<2> i think he will going to compile it for me...
<0> PwcrLinux, idk... im new to it sry...
<2> but the question is ... will it work ?
<1> adventchild: Okay :)
<4> aventchild: so do I maybe cos I have set up brideing in my network
<5> noo, i will try after i finish these reports i have to complete tho
<3> i want a linux distro to run on a ibm as/400
<5> now that is a thought
<6> linux-image-2.6.12-9-k7-smp :: Linux kernel image for version 2.6.12 on AMD K7 SMP.
<7> can anyone help me?
<5> as400 distro
<0> bliss1_, idk... i would rather use opera, but there is like no difference that would make me not be lazy enough to get it

<3> it's a mainframe
<5> it's a mini computer
<5> not a mini ;)
<5> not a mainframe
<6> linux-image-2.6.12-9-686-smp :: Linux kernel image for version 2.6.12 on PPro/Celeron/PII/PIII/PIV SMP
<6> kjd-ro, should be able to "sudo apt-get ..." one of those
<3> as/400 is the multi processor ibm server / mainframe
<5> no it's a mini computer
<7> ok... i have a question... i was here before and a guy named walden was helping me... i have a FAT drive for storage on my computer and i just installed ubuntu to my other drive... ubuntu recognizes it is there... but when i enable it in system/administration/disks... i can't edit anything on it... i can only copy or read data... as if it were an ntfs drive... can anyone help me make it so i can edit data on the drive too?
<2> yes i know
<1> anyway, my ubuntu BB 5.10 work and smoothly great on my Sony Vaio PCG-GRZ610 :)
<5> it's the next generation from the S/38
<3> no... search ebay ... mainframes
<2> but will gnome still work ?
<4> adventchild: ye I know just on the side do you know if its possible to change the procssor chip in a labtop
<6> yeah
<5> s/32 s/34 s/36 s/38 and finally AS400
<8> E4rlGrey: can you write to it as root?
<2> and everithing else .. ohh nice
<5> all mini computers
<6> except you'll need to reinstall the nVidia/ATI drives, if you use them
<6> and VMware... and everything else that has a kernel module
<6> but it should be pretty straight-forward
<2> i have matrox MG400
<3> i'm on a p4 2.8 ghz ...
<3> untill i get my amd 64 mobo replaced
<0> bliss1_, i believe so... but then you might run into probs with chipset and other compatibility issues
<2> prety hard to find drivers for it ... i found out...
<0> and bios has to support it
<7> sfar: I don't know... i'm pretty new at ubuntu (and linux in general)
<0> sudo
<9> ok is there an ubuntu (any variety or version) installer download that includes the nvidia drivers for chipset nforce 430
<5> doesnt ibm has a linux distro?
<6> konfuzed, you mean the nForce 4 chipset? nVidia offers it
<8> E4rlGrey: you can type "gksu nautilus" in a terminal windows.. this will launch nautilus (file browser) as root
<3> not sure if it will run on the rica ? processors
<3> rica not correct cant recall the actual cpu in theses
<8> then yuo can try to edit a file on the disc, or copy a file to the disc
<4> aventchild : yes your probably right, but got this intel D330 2.66GHz Celeron and its slugish
<9> holobyted, i mean the nforce 430/410 which is two chips instead of one
<6> yeah... nVidia offers it
<6> http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html
<6> "Adds support for nForce 430/410 motherboards"
<0> are you overclocking?
<4> aventchild; might be is there anything I can do?
<8> E4rlGrey: and IF you can write to the disc as root you need to "sudo chown username:username /mnt/whaeva/" (where /mnt/whaeva/ is the mountpoint for the hd)
<3> i got a AMD thunderbird 700 across the room for the wife ... and i use a p4 2.8
<0> bliss1_, how about ram?
<9> it seems that the current ubuntu installer does not enable the network card with nforce 430/410 chipset so it is not possible to download it to the box after install. also the xserver wont run and there is only the shell with no networking
<4> aventchild: 256 mb
<3> low ram there
<0> laptop right?
<3> 768 meg here
<9> so I hope to find an ubuntu (any variety or version) installer download that includes the nvidia drivers for chipset nforce 430/410
