<0> _jason: There's the filepath and name in green colour
<3> Hey everyone. Dapper seems to be working fine, is this a bug?
<4> I have saved an old gpg revocation certificate. Anyone want to tell me how to use it to revoke my old certs and create some new ones? (or import my old keys on this new system?)
<5> that certainly is not ab ug, tapox - that's by design.
<6> majd, I personally don't bother with ESD *at all*...too many bugs.
<7> majd: can you play /usr/share/sounds/startup.wav ?
<6> ubuntu, Did your grub install correctly? as in ... are you sure?
<1> it said it did
<1> i tried to reinsall and still nothing
<3> dj-fu: alright, a little unexpected though.

<6> tapox, I've heard Dapper doesn't have any real show stopping bugs anymore.
<8> hey guys no windows os showed up in that GRUB menu
<5> todd, that's GREAT! you're one step closer to freedom
<8> lol
<6> dj-fu, Not helpful.
<5> Now all you have to do is throw the aformentioned windows operating systems out of the window
<3> I guess if I want to make Dapper fun anymore, I need to start deleting kernel modules and config files at random.
<6> tapox, Do it :)
<5> tapox, try installing Xgl & Compiz
<6> ubuntu, Umm...are you dual booting?
<0> _jason: hello?
<6> ubuntu, Which leads to next question, if you are, did you set it up correctly? Tell me how you set it up.
<7> geniusvicks: hmm should be working... does your java work?
<3> dj-fu: Good idea, this computer is held together by duct tape, no way in hell it will handle Xgl & Compiz
<8> can anyone help me put that windows os into that grub menu?
<0> ya
<5> tapox, :D
<0> _jason: LIMEWIRE works
<3> (Well, scotch tape. I'm cheap.)
<6> todd, Easiest for a noob would just be to reinstall Ubuntu, prevents messing with the grub config. But ask someone a bit more into that to help you config the grub file.
<3> Hey! Someone from MA!
<9> ya
<1> umm
<8> do i have to set the windows HD to slave for it to show up?
<2> jon_/ _jason now i can't play anything :( i screwed it up worse than it was before
<1> i set it up with default and yes im dual booting
<8> ot will cable work
<9> tapox, where r u from?
<3> khermans: Milton.
<5> todd, once you work out which drive/partition your windows is on - make it look something like this, where hd(DRIVE,PARTITION) http://pastebin.com/647421
<10> hi there! my problem is: i would like to hear a mp3/ogg files in nautilus window, however, it doesn't work. I have enabled this function in nautilus opitons menu, i have also enebled gnome sound server and sound actions. I'm also sure that there is no other app blocking my audio device. I can hear sound conected with my acctions, eg. when minimalising a window, but i'm still unable to hear sound in nautilus. What should i do?
<7> majd: is esd running?
<6> majd, What options did you change it too? And don't worry, everything is reversable.
<2> jon_, it was on ESD
<9> tapox, ahh cool
<2> i changed it to ALSA, then back to ESD
<3> khermans: you?
<11> can i use the qemu package in synaptic to install qemu?
<9> tapox, amherst
<6> majd, What applications that use sound do you have runnig?
<6> running*
<8> yea that http://pastebin.com/647421 thing is greek to me can someone out that into english for me
<3> Heh, other side of the state eh?
<2> from what i can tell, nothing
<2> i have gdesklets, xchat, and...that's it
<2> unless something's running in the background
<7> geniusvicks: what does 'which firefox' say?
<2> my CPU has been going at 100% for a good 2 min now
<2> i can't figure out what it's from
<5> linux != english
<5> majd, run `ps -ef r`
<5> majd, that'll show you which processes are stealing the cpu.
<1> so, how do i reinstall this grub thing?
<0> it says /usr/bin/firefox
<2> UID PID PPID C STIME TTY STAT TIME CMD
<2> majd 19095 19083 0 02:28 pts/0 R+ 0:00 ps -ef r
<6> majd
<3> ubuntu: grub or grub-install, from memory.
<7> geniusvicks: hrmm are you sure that firefox1.5 is opening? check in help > about firefox
<6> majd, use Top to find the offending process
<6> majd, Just open terminal, type in top..

<2> k....
<12> anyone know how to change which driver your NIC uses?
<6> majd, Find the one using 99% CPU or memory. XD
<1> tapox, could you more clear? ive never used linux before
<8> can someone walk me through putting that into the GRUB
<0> _jason: Yes also it says "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5"
<2> java's using 71% cpu =\
<2> 77
<3> ubuntu: Sure, just give me a second, my computer's being a pain at the moment.
<5> java is sux
<1> ty so much
<2> python using 27
<2> but i don't have any java apps open =\
<6> majd, Kill that.
<2> jon_, kill java?
<6> majd, Gdesklets uses Java, and Java can be a memory leaker.
<2> oh ok
<6> majd, Yeah, kill java.
<7> geniusvicks: so do you just have your shortcuts point to /opt/firefox/firefox?
<9> java ****s
<13> majd: go to system tools > System Monitor and look for which program have excessive high CPU process..
<1> :)
<0> _jason: I'm not sure
<8> can someone walk me through putting that into the GRUB
<2> HOLY CRAP
<2> it dropped to 0
<3> ubuntu: open up a terminal (Applications>Utilities>Terminal) and type: sudo grub-install /dev/hda
<6> PwcrLinux, Bah, we teach it to him the right way, top. ;) The de-facto standard.
<1> should i close all these programs? im on the live cd
<14> I don't believe gdesklets use java
<2> http://img107.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot17qv.png
<6> lakcaj, I'm 90% it does.
<5> it could probably be made to use antyhing
<15> todd: What do you need to do?
<14> jon_, I'm 99% sure it doesn't
<2> lakcaj, i shut down gdesklets and it didn't go down...i went to the system monitor and killed java...and that did it
<2> CPU usage...that is
<6> lakcaj, No, that's right... it uses python :)
<8> i got 2 HDs one with windows and one with linux i want to be able to select which one i can bott into
<6> lakcaj, hence why I didn't like it...used too much of my poor system.
<2> todd, get grub.....
<14> I don't like gdesklets either - it is a memory hog
<2> grrr
<2> there's no substitute to jvaa
<2> *java
<2> i need it
<15> todd: Does grub-install auto-detect your setup?
<14> torsmo is a fairly lightweight system monitor that can run on the desktop
<7> geniusvicks: ok, close all firefox, 'killall firefox-bin' to make sure it closed, then run '/opt/firefox/firefox' and test the java again
<6> majd, Yeah, but it just leaks sometimes..
<2> gay
<6> majd, It'll run again when an application uses it.
<8> tony--- how do i find that out
<6> majd, I find the main pain in the butt ... is java with firefox.
<2> i don't even know what memory leaks are...technically
<16> Hey guys, I have apache2/php4/mysql stored, and I wanted to make use of XSL/XSLT so I downloaded the php4-xslt package but im getting undefined function errors, do i have to do something else to enable it?
<2> WebLOCH, you have to set php.ini up
<13> SunJava is good?
<6> majd, Where an application ... starts using more and more memory..when it's not supposed too. I forget the technical explination...but it's boring anyways. :)
<2> lol
<2> good enoughj
<2> *enough
<2> thanks for the help....now back to my audio problem...i need to hear this song...:(
<16> majd, ahh right... is the extension just "xslt.so" ?
<1> tapox
<14> majd, a program uses memory, and when it is done with it is is supposed to tell the system that that memory is available again for other programs. Some poorly written apps forget to tell the OS that the memory is free, hence the gradual slowdown of your system
<15> todd: One second, I'm hoping to reference the wiki for you. Essentially, you try running the grub installer, and see if it works.
<1> my pms are being banned!@
<0> _jason: there's a message if I launch firefox in terminal
<2> WebLOCH, beats me
<0> I'm posting it
<1> let me register i guess
<16> fair enough
<1> wait
