<2> Sashi: aios?
<3> Mr_U, I know, just that two are better than one :)
<4> jadaz87, +x
<4> :P
<3> Mr_U, do you have an Asus board by chance ?
<5> iGotNoTime: True indeed.
<4> you made it 'unexecutable'
<5> iGotNoTime: No, running on a DELL XPS.
<1> dr_willis whoops oh damn :-Z :'_(
<3> kk
<0> all in ones
<2> Sashi: what do you mean?
<6> Sashi, libapache2-mod-php4, php4-common, and php4-cgi
<6> _jason, meta packages

<7> lakcaj, nope didn't work
<2> Sashi: why don't you like them if you don't mind me asking?
<1> dr_willis brb
<6> define "didn't work"
<8> How do i change the console resolution?
<0> i ono
<6> wendain, what type of filesystem is on the HD? Did you try it as root?
<7> mkdir: cannot create directory `tempmount': File exists
<7> well as sudo and it's ext3
<6> you have already made a directory called tempmount?
<3> Mr_U, GRUB seemed to have setup ok? I mean you have both options when you boot?
<6> wendain, mount /dev/hdb tempmount/
<7> hmm I don't know let me look
<3> your MBR with Grub is set properly in the boot sequence of the Bios Mr_U ?
<5> iGotNoTime: When is was installed on the SATA it will just print GRUB and choke. When installed on the EIDE gives the options correctly.
<7> lakcaj, now it wants a file system
<3> excellent :)
<6> wendain, mount /dev/hdb -t ext3 tempmount/
<0> got a problem
<7> mount: mount point tempmount/ does not exist
<0> http://pastebin.com/637119
<1> dr_willis ok i got it to work
<1> dr_willis i have one more qestion
<3> Mr_U, both SATA drives were connected when you installed GRUB?
<5> iGotNoTime: Yes Sir.
<9> okay
<4> jadaz87, and it only took.... :P lol... now as a test.. make ANOTHER that just runs.. lets say.. a game full screen.
<6> wendain, either you have a directory called tempmount or you don't :)
<5> iGotNoTime: Ubuntu installer saw them both nicely too.
<9> so following the instructions, I installed php, apache2 and mysql
<4> jadaz87, and perhaps another that just runs firefox :P
<7> well I don't see one but it's sure saying I do
<9> I subsituted php5 for php4
<6> wendain, are you in the directory where you made the tempmount folder?
<9> and apache isn't recognizing that php is installed
<7> no
<1> how can i clone an xterm window? when i type in xterm into the already existingxterm it brings up another but on the original xterm it look like the command is not finish and i cannot type xterm again to get another xterm
<9> when I view in FF it attempts to download the pages
<3> Mr_U, I didn't read enough to see if there is a solution but here is a link to some with the same problem.... http://www.linuxcompatible.org/Grub_doesnt_kick_in_after_installing_linux_Dual_Boot_t33298.html
<0> anyone help?
<5> iGotNoTime: Going to read. Thanks. Will drop the input here in a few minutes.
<4> jadaz87, now we are back to Linux/BASH fundamentals.. 'job controll' thats what the '&' is all about
<4> jadaz87, try 'xterm &'
<1> dr_willis how
<2> IamEthos: did you try the troubleshooting suggestion?
<1> dr_willis ok
<1> hold on brb
<4> I think its time you go do some reading :P soon....
<10> Can you apt-get dist-upgrade with the Dapper 'positories?
<6> wendain, try this: sudo bash
<6> then this: mkdir /tmp/******** && mount /dev/hdb -t ext3 /tmp/********
<2> IamEthos: specifically, installing libapache2-mod-php4, or libapache2-mod-php5 in your case
<11> lakcaj: watch your language here
<7> ok went to root
<0> http://pastebin.com/637119
<9> _jason: libapache2-mod-php5 is installed
<12> will dapper work w/ my nvidia 7900gt?
<2> IamEthos: does it work now?
<9> if I try to install libapache2-mod-php4, it wants to uninstall php5
<12> i know the nvidia drivers haven't been updated, but i just need good 2d
<13> Hello, I have a quick question. Can xine and gstreamer co-exist?

<1> dr_willis thank you VERY MUCH i will definitely read on your linux bash guide for dummies like jadaz87
<4> google 'bash tutorials' also
<13> When I try to install one, it says the other will be REMOVED. Why is that?
<1> dr_willis ok i willlthank you once again
<4> jadaz87, ya could of just been using the CONSOLE ya know? :P
<7> lakcaj, well this is some wacky crap says file already exist
<5> iGotNoTime: The guy on the forum has a setup close to mine, but his inquire is different. I have 2 SATA (under Windows C: and D:), SATA 1 has Windows XP and boots into Windows, SATA 2 has now Ubuntu and EIDE (E:) has just data. When I choose to install GRUB on SATA 1, it just chokes by printing GRUB and nothing else happens. Of course, I have then to fix the MBR with the Windows Recovery Console.
<9> _jason: nope
<9> I just tried reinstalling it as well
<2> harisund: if you are talking about totem-xine and totem-gstreamer, you can only have one
<9> no dice
<14> what is the website to upgrade to breezy?
<2> IamEthos: try restarting apache
<1> dr_willis i am going to retire i will ttyl Goodnight ;-) hahamaybe
<0> can someone help me with my problem
<9> already did
<5> iGotNoTime: I them choose to install GRUB on the EIDE and picked the EIDE at boot time (on my PC F12) to boot from.
<13> But I can have both right? Just the totem front end can exist for one?
<5> iGotNoTime: That is the only way I could book into Ubuntu.
<15> i finally got this bitch running!!! ahhha
<14> what is the website that gives instructions on how to upgrade to breezy?
<2> IamEthos: strange, don't know then sorry
<3> wait you want the MBR to be on a disk with no OS at all Mr_U ?
<13> _jason, what problem is IamEthos having?
<5> iGotNoTime: I mean, I got it working, I just wondered why GRUB will not boot from the SATA. No, the MBR is on the first disk, with XP in it.
<2> harisund: his browser attempts to download the php pages his apache serves up (apache config problem it seems)
<9> harisund: when I try to view a php file, it attempts to download it
<13> _jason, oh that. Normally, I would do a fresh start. A complete reinstall
<3> Mr_U, I am sorry I am only 5 weeks into ubuntu I wish I could help more :(
<13> IamEthos, _jason: This is quite frequent. I have dealt with this a lot of times at the forums :D
<6> wendain, ok, the short of it is this: You have to create directory to mount the files in. Then, run the mount command as I posted here. The && thing is just to do it all in one shot, which is not working for you for some reason. After you can mount it manually using the mount command, add an entry to /etc/fstab to have it auto mounted at boot.
<9> harisund: you're killing me :-(
<9> ;-)
<3> CAN ANYONE help this guy? it is really technical stuff
<0> can no one help?
<13> IamEthos: No no, trust me. Do you want to try it along?
<13> IamEthos: All you will be doing are 2 simple commands on the command line
<5> iGotNoTime: Not a prob. :) I am quite old on Linux, I just have always used LILO before, no Grub.
<9> 2?
<13> As far as I remember it, yes, 2 commands.
<13> One purge command and one install command, IamEthos
<9> apt-get reinstall apachewhatever
<9> on
<9> *oh
<9> harisund: have at it
<13> Try this: sudo apt-get --purge remove apache2-common
<9> and if you could throw mysql in there too, that'd be great
<7> lakcaj I was thinking about just doing that anyway
<5> iGotNoTime: Thanks for trying to help. Cheers, going to sleep. Good day everyone!
<13> IamEthos, I have not yet started using mysql, but here is what I would do.
<3> Mr_U, best of luck to you and thanks :)
<0> ...
<13> IamEthos, simply do an sudo apt-get --purge of everything you have typed.
<0> http://pastebin.com/637119 << anyone please help?
<13> IamEthos, make sure apache2-common is definitely purged, ok?
<9> okay, purged
<9> it said there was an error removing phpmyadmin
<9> now what, harisund?
<13> IamEthos, also make sure you purge libapache2-mod-auth-mysql mysql-server php4-mysql
<13> IamEthos, we will reconfigure phpMyAdmin, don't worry.
<9> umm
<16> back on xfce, when i put xfdesktop in terminal it's activated but when i close terminal xfdesktop stops working, how do i keep it active?
<9> I'm shooting for php5 here
<13> Yep, We will dp that/
<13> Oh then make it php5-mysql
<0> seriously though.. anyone?
<13> IamEthos, everything purged? Good to go? as new?
<10> wd3: select the session from gdm/kdm/xdm/foodm
<9> yep
<13> Before anything, once again, you did purge apache2-common right?
<9> yep
<13> IamEthos: the apache2-common is very important. Simply purging apache2 basically does nothing.
<17> hi
<9> yeah
