<0> iG-Shoot-Me, go to the ubuntu homepage and read the install docs for a start to get the gist of what you are going to need to do.
<1> I don't think that is his case.
<2> iG-Shoot-Me, learn about partitions, or be brave and do trial and error....
<3> ok
<0> pbransford, no clue. I never use that feature.. but that sounds like a start.
<4> frank23: if sudo kill -9 <processid> doesn't kill it, it's probably a zombie & is doing nothing but taking up space in the process table
<1> I think his PC is just having connection problems
<5> iG-Shoot-Me, read first till you feel confident with what you are about to do :)
<1> its connected before just fine.
<6> lgc: Are you using anything like X transparency or somesuch? Do you elave apps like java, openoffice or Evolution open for long periods of time?
<1> in fact he can go to other servers and channels.
<4> frank23: did you use the pid in your kill -9 command?
<1> just not this particular channel.
<1> for w/e reason.
<2> iG-Shoot-Me, or if its a "test" machine, just play away
<5> iG-Shoot-Me, if you get the partitioning wrong you might muck up your windows install

<0> heh. if he cant get here.. sounds like the channel has him banned.
<3> I cant have that
<6> AscendedOne: The message you pasted is not related to this channel.
<3> I need this machine to work
<7> wastrel, can he throw salt at it?
<2> iG-Shoot-Me, so allways backup your sensitive data before format/repartition
<8> wastrel: 2 of them are defunct the other is frank 16800 0.0 3.7 75664 38792 pts/2 D+ 12:10 0:03 /usr/lib/bitpim-0.8.08/bp
<1> What the hell are you talking about.
<3> Where are the instal docks?
<4> pbransford: i think holy water works better
<3> install docs*
<0> backup your senestive data any way. :P
<1> I am trying to get my friend into this channel.
<6> AscendedOne: I'm talking about the 3 lines you pasted before.
<5> iG-Shoot-Me, hang ten and I'll find something for you
<8> wastrel: maybe two are zombies... yeah I tried the pid
<1> umm...
<9> can someone in dapper confirm that Blan doesn't work?
<3> rgr that
<10> AscendedOne: your friends problem is not ubuntu related please go to #freenode and ask there
<9> sudo apt-get install blam
<6> AscendedOne: That error is caused by the irc server, it's not related to specific channels.
<7> Dr_Willis, guess what? after installing "PDF Printer" shows up in my detected printers list...
<1> I am not leaving.
<1> I will just stop talking about it.
<1> I have no need to leave.
<6> AscendedOne: Step one on the way to solving it would be to try a different client and see what happens.
<2> !dualboot
<11> from memory, dualboot is https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WindowsDualBootHowTo
<1> and you have no authority to make me.
<1> so relax.
<6> If you didn't want help, don't ask for it.
<12> AscendedOne, he didnt mean you had to leave this room
<10> AscendedOne: welcome to stay and ask for / give help concerning ubuntu :)
<1> that isn't help.
<13> I installed Expocity and its really slow, is there a way to go back to the old configuration that I had with metacity
<14> !lions
<11> llODxCOll: What? Try searching at http://ubuntu.cc.com.au/
<12> AscendedOne, he just ment go there and ask
<15> Dr willis, thank you so much as well as bur[n]er and all of you
<12> AscendedOne, said nothing of what else you did here
<1> I know.
<1> I said I am.
<14> f
<5> iG-Shoot-Me, there is the link above from ubotu..and this guy has a good guide too http://users.bigpond.net.au/hermanzone/
<12> AscendedOne, so you relax
<5> iG-Shoot-Me, read both
<10> !tell AscendedOne about enter
<14> idiot
<14> ubotu: tell AscendedOne about enter
<6> llODxCOll: Need help at all?
<14> fffff
<10> troll
<14> !tell llODxCOll about this
<12> hehe
<6> bye!
<12> gj Madpilot
<16> cafuego, nothing of what you say, but I always have Opera working, together with other things (I always run the "Folding@home client" reniced to 0). In other words, I always have the beast fully loaded. But is that reason enough for my machine to behave windowslike? I don't even get to switch the graphic environment off (via Ctrl-Alt-Backspace) or use Ctrl-Alt-F#. Kinda' dismal!

<17> huh... anyone experience GPRS modem/cellphone, i mean on the ppp script and chatscript
<12> question: any way to get linux to read .ini files properly?
<0> whats 'properly' ?
<4> what's .ini?
<18> mordof, it seems to be Idiot Night on #ubuntu... bleh...
<12> the way they should be
<0> they are text files last i looked at them
<12> Dr_Willis, nah, not quite
<6> lgc: Any chance it might be overheating?
<0> mordof, good vague answer there. :P
<13> I replaced Metacity with Expocity. How can I go back to using metacity?
<12> Dr_Willis, they have different character encodings or w/e, gedit will not open the file
<19> so, i am trying to use the samba client built into gnome. when i try to navigate to it i get "smb://server is not a valid loaction. Please check the spelling and try again"
<6> lgc: 0 isn't renioced btw, 19 would be ;-)
<19> i know that the server name is right
<19> it works on another comp
<0> mordof, try a different editor?
<6> Madpilot: It's the weekend, eh?
<17> gedit nano work fine with .ini/inf files... they;re plain text files...
<4> maybe has windows end-of-line chars?
<12> yeah, i used gvim.. that works
<0> and the cr/lf issues.
<0> fte is a good editor - that can show all those funky chars. :P
<16> cafuego, the fan is always at high-speed (and I have trouble going to sleep with such noise, sometimes). 19 is the default priority, but I renice it to 0 in order for the centrino to march at full speed.
<12> Dr_Willis, ill keep that in mind :)
<6> lgc: Might be heat, then...
<6> lgc: Install 'lm -sensors' and keep an eye on things.
<10> ChanServ removes channel operator status from Dr_Willis
<1> Well anyway, forget about my friend for now.
<1> I will try to solve his problem later.
<18> back later, all - remember, free klines for exploit kiddies... :P
<16> cafuego, you mean that these things are not made to run full-speed full-time?
<6> lgc: Indeed.
<13> Please help. I replaced Metacity with Expocity and everything is really slow. How can I go back to using metacity?
<10> Bicchi: sudo apt-get install metacity
<4> Bicchi: do you still have metacity installed?
<0> Bicchi, how did you change it in the first place?
<6> lgc: They don't down-shift just to conserve power.
<20> ubuntu limits swap memory to 128mb ?
<8> what could make lsusb not work? it doesnt display anything and its probably related to my cell phone being connected. I disconnected it and lsusb still doesnt work
<6> Bicchi: open a term, run 'metacity -replace'
<6> zezu: No.
<13> I installed expocity following this: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Expocity
<1> meh I;ll just come back to this channel later.
<16> cafuego, sad notice. By the way, what is this "lm -sensors" thing?
<20> mkswap: warning: truncating swap area to 133890k
<20> i wonder why
<13> Dr_Willis: I installed expocity following this: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Expocity
<6> lgc: lm-sensors can monitor hardware monitors on your mobo/cpu/fans for temperature, voltage & fan speed
<0> nice wiki that dont tell you how to Undo it? lol.
<6> zezu: old swap partition in v1 format?
<6> Note the release date on that expocity tarball. January 2004.
<20> cafuego, I doubt it, i made the installer create it
<0> cafuego, lol... :P
<4> Bicchi: how about sudo apt-get install --reinstall metacity ?
<3> OK, I read it but I still dont get the Partitions..
<6> zezu: odd, mine sues 1GB of swap just fine.
<0> cafuego, i think i wil not test it out then
<20> thats how large this partition is
<6> Dr_Willis: Xgl does it built-in (also check 'skippy')
<6> zezu: Maybe try creating a newer version by hand anyway.
<5> iG-Shoot-Me, :)
<5> iG-Shoot-Me, which one did you read?
<6> 'sudo swapoff /dev/partition; sudo mkswap -v1 /dev/partition; sudo swapon /dev/parititon'
<3> http://users.bigpond.net.au/hermanzone/p3.htm
<0> cafuego, heh - skippy just showed up on freshmeat.net when i searched for That other old prog. :P
<3> I got the full version so i could have images
<16> cafuego, I did the installation already. How can I invoke the app? Is it graphical?
<3> :)
