<0> I have no other apparent sound problems
<1> mwe where does KDE keep the normal icons ...
<2> iceman: but at least you can replace the krappy default icon
<2> iceman: /usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/*/*/kcmkicker.png
<3> what does it actually do?
<1> mwe yea that default one gets pld fast
<4> i would like to take a bunch of my old computers (pentium 2s and 3s) with 1 gig hard drives and minimal memory and set them up for internet access for children, charities, etc.
<2> iceman: where the first * is your current theme
<4> besides saying "ubuntu pwns red hat" can anyone give me specifics?
<2> iceman: the second is a size like 32x32
<5> Hello, can I uipgrade from sarge to ubuntu?
<2> iceman: that's the kicker pixmap
<6> dsl_: sarge is debian right?
<7> gonzobrains: the deb system management tools are much nicer than the rpm ones.
<8> NickGarvey: yes
<5> Yes, debian current.

<9> anyone have a dapper box with their first user that they haven't changed the groups on? can you type groups and tell me what it says? I think I messed mine up
<10> i need a tool to be able to set brightness for my ATI x300se-card. anyone knows one?
<4> ok
<6> dsl_: not really, need to do a new install
<3> <4> I'm currently installing ubuntu on an old pentium 2 with a 4 GB HDD on
<8> dsl_: Open your sources.list and replace sarge with breezy, and remove the debian-only things in your list
<3> I'll tell you how it goes lol
<3> laptop too
<4> can i use ubuntu in an embedded environment or is there a better solution?
<5> jossver: K.
<4> swalchy: that's dope!
<8> dsl_: then apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade; it's not guaranteed to work, but you might give it a try
<11> is it against the law to sell open software?
<2> gonzobrains: you can
<3> huh?
<12> lancia: no
<13> armann: please paste this list in place of yours i wanna see if the ic repos are down http://pastebin.com/641058
<14> lancia: no
<7> gonzobrains: Depends on the hardware specs; generally I'd say there would be a better solution.
<6> lancia: no
<6> I felt left out
<2> gonzobrains: in fact it's not uncommen. but i'm not into the details
<5> jossver: Thanks!
<7> !test
<15> Stop poking me!
<11> i was looking at some medical software that is open but they are selling it. maybe it is value added?
<6> yes!
<6> !hug
<15> ubotu gives nickgarvey a hug. There, there, is that better?
<3> Another quick Q:
<16> !botsnack
<15> :)
<14> lancia: are they selling support, or just the media, or what?
<3> Does Ubuntu support Linksys wireless network cards?
<8> aaaaah
<8> ubotu is back
<15> Bugger all, I dunno. Try searching at http://ubuntu.cc.com.au/, jossver
<6> !Wireless
<15> I guess wireless is https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportComponentsWirelessNetworkCards if it does not work out of the box https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WifiDocs/Driver/Ndiswrapper windows drivers
<17> !wifi
<15> rumour has it, wifi is https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WiFiHowto
<11> http://www.synitech.com/openemr/index.php
<14> either way it's probably fine, depending on the license
<18> Alright, well I have a problem. When I was using Version 4. something of Ubuntu, it ran great. The base system was perfect for me, because it enabled me to install anything I wanted. Then I install version 5.10, download some source code, and go to install it. It starts giving me errors about the command "make" and "make install". So then I installed the package that controls those two commands with sudo apt-get install. Once
<18> I did that, I go to install something again, and I continually get errors about the makefile. I hardly see how every single program I try to install could be screwed up, so the only logical thing is something messed up with make and make install. Can someone please help me?
<6> swalchy: 2 links up there ^
<6> SPAM
<19> cafuego: heh. What had happened? :)
<20> hi i just insterted my Mp3 player but i cant seem to delete or move files onto it... its like frozen moving. Its not an ipod its hould b plug n play
<21> gnomefreak, wtf.. still cant find vlc
<14> lancia: looks like you're paying for the documentation/support/external HDD
<7> apokryphos: dunno, the log just stopped and blootbot wasn't running. I blame perl.
<2> tspier2: install build-essential for starters
<13> armann: did you run sudo apt-get update
<4> cafuego: well, i worked for a company that used red hat to make slot machines
<11> ahh ok thanks
<11> :)
<18> mwe, that is what I installed.
<10> anyone, tool for setting my ATI-card's brightness?
<4> apparently it was okay to use as long as they published the parts of the kernel they had to modify
<22> tspier2: compiling is not a good option for starters and you will noever get away with dependencies

<2> tspier2: and what kind of errors do you get?
<7> gonzobrains: indeed.
<13> armann: its in universe repo
<19> cafuego: evil indeed =)
<4> but could you scale back ubuntu to just run embedded
<11> that is a very clever idea!
<14> lancia: and under the GPL, you can charge anything you want for the software, if you provide the source code and give all the same redistribution rights to anyone you sell it to
<18> mwe, let me quick find you one...
<22> tspier2: for starters it`s always better to use apt-get
<23> how do I change my DNS server?
<2> tspier2: btw I'd advise you to use checkinstall to install the programs
<4> mwe: it's not uncommon? anywhere i can look for resources?
<7> gonzobrains: You could, but why not use a distro that IS already scaled back?
<14> I don't know that that is the license they're using here though
<3> wow
<3> now I've completely lost where I am..
<6> swalchy: scroll up
<6> !tell swalchy about wifi
<24> hi, i set up a crontab to run a shell script everyday at a certain time, but it didn't run the script? how can i find out what's wrong?
<6> !tell swalchy about wireless
<21> gnomefreak, anyways, if i already have the files, which i downloaded from some package thingie in firefox, how do i extract it?
<22> odin: sudo neat
<4> cafuego: that's what i'm asking. what's the best distro for that?
<21> gnomefreak, .deb files
<11> well then this means that anyone in here could sell Ubuntu or Kubuntu???
<13> armann: what type of format are they?
<4> it would be for a headless application
<7> gonzobrains: Again, that depends on your hardware.
<2> gnomefreak: I know some mobile phones use linux, but like I said I'm not into the details.
<18> mwe, here is an example error I get...
<18> make[2]: *** [install-binPROGRAMS] Error 1
<18> make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/troy/Desktop/supertux-0.1.3/src'
<18> make[1]: *** [install-am] Error 2
<18> make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/troy/Desktop/supertux-0.1.3/src'
<18> make: *** [install-recursive] Error 1
<6> lancia: yessir
<13> armann: to install .debs you run sudo dpkg -i file.deb
<6> !paste
<15> Don't flood the channel! Please use the pastebin at http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/ or the channel #flood to paste large amount of text.
<4> basic x86 process or maybe ARM, serial ports and ethernet
<11> but that doenst sound right...
<13> lol mwe ;)

<23> chanakya: what's sudo neat? I'm completely new to Linux
<6> lancia: why would people buy something that is free?
<7> gonzobrains: ram/storage?
<6> !tell odin about sido
<2> tspier2: how about sudo apt-get install supertux?
<6> !tell odin about sudo
<13> NickGarvey: no bot
<13> lol
<4> prolly like 128 meg flash and 2 megs RAM, maybe 256k non volatile
<6> !test
<15> Crashed.
<17> ubotu, is back
<2> tspier2: also don't paste in here. you'll get banned
<15> IdleOne: I don't know, try searching at http://ubuntu.cc.com.au/
<11> people do that all the time.
<11> but i agree
<3> thanks nick - IO've managed to find the driver I need for it
<18> mwe, sorry. I didn't know.
<22> odin well neat is a program that helps you set networkinh
<3> too bad it's not included on the Ubunut CD
<25> prblems installing mplayer. can anyone give me some advice
<2> tspier2: use pastebin.com or something like that
<13> huh when did he come back?
<7> gonzobrains: You're not going to be able to run Ubuntu in 2MB ram.
<18> Okay
<6> swalchy: theres not room for thousands of wireless drivers
<11> are any of these linux distros bootable from a memory usb stick?
<22> odin: or go to system --> networking
<3> what media player does Ubuntu use?
<7> gonzobrains: You'll need a highly tuned tiny kernel.
