<1> lol
<4> Hello! Does anyone know if I there is a way for me to disable one serial port and keep the others? Can I tell the ttyS module what serial ports to use?
<1> thanks a lot
<5> troytroy: I use k3b. it requires kdelibs and so on which you may not want

<5> I'm only here about 12 hours a day
<7> hyphenated: ok does it mean have to switch to kde
<1> ok i will see you around then thanks again!
<5> troytroy: no, it means you have to install a few megs more of libraries
<5> john28: no problem.
<8> bbl
<9> thebr***e, you could disable the serial port from the bios or simply setserial /dev/ttyS[0-9] uart none
<7> hyphenated: ok what is the package name
<10> Any way to compress mp3's to a smaller file size?
<11> +heeellpp I installed Kde full but itwont work, I get display 0 busy error when itry & run from terminal & then log off...

<12> konfuzeDD: lynx
<4> tkup, but there should be a way for me to tell the driver what serial ports tu use shouldn't it?
<13> konfuzeDD: sudo apt-get install lynx
<5> troytroy: go on, I dare ya ;-)
<9> troytroy, just so you can learn how to hunt yourself, use 'apt-cache search put_a_keyword_here_such_as_burner' etc
<9> thebr***e, what driver?
<4> tkup, ttyS
<7> tkup: thanks

<9> thebr***e, ttyS from 0-9 (or more) is a device. so if you want to disable ttyS1 (COM2) you can 'setserial /dev/ttyS1 uart none'
<15> now I have a problem with cyrillics in ubuntu
<16> I'm pretty new to linux and I've forgotten my root p***word. Does anyone know of a way to retrieve this?
<17> _ubuntu_: can you elaborate on the problem?
<18> are the alsaconf packages identical to debian?
<13> cuppa: your root p***word is *your* p***word
<17> cuppa: you probably never set one, ubuntu doesn't use root
<18> i mean
<15> I inserted the serbian layout in "Keyboards" and defined what switch I want to use
<13> !tell cuppa about root
<16> ahh
<18> are the alsa packages identical to that of debian

<19> goodevning guys. Ive tried now for soooooo many hours and cant get my wireless connection to work. I downloaded the driver for the wriless. and i ndiswrapper -i thefile.inf and then i did some weird stuff more with ndisiswrapper it said on a website. good, not the wireless is found but its not connecting!!! and wheni resterat the pc , its gone and i need todo everything again
<4> tkup, ok.. Is there any way I can make sure that my setserial command gets executed before the modules in /etc/modules are loaded?
<16> That confuses permissions up a bit
<9> thebr***e, when you start linux, it creates the files /dev/ttyS0 all the way to /dev/ttySN and then ***ign those files to the real serial ports. It starts with ttyS0 so in your case if you have two serial ports, that would be /dev/ttyS0 and /dev/ttyS1. you can disable any one of those or both as you wish
<11> what Idid is updated the x386 image & graphics using synaptic & now kde wont run when I installed it, can I remove kde without harm & try too e-install again?
<11> re-install*
<16> ahh I see cheers
<9> thebr***e, as long as the serial driver is compiled into the kernel rather than as a module, yes it is possible
<16> although I still am unable to edit a file because of its permissions
<11> _jason is it possible too remove kde & clean cache re-install without crashing system?
<11> cuppa try gksudo natulis

<20> Bambino, hold on...I'll see if you went to the following site: ... ... give a sec
<17> _ubuntu_: describe barely
<9> thebr***e, you would have to put the setserial command in /etc/init.d/setserial_disable and create a symbolic link to it from /etc/rc2.d/S10setserial_disable as such ln -s /etc/init.d/setserial_disable /etc/rc2.d/S10setserial_disable
