<0> there it is
<1> rockviech, ^^^ see above
<2> well I lost complete access to the internet... before it worked out-of-the-box... did the new kernel screw up the settings and I need to reconfigure it?
<1> nope
<3> <Amaranth> hmm never touched it before well at least the progam works now thanks
<1> Xaero_Vincent, which colonel?
<1> heh
<4> thanks arrick and anto9us
<1> np :-
<1> )
<1> :-)
<5> arrick: Ah, but it isn't a resolution thing. This is the same as would happen if the resolution were low, that is, scrolling menu due to little space to display the items of the menu, but it only happens because the images take a little while to load and gnome doesn't seem to calculate the size of the would-be images correctly. Will try to take screenshot next time it happens to explain.
<6> I've got problem with the libcairo2-dev package
<1> ok sorry orn
<2> 2.6.16 isnt officially supported so i added it at my risk but I'm just wondering if I can fix it
<2> or how I can learn to fix it

<0> Xaero_Vincent, boot using a previous kernel?
<5> no problem mate :)
<1> is that dapper?
<1> Xaero_Vincent, ^^
<2> polpak that doesnt work either... it screwed that up too
<2> no its 5.10
<6> libcairo2-dev told me that libcairo2 (= 1.0.4-0ubuntu1) is required but the 1.1.1-0ubuntu1 is meant to be installed
<6> Dapper Flight 5 (after updates)
<0> !dapper
<7> Dapper Drake will be the next release of Ubuntu - due June 1 (see: http://tinyurl.com/qyrkq). Join channel #ubuntu+1 for discussion :)
<1> common_, go to #ubuntu+1 for dapper support
<8> in the terminal i'm typing "sudo smbp***wd -a (username)" and it's coming back with "bash: syntax error near unexpected toke (' " I have obviously tried putting in my computer's username in the (username) space with the same results
<9> what is the difference between apt-get and aptitude, which should i use?
<6> thanks
<2> dapper wont use the latest kernel either.. i want the very latest
<0> DrawLt, try without the ()
<0> Xaero_Vincent, that wasn't for you
<10> apoc, apt-get is command line and what most people use, aptitude is menu driven
<11> DrawLt: get rid of the quotes
<1> DrawLt, hang on, can you paste your error message on pastebin.com and sent the link to it here?
<12> hi... i've installed kubuntu, how can I move to KDE now?
<1> !pastebin
<7> from memory, pastebin is Don't paste here. Pastebin is at http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org, and if you post your text there, it gives you a URL on which your post is accessible to everyone. See also !webboard.
<2> has anyone had my problem before?
<12> hi arrick! :)
<0> swoop, if you installed kubuntu then you're in KDE
<3> how do i open a menu editor for icewm
<1> hey swoop what up?
<9> anto9us and which is better to use? (easier)
<12> arrick, :D remember me? :P
<1> yeah
<12> polpak, no i'm not... i'm in gnome now...
<0> swoop, then you installed ubuntu?
<1> !kde
<8> yeah one sec
<7> rumour has it, kde is A powerful, free desktop environment for UNIX. IRC: #kubuntu #kde ; install from Ubuntu: sudo aptitude install kubuntu-desktop ; ISOs: http://releases.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/breezy/
<12> polpak, someone here gave me the commands to install kubuntu, i've made it, rebooted and still here in gnome
<10> apoc, I find apt-get very easy to use
<0> swoop, oh.. you just need to log out, and change your session
<2> i cannot seem to uninstall the new kernel.
<13> what program can converts better videos?
<0> swoop, on the login screen you can click the down arrow and select a different session
<13> i need * to 3gp
<1> polpak, swoop yu gotta choose kde unde sessions int the signin
<0> Xaero_Vincent, it's pretty complicated
<13> like avi mpg other

<12> polpak, i've tried this, but still no option about KDE
<0> !tell MetaMorfoziS about restricted
<4> anto9us
<4> nothing works -.0
<12> arrick, polpak, there's no option in there :(
<4> im just trying 855resolution
<9> another question: i installed breezy and i dont remember if i made a root account, does the installation make a root acount and a user account or is the first account considered the root acount?
<4> but i cant compile it
<14> Hi, Is there a simple way to upgrade from breezy to dapper using apt, while mentioning that I want all my configuration files to be replaced with the newer version. Basically I want all packages to behave as they are supposed to on a fresh Dapper install
<1> polpak, how does swoop remove the gnu so he goes to terminal by default?
<8> arrick: http://pastebin.com/638405

<9> soundray thanks
<12> arrick, not a bad idea, but, could you please remember how to 'download and install' kde by apt-get and how to remove this?
<12> :)
<13> okay
<13> np
<11> DrawLt: (on the linux machine) command prompt, sudo smbp***wd -a DrawLt
<17> !tell MTecknology about root
<8> *** same error message occurs when there is a space btwn sudo and smbp***wd
<13> but you know any converted?
<17> cool
<4> oh man this ****s -.-
<11> DrawLt: make sure DrawLt account exists on the linux machine
<0> Xaero_Vincent, my suggestion would be to boot a live CD, shrink your partition to make a new partition, copy your home directory there, then reinstall (don't format the new home partition)
<8> I don't use DrawLt on this computer, that is just for the IRC
<8> jon is the only account on my linux machine
<18> hey
<11> DrawLt: (on the linux machine) command prompt, sudo smbp***wd -a jon
<0> DrawLt, then use jon
<10> rockviech, 855resolution is in universe repo
<1> hey DrawLt change it to this 'jon@Jon:~$ sudo smbp***wd -a "yourusernamehere"' except that you need to change your usernem in it without quotes
<8> awwww it's the brackets that had me screwed
<1> like thi
<4> well, so what anto9us?
<4> what to do?
<18> does anyone know why when i type ls -s -h on my terminal it displays the sizes all as 4.0k ?
<1> jon@Jon:~$ sudo smbp***wd -a usename
<8> ... I'm an idiot sorry
<16> how do i mount an iso?
<12> !kubuntu
<0> !tell carthik about dapper
<7> I guess kubuntu is Ubuntu+KDE, (not a fork) ; see http://kubuntu.org and you can go to #kubuntu for KDE-related help, or install from Ubuntu: sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop; ISOs: http://releases.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/breezy/
<1> ScreaminIke, boot with it
<18> arrick would u know why ?
<1> nope
<10> rockviech, sorry 915resolution, sudo apt-get install 915resolution
<14> polpak, thanks, I'd already asked in #ubuntu+1
<18> arrick is there anyway i can update my ls command?
<18> lol
<15> DrawLt: you mistook a syntactic variable for content. Don't chide yourself for it ;)
<18> im sure the file is located somewhere
<1> ask all in general I am toooo neewwww
<4> doesnt find it
<4> anto9us
<18> does anyone know why when i type ls -s -h on my terminal it displays the sizes all as 4.0k ?

<18> when the sizes are actually much smaller and bigger than that
<15> arrick: did you want to pm me?
<0> lali_, are the files in question actually directories?

<7> No idea, try searching at http://ubuntu.cc.com.au/, arrick
<8> well, the username and p***word must be fine now, but when trying to connect from the OS X machine after entering the User/P*** just established, The following error message is displayed "the operation cannot be completed because one or more required items cannot be found. (error code - 43)"
<21> !firestarter
<7> Ubuntu has, like every other linux distribution, firewalling built into the kernel. A simple frontend to this firewall is firestarter, which can be installed via synaptic.
<17> I'm trying to get kororaa to run on my computer and it's not working. I've tried it on a few computers (LiveCD) and it says 'Failed to start X server (your graphical interface). It is likely that it is not set up correctly.'

<21> arrick you are welcome
<20> thanks
