve the problem?
<14> some one has ran ubuntu on a centrino pc?
<0> pau: google it
<13> http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/11809
<8> pau: I'm sure *someone* has...
<14> ok
<1> tkup: i ruined it. Let me try again
<8> ;)
<11> still stuck
<14> thanks a lot
<7> hrh166, it could be that your username is not in the sudoers file, let me look into it.
<8> pau: maybe a more specific question would help :)
<16> lestatslair, build-essential (without trailing s)
<2> TruckerMan, the US archives have had various troubles - try this sources.list instead: http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/6047
<11> ok
<17> Im back :)
<9> can anyone tell me how to use gparted ?

<18> For the life of me, I can not get opengl to work on my AMD64 pc with my nvidia card :(
<1> tkup: can i look in some sort of log to see if its doing anything?
<14> i think my computer dosn't work 100%
<10> still getting same error
<10> autoconf.h does not exist
<7> hrh166, 'sudo gedit /etc/setup.sh' and put what it prints in http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/
<8> River: usually easiest to use gparted from a live CD
<9> nickgarvey: thanks for the info ... will go find it
<8> River: you can't do much unless the filesystems are unmounted
<18> exit
<13> just replace that text for my sources.list file?
<13> Madpilot
<2> TruckerMan, yes
<19> how do you install GTK+ ?
<10> my current running kernel is 2.6.12-9-386
<8> dff: you mean the developamnt libs?
<20> Hello
<20> I need help
<8> dff: on a default install you already have gtk+
<11> I typed in the command and it repeated the command line prompt.

<10> i did the sudo apt-get and it installed fine
<4> Killgore, try this script http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/11811
<20> How do I install a file that somebody else made (StepMania)
<8> lililililillili: why are you on irc as root?
<2> lililililillili, first you need to ask an actual question :)
<17> anyway, I need help with LCD brigthness, the boot default was 8 and need change to 5..
<1> tkup: can i get it to open a new terminal to do the kill thing? i dont think its working in the current terminal
<7> hrh166, did you remember to remove the tick marks?
<11> yes
<21> lililililillili: you have a longggggggggg nickname.
<7> Strange. Try removing the sudo from that last command,
<22> this better?
<23> better
<22> I am now know as cloud
<5> PwcrLinux: so use your dim buttons?
<17> Orbin: I am on the lappy

<22> Ok, I have a complete file (Stepmania-3.9) What do I have to type in terminal to install it?
<17> Orbin: I have to manually use FN+F5 down to 5
<25> anyone know how to track down a directory that search can't find
<5> PwcrLinux: well, i remember i only had to change brightness once: on 1st boot. it should remember it after that
<2> Cloud, what file type is it? (does it end in .deb, .bin, or something else?)
<26> odat: use locate (may need to do 'sudo updatedb'), or find
<22> It originally was a tar.gz
<22> But I unzipped it
<22> now what?
<25> _jason, how?
<7> hrh166, gedit /etc/setup.sh
<26> odat: locate file, or find / -iname file
<26> odat: man locate, and man find for more info of course :)
<19> thoreauputic, yes
<27> orbin, try locate *"directory" and/or locate "*.directory"
<9> nickgarvey: while I am waiting for the live CD to download, is it possible under Linux to have more than one physical hard drive to appear as one drive ? if it is, how do I do it ?
<4> Killgore, yes you can do that it's here: http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/11814
<8> dff: apt-cache search libgtk | grep dev
<27> odat sorry that was for you not orbin
<28> River, that is called RAID, you can do it, but software RAID is a tricky business
<5> odat: i think ablyss's post was meant for you
<17> Orbin: OSD works good, I just found that was in other login hidden after startx to get onto GUI, then I realized the OSD didn't work, so I popped my mind up, then I try to "Restart" in Log out menus, it's goes to full text screen as terminal box.. I had to sudo reboot and then GUI came on and full brightness.. I had to manually down to 5, checked on OSD, it's work good..
<10> any other ideas?
<6> thoreauputic: that .desktop stuff worked well thanks
<29> hey guys, I installed banshee today and after a little research and trying to get it to synch with my Ipod i learned that the version in the repository is old. How do I uninstall it? Currently it starts and then closes by itself after a few seconds.

<8> evader: no worries :)
<22> All I have is folder named StepMania-3.9, and I want to install its contents, what do i do?
<30> has anyone gotten the official aim for linux to work on Ubuntu ?!
<9> DBO: we don't particularly want a raid ..to tricky ;-) .. alternatively, what do I do to get Linux to use some space on hdd2 as well as primary drive ?
<31> what does gnu mean?
<7> `underOATH, why not just use GAIM?
<11> Ok..gedit window is open.
