<0> https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RootSudo?highlight=%28rootsudo%29 <<<info on sudo
<1> oh well.. shower
<2> lacnia, damn small linux is a good one for usb stick.
<3> swalchy: Rhythmbox
<4> Is it more customizable than windows media player? I'm gonna go with yes
<2> lancia*
<5> !tell gnomefreak about bot
<5> :)
<3> swalchy: "sudo apt-get install amarok"
<6> thanks for the info!
<0> lol IdleOne he was gone for the longest time
<7> i'm sorry that was a typo. 128 MB
<2> lancia, I also think Knoppix might boot from a usb stick.
<5> gnomefreak, he came back bout 5 minutes ago
<7> cafuego i've got 128 MB RAM
<8> (18:45:50) ubotu [n=blootbot@ubuntu.cc.com.au] entered the room.

<6> excellent
<9> gonzobrains: that'd do it.
<10> gonzobrains: my router runs linux (linksys) I don't know how much ram it has though ;)
<9> gonzobrains: I'd still have a bit of a google for embedded Linux distros, though, if I were you.
<7> cafuego_ but i don't have any need for graphics, etc...just want to make a headless app
<9> mwe: They typically have in between 4 and 16mb.
<2> mwe, there we go. Thanks. I need to remember to use apt-get instead of going from source right away.
<10> tspier2: yeah use apt-cache search first
<7> cafuego_ : good idea. thanks
<11> hmm, dapper changes to the gdm screen are strange
<12> where can i edit the fonts and make them easier to read on an LCD?
<10> tspier2: enable !universe and !multiverse too if you haven't for loads of more crap
<2> Okay
<13> when I dial in to internet, many times modem starts downloading, I believe its "update" something! How can I stop it doing this automatically?
<10> tspier2: (and none crap as well)
<13> cafuego: any ideas? :)
<7> cafuego_ you in cali?
<14> when starting mplayer i get the following error " new face failed. maybe the font path is wrong please supply the text font file ~/.mplayer/subfont.ttf" what do i do?
<13> Dele2: supply the font path :)
<9> gonzobrains: things like Ubuntu have kernels with *ALL* features enabled for a large range of desktop machines. Same goes fo the userapce apps. You can fix that by rebuilding, but on specialised distros, others do that, so you don't need to bother :-)
<9> gonzobrains: Han, .au
<15> Hi guys! Is there a kernel guru among you?
<7> cafuego_ : thanks
<16> um
<13> cafuego: when I dial in to internet, many times modem starts downloading, I believe its "update" something! How can I stop it doing this automatically?
<4> How long have you all been using linux for then?
<16> does anyone know if theres an automatix thing for dapper drake?
<0> !automatix
<17> I guess automatix is unsafe, it overwrites configuration files, and does things like "echo -e 'y\nY\n'" that are considered risky. Please do not use it. There are alternative applications, but it's often best to read the documentation.
<0> and no
<13> !turn off auto update
<17> eternaljoy-: Syntax error in line 1. Try searching at http://ubuntu.cc.com.au/
<18> can someone help me with my Palm/Linux Sync problem
<16> heh
<13> !turnoffautoupdate
<17> Huh? Try searching at http://ubuntu.cc.com.au/, eternaljoy-
<19> eternaljoy-: what makes you say that??
<14> how do i supply the font path? what file do i edit?
<13> liable: say what?
<10> gonzobrains: maybe something like DSL
<0> ubotu tell eth0-noob about easyubuntu
<20> eth0-noob, automatix should be avoided like the plague
<19> eternaljoy-: that it starts downloading something?
<13> liable: my auto update is on and its annyoing! I want to update manually
<9> !easyubuntu
<17> easyubuntu is an easy-to-use program for installing all your favorites. Java, Nvidia/ATI, and more. It is as safe as the team can make it. It doesn't change any settings by default. http://easyubuntu.freecontrib.org/ or #easyubuntu
<8> friends don't let friends use automatix
<19> eternaljoy-: so turn it off..
<13> liable: HOW???? :P
<13> liable: thats my question! HOW do I turn it off?
<21> to anyone and all: Any good/innovative ideas when creating swap partition?
<21> the reason I ask is that I have read somewhere that dividing my swap into two partitions, each on different disks and channels might result in speed increase...
<4> I so just killed the conversation
<9> liable: It might try to run an apt-get update when it detects a network connection, if it hasn't been online for a while.
<19> eternaljoy-: no idea, didnt even know there was automatic updates.
<22> okay, if anybody feels like helping me...i lspci -v and get all kinds of information on my wireless pci card and it mostly matches with alot of help/howto listings but doesnt match any of them completely, this could be just due to typoes? and what should i do now? just install ndiswrapper or what?
<23> Dele2: install mplayer-fonts
<13> liable: you must be new to ubuntu then!
<13> does anyone know how to turn off auto update?

<19> eternaljoy-: yes, i guess. :)
<11> eternaljoy-: System | Software Properties | Internet Updates
<13> zerokarmaleft: ok thanks
<13> zerokarmaleft: I dont see System | Software Properties
<7> mwe : DSL?
<24> is there a site for downloading soundcard drivers for ubuntu?
<10> gonzobrains: damn small linux
<13> zerokarmaleft: I only have System | prefernces and System | Administation
<25> My IRC software keeps going off...
<19> paradiseLost: alsa.org on sourceforge
<7> mwe: ahh, yes, i've heard of that briefly. thanxx
<9> If anyone is old enough to remember TTD and was addicted to it, OpenTTD is the coolest thing ever,
<13> zerokarmaleft: I dont see Internet Updates ANYWHERE! im using Breezy
<10> gonzobrains: I believe there is an embedded version
<26> using gnome, is there a way to adjust the scroll wheel rate? the mouse preference doesn't have an option for it.
<13> zerokarmaleft: well?
<25> Is there any way to fix a problem where Ubuntu freezes during boot, besides reinstalling?
<7> does anyone remember an online BBS text game called "geopolitics"?
<19> Cooner750: wheres it freeze?
<10> Cooner750: determine the problem first or it might persist
<8> cafuego_: is it in the repos?
<27> mwe dang how to change the stupid icon ... :( premission to move a image to that location
<11> eternaljoy-: System | Administration | Update Manager | Preferences | Settings
<13> hi :) does anyone know how to turn off auto update?
<13> zerokarmaleft: ok ty :)
<10> iceman: sudo -i to get a root prompt
<9> NickGarvey: No, but there's a .deb (you need a copy of the original game too, though)
<25> At the step "Setting up ALSA card 0....... OK" It's installed and configured to run on a USB external harddrive and worked fine until a power outage while it was running
<25> The step before that "Configuring network interfaces" it never says OK on
<10> iceman: or use sudo in front of every command
<19> Cooner750: then it just hangs?? try a fsck?
<13> zerokarmaleft: ok I unticked auto update :) So now I need to type apt-get update regularly, correct?
<27> how to get gimp running in sudo
<28> iceman: sudo -i sounds easier :p
<10> iceman: you should need that
<28> iceman: you don't want GIMP running in sudo I don't think
<10> iceman: copy the file to your homedir
<22> too many people in here
<11> eternaljoy-: yes, you have to manually update and upgrade
<25> Where can I get it to go to a command propmt to to fsck?
<28> TruckerMan: yes - go away :P ;-)
<13> zerokarmaleft: ok, thanks :)
<13> bye
<10> iceman: then edit it. then make a backup of the original and copy the new one back
<25> to do*
<29> how to tell beagle not to run with --debug ?
<9> phaidros: edit /usr/bin/beagle
<28> !tell Cooner750 about terminal
<10> iceman: changing owner/group to root on the way
<19> Cooner750: use a live cd
<22> Xenguy, your increasing my roadrage
<29> cafuego, didn't expect that to be a script :) thanx
<28> TruckerMan: heheh
<22> what kind of car do you drive?
<30> hi all
<8> hello
<18> hello
<31> would someone be able to help me with getting dri working on my IBM ThinkPad T30?
<9> phaidros: also do beagled-helper and beagle-search
<31> its got an ATI Mobility Radeon 7500
<27> dang lost the location of the K icon usr/apt/ ? ? ?
<8> !ati
<17> I guess ati is https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI or http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=24557&page=1&pp=10 or http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=423589
<10> iceman: o run on a USB external harddrive and worked fine until a power outage while it was running
<10> 01:01 <10> iceman: or use sudo in front of every command
<10> sorry!
<19> the 7500 is supported natively
<29> cafuego, where are the two located?
<31> NickGarvey, the card isn't supported by the ati firegl drivers
<30> hate to come to a new room and have to ask for help but sure could use some.
<10> iceman: /usr/share/icons/*/*/apps/kcmkicker.png
