<7> can i install KDE on my already installed Ubuntu system?
<8> im new in linux and wanna know something about it. can anyone help?
<6> apoc: yes, sudo aptitude install kubuntu-desktop
<9> apoc: yes
<10> apoc: apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

<11> thanx
<12> !help
<13> Howdy. Does anyone know what the deal with Rhythmbox is? That is, why can't it import mp3s?
<1> vargha, ask your qiestion and if someone knows the answer they will answer
<5> DrawLt: youre welcome
<6> ubotu: tell orn about mp3
<7> will I be able to uninstall KDE if i dont like it?
<1> yeah
<13> Thanks bro
<6> apoc: yes, but it will be a lot easier if you use aptitude
<7> how will i be able to uninstall KDE if i dont like it?
<6> apoc: sudo aptitude remove kubuntu-desktop
<14> _jason, eh.. I'm not sure that'd do anything
<6> polpak: if he uses aptitude to install it would
<15> apoc: it's pretty easy but it's not just sudo aptitude remove kubuntu-desktop
<16> just remove libarts1c2 and kdelibs4c2
<11> wvelez: sorry to be a pain but i'm not entirely sure how to use this, i've entered it into the terminal but it doesn't tell me any actual p***words, and I don't see how to set it here
<1> _jason, is right this time guys
<0> anto9us, didnt work
<11> i'm obviously not using it in the right way, sorry
<1> !samba
<17> it has been said that samba is https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SettingUpSamba or https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MountWindowsSharesPermanently
<14> arrick, aptitude is different than apt-get ?
<0> i set HorizSync and VertRefresh to 43-100 and DefaultDepth to 16
<1> DrawLt, follow the wiki posted above^^
<0> only the 3 standart resolutions
<7> what do i do if aptitude tells me "this aptitude does not have super cow powers"
<1> polpak, yes
<6> apoc: apt-get moo
<5> DrawLt: sudo smbp***wd -a (username), itll then prompt you for a p***word...just give it any youd like
<3> rockviech, if you know your screen should support it then you need to find the correct timings, meanwhile try depth of 8
<1> polpak, aptitude creates a package that can be later uninstalled at once
<14> arrick, ah.. nice. I'll have to do that more often then
<1> yeah
<7> then what?
<0> well its a new laptop, directx 9 graphics card
<1> polpak, see what you can learn from a newbie?
<0> i think it should at least support depth 32 ;)
<11> ok thanx i'll try it again
<1> polpak, i've only been using ubuntu for 2 weeks now
<14> arrick, indeed. I always just thought aptitude and apt-get were synonimous
<1> nope
<2> Cya, ill come back tomorrow
<13> another question for tyou rascals
<1> ?
<1> !question
<17> NO SPEAKE ENLISH! Try searching at http://ubuntu.cc.com.au/, arrick

<1> orn these were for you
<0> anto9us , found something
<0> gonna try
<13> i gathered as much
<13> i am typing my question up :)
<14> orn, lol
<14> orn, that big eh?
<1> ok
<13> nah.. just trying to keep it to the point and explain thoroughly what it is :)
<3> rockviech, also see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportMachinesLaptopsDell

<14> orn, well, we appreciate it =)
<1> somebody needs to teach the bot how to spell english now,, seems like my typos are pointed out enough
<18> can someone help me !! im crazy!! plus alacarte menu editor crashes befor opening
<19> Is it possible/easy to back up an entire partition onto multiple CDROMs, preserving permissions etc.
<9> ok, let me reask my question. is there some sort of official ubuntu-mysql (or maybe ubuntu-lamp, i'm sure ppl do this all the time) guide ?
<9> inofficial would be fine, too ;)
<20> thanks, _jason !
<21> fart: can you run alacarte from a terminal and pastebin the output?
<1> funkyHat, as long as your arent using the partition, yes
<19> arrick, and it's reliable?
<22> does anyone had problems with firefox 1.5 plugins
<1> if your not using the partition, and the partitions not ntfs yes
<14> !tell Kris__ about lamp
<19> arrick, great :)
<13> Whenever I open menus within gnome, i.e. applications -> games, the images seem to take just a tiny while to load. Anyway, the size of the menu that opens doesn't seem to expect the size of the images, so in effect the menu that opens has a scrolling bar, as if it were too large to display on the screen. If I then (after the images load), close and reopen the same menu, everything is fine because the images have been loaded to memory.
<13> Is this a known problem?
<23> hello, I'm a newbee and want to know how to install flghtgear
<1> !fixres
<17> Please read http://wiki.ubuntu.com/FixVideoResolutionHowto
<18> <21> http://pastebin.com/638383
<24> does anyone have an explanation for why all the videofiles I download on aMule are encrypted? :/
<25> What codecs do I need to play xgl-demo1.xvid.avi
<1> orn^^
<1> !restricted
<17> well, restricted is https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RestrictedFormats Most of the formats listed here can be replaced by !FreeFormats
<26> orn: yup
<1> MTecknology, ^^
<0> anto9us
<0> one thing
<25> aight
<26> orn: the icons can take a while to load the first time, yeah
<0> i have an mounted partition
<0> fat32
<21> fart: ok, run rm ~/.config/menus/settings.menu
<0> and an folder downloads
<1> !enter
<17> Please don't use the "enter" key as punctuation! It spams the channel and is annoying.
<27> I have a problem... I added the the Debian sid repository and download the latest kernel image (2.6.16-686) for Ubuntu Breezy... the kernel installed fine.. but a nasty thing happened... I lost my internet connection. Is there a way I can set that up again?
<21> fart: after that alacarte should work again
<0> how can i give mozilla the rights to save downloads into this folder?
<13> ptlo: It didn't used to be like that though. It only happened after a fairly recent apt-get upgrade
<0> give mozilla root rights
<14> rockviech, don't do that
<1> rockviech, preferences
<11> ok this is probably going to start getting annoying but where do i find sudo
<13> ptlo: the image loading time wouldn't bother me if the menu wouldn't become a scrolling one as a result
<21> rockviech: If you have write access to it then any program you're running does as well.
<3> rockviech, no, you need to set permissions when mounting
<1> in terminal DrawLt
<25> restricted formats wiki doesn't have codecs for xgl-demo1.xvid.avi
<5> DrawLt: just type it at the command prompt
<11> thank you
<14> rockviech, you're better off changing the permissions of the mounted FS.
<22> xaero_vincent: go to system>admin>networking, there you can find everything about connections
<0> how to change the permissions_
<1> !tell DrawLt about sudo
<0> ?
<18> <21> just wondering what is that for that you want me to delet
<1> !firefox
<1> !ff1
<17> Wish I knew. Try searching at http://ubuntu.cc.com.au/, arrick
<13> arrick: the fix resolution was for me? (i am in 1280x1024)
<1> guys help me out here
<14> MTecknology, yes it does. You need the win32 codecs, probably totem-xine at the least
<1> yes
<21> fart: an invalid XML file (did you try to edit it by hand?) that used to contain customizations to the System->Perferences and System->Administration menus
<3> rockviech, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AutomaticallyMountPartitions
<14> !ff15
<25> ok
<17> polpak: Not a clue. Try searching at http://ubuntu.cc.com.au/
<14> !ff1.5
<17> You can use firefox 1.5 by following this wiki page https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FirefoxNewVersion
<1> thanks polpak
