<1> where is dappers menu logo?
<2> Dapper rocks on my laptop, since we're singing praises
<3> amphi, http://pastebin.ca/61411
<0> its not entirely easy to do, but not entirely hard either amphi
<4> ASTX813, MythTV. I think it's a bit more robust, and as far as I can tell, has a large community.
<5> ASTX813, MythTV is excellent
<6> kdean06: yeah I'm impressed, running it on an old sony laptop, it's fast!
<7> nutterpc: yeah, well I'll have to do support, so I was hoping there'd be little need for it
<8> is there a way to customise which services are started on startup?
<0> without someone knowledgeable guiding you, it'd be fine
<9> guys... my sudo isnt working
<10> preglow: hello !!!
<9> does anyone know how to fix it
<11> please help, i have installed the packagge libapache2-mod-php4.. but it does not have mysql support?.. what i need?
<5> preglow, download "BUM" from synaptic

<12> !sudo
<8> mirak: why, hello
<13> rumour has it, sudo is a command that will let users run commands as root. Look at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/RootSudo for all information.
<7> nutterpc: _without_ ?
<4> ubuntu123, Very few distros get GNOME working correctly for me. Suse and Gentoo are the only two, until last night. :-)
<8> skippy81: that was it, thanks
<5> np
<10> preglow: rockbox
<3> dontm, that's what I do.
<8> mirak: i know :)
<14> critical error: i've just installed ubuntu and it ****ed up my mbr ...
<0> amphi, yes.......it seems like a lot if I told you all of it involved, but when you sit back and think about it, its not a lot
<2> MythTV it is. Thanks
<14> my mbr was windows xp, and now it's ****crap, what can i do ?
<6> kdean06: i was impressed it found all the devices/drivers. how does samba work on this? I want to set up ubuntu as a print server in a windows networked environment
<11> please help, i have installed the packagge libapache2-mod-php4.. but it does not have mysql support?.. what i need?
<10> preglow: you can configure that in system settings in gnome
<7> nutterpc: I'm thinking of installing it for a neighbour who is ripe for defenestration ;) I use debian myself
<8> bum
<8> argh
<0> amphi, they would do fine
<15> ubotu tell getit about grub
<4> When importing .ogg files into Rhythmbox, it fails because fo "Unrecognized MIME types". I'm not finding anythign useful on Google, some help please?
<7> nutterpc: cool, thanks for your input
<10> preglow: or you install syvrcconfig, something like that, a command line tool
<14> i dont want to use grub
<16> hi i was looking through my bash_history and i found this command: PROMPT_COMMAND='pwd>&7;kill -STOP $$' <-- what is that, and i didn't write it!
<8> mirak: yeah, tried that once as well
<12> !dualboot
<13> for wintel https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WindowsDualBootHowTo :for the Mac https://wiki.ubuntu.com/YabootConfigurationForMacintoshPowerPCsDualBoot
<14> but my system is ****ed up
<17> DeMoNSeEd,I sent you a message
<8> mirak: the service configuration in gnome is a bit limited
<14> i need to get XP back running
<0> amphi, if you want me to give you an idea about what can be done to dapper to give it a boot in the bum, pm me
<12> !macbook
<13> My cat's name is Mittens! Try searching at http://ubuntu.cc.com.au/, dontm
<4> ubuntu123, I've never used Samba. I have 5 linux machines, and a Mac.
<10> preglow: yeah
<18> Hannibal, so it looks like its software preferences and then synaptic
<19> how long does the xubunutu install take?
<7> luli: sorry, I'll look at your pastebin now
<7> nutterpc: openbox? ;)
<3> amphi, tis all good
<10> kdean06: try smbnetfs with Fuse, it allow to mount a full network on a folder
<14> how can i restore my windows xp MBR without having the installation CD ?!?
<20> MaKkY, come to #gotux, it's a lil quieter, i'll try to help if i can
<21> ompaul: I guess, but it's just not there at all :)
<5> preglow "sysv-rc-conf" is a more 'hardcore' services utility - not as easy to use as BUM
<0> amphi, lol
<19> how long does the xubunutu install take?
<4> getit, You'll need an XP MBR restore disc. You hsould have made one before. There are other ways to restore a still working XP install, if you dual booted and didn't destroy the XP partition.
<0> amphi, its a bit more than that dude ;)
<19> *xubuntu
<8> skippy81: yeah, works fine for me
<0> that's just masochism :P
<14> but i dont have the disc
<22> Does anyone have experience with SIS 190 LAN Interface?
<16> did this message come through recently? i wasn't regged when i wrote it... hi i was looking through my bash_history and i found this command: PROMPT_COMMAND='pwd>&7;kill -STOP $$' <-- what is that, and i didn't write it!
<14> can i d/l an XP MBR RESTORE DSIC and burn it as an image ?
<23> dontm: this might be of some interest: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuOnMac

<14> kdean06 ?
<3> !tell [CC]Impsy about xubuntu
<4> mirak, I don't have anything running Windows. :-) I can already mount filesystems remotly with Linux. :-)
<24> !dri
<13> Did you get hit by a windmill? Try searching at http://ubuntu.cc.com.au/, feg
<25> weeeee got ifolder client and server to work!!!
<19> huh?
<4> getit, DId you try to dual boot Linux and XP, and now can't boot into Windows?
<1> where is dappers menu logo?
<19> i want to known how long it takes to install
<26> halo anyone got ati radeon 8500 to 9500 running on Dapper????
<18> Hannibal, one expected it as it is in 5.10, so now one is rather surprised.
<14> kdean06: no, i told stupid ubuntu to grub-install to /dev/sda7 and it ****ed up the mbr anyhow
<14> i usually let xpx do dual boot to me
<18> !language
<13> Please watch your language. We try to be nice and help but some of us don't like to see such things on our screen.
<5> language lol
<14> but it ****ed up before i could do anything
<3> donfilipo, I think I have 8700
<8> also, after reinstalling graphical boot screen disappeared. any way to get it back? i kinda liked it
<21> ompaul: no, I expect it to be like my other dapper machine. :)
<4> getit, Do you have a working Linux partition?
<26> luli and does it work properly?
<12> Flannel i was looking for info on triple booting macosx, winxppro, ubuntu on a macbookpro mactel (intel chip)
<7> luli: one thing is the interface is not at the correct freq/channel WRT the router
<27> i cannot get the module USB_ZD 1201 to turn off
<18> Hannibal, yeah right
<3> donfilipo, nm. I have 9600
<3> donfilipo, but it's working.
<10> kdean06: I don't have computers on windows as well
<19> i want to known how long it takes to install xubuntu
<7> luli: secondly, I don't think the key is setup correctly, as nothing is shown about it in iwconfig output
<1> Where did the menu logo go? It used to be distributers-logo.png
<10> kdean06: but samba is not used only by windows
<28> [CC]Impsy: depends on the speed of your cd-rom and HD.
<3> amphi, i set the key with "iwconfig eth1 key <key>"
<26> luli 3d acceleration with fglrx drivers...works?
<19> crimsun: lol im installing on 350mhz
<21> ompaul: it's not a terribly big deal because I'm savvy enough to use apt-get or fire up the necessary tools from a terminal, but it seems odd :)
<29> just intsalled drapper drake and the mouse isnt working...any ideas?
<19> sindrum: what kind of mouse?
<7> luli: it should then appear in iwconfig output AFAIK
<4> sindrum, You say the mouse isn't working. What should it do that it isn't?
<7> luli: but the freq/channel is wrong in any case
<19> sindrum: if its a serial mouse i had to manually edit the xorg.conf
<30> http://www.rootshell.be/~edc/bugzilla/ <-- dapper install errors, not filing a bug report, too much trouble, 3rd release now that didnt intall the bootloader correctly, grub failed also, which is why i used lilo
<29> ps2 oipticalmouse
<18> Hannibal, launchpad.net if you want it back or write up a spec for edgy
<1> where is dappers menu logo?
<7> luli: iwlist <iface> freq will give a list of channels and their respective freqs
<3> amphi, channel is fine. I have 11 on the router. something wrong with that?
<21> I am too lazy to write a spec, I believe. :)
<29> ok yeah
<21> and too incapable.
<18> Hannibal, I just got a gnome-app-installer updateto dapper
<31> anybody knows where are the config files of system tray ? :)
<32> does anyone know where do i get dvdrecord package from ?
<7> luli: yeah, but the iface is channel 6
<3> donfilipo, seems too. The GL screensavers work pretty well.
<33> used easyubuntu and works great. java not working for firefox, java and flash both working in konqueror, and quick way to fix
<21> ompaul: yeah, got that earlier today when I did a manual apt-get update; apt-get upgrade
<32> trying to overwrite `/usr/bin/devdump', which is also in package mkisofs
<32> dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)
<21> oh, er, nevermind that last sentence
<29> where is xorg.conf located?
<32> any ideea why do i get this while i try to install dvdrecord ?
<34> How come I end up in here when I join ubuntu+1 ?
<18> Hannibal, join #ubuntu-offtopic if you have further comments, we really are offtopic
<35> cavediver: there is no #ubuntu+1 atm
<32> sindrum /etc/X11
<24> !xchat
<13> xchat is probably http://www.ubuntulinux.org/wiki/XChatHowto http://www.xchat.org/
