<0> right?
<1> Aesop: is that like Aesop Rock?
<0> k see ya in 15 minutes then
<2> Aesop, Looks to me as if the O_CREAT flag is missing from the open calls. But why that would be ...
<3> that_weasel: No, I get asked that a lot >_<
<3> sethk, Ouch.
<4> Pleuh
<1> Aesop: :D
<3> sethk, ANything I can do to fix that beyong backing up files and reinstalling?
<5> Aesop the childrens fables writer?
<4> Running low on Mt. Dew
<4> ><
<5> authorbleh
<6> funny how things compile with gcc-3.4 better than 4.0...
<3> topaz, Aesop the ancient african-greek that wrote fables, yes.

<7> hmm
<8> Hi, I'm getting 'ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed ...' when I try to connect to my friends computer.
<7> i can only use WPAPSK in infrastructure mode..
<8> I've used ssh for a long time and haven't seen this error before, any ideas?
<2> Aesop, I'd expect to see that when something is tested with one version of the compiler and then built with another version. You aren't building, are you? You are installing packages?
<9> brasko: you aren't authorized
<3> sethk, Yeah.
<7> i must enable it! :)
<2> Aesop, yeah which?
<3> sethk, From Synaptic.
<8> Xenguy: well, he gave me a user and p***word.
<3> sethk, Yes, installing packages from SYnaptic.
<9> brasko: he probably misconfigured
<2> Aesop, that's very odd. everyone should see the same behavior
<8> Xenguy: since when do you need more than that? In fact, I recently setup ssh and connect to it all the time.
<4> Anyone ever use Airsnort?
<8> Xenguy: Yeah, the thing is, he said it didn't ask him any questions during install. I recall differently.
<9> brasko: Think about it
<8> Xenguy: I choose all the default answers though.
<10> brasko, delete the entry from your .ssh/knownhosts and try again
<4> Hold the phone...
<8> anto9us: I deleted .ssh/known_hosts all together.
<8> anto9us: I was surprised to see that the format wasn't ip:key anymore.
<4> Anyone ever try IPod Linux?
<10> brasko, could be a problem at the other end then
<3> sethk, I think I really screwed it, up, but I'm not sure how. I considered a conflict between WINE and CEDEGA, so I uninstalled both (hard uninstall, using root to remove files), and attempted to reinstall WINE. WINE thinks that it's installed fine til I run the WINE command. Attempting to run a program under CEDEGA fails when it can't init the WINESERVER.
<1> Kr4t05: linux os for ipod?
<8> anto9us: It's definatly a problem on his end. I use ssh all the time.
<3> sethk, The initial problem was trying to remove a badly configured program from WINE.
<2> Aesop, it's possible that you ended up with a different set of binaries.
<3> sethk, Hmm. How would I know?
<2> Aesop, unless you have another machine and want to spend a lot of time checking, there is no good way to know
<3> sethk, Crap.... I used apt-get to install WINE the second time around, could that be it?
<10> brasko, do you have a route to his machine?
<8> OK, I asked him to do 'sudo /etc/init.d/ssh restart' and he saw this 'Privilege separation user sshd does not exist'
<2> Aesop, if it pulled a different version, it could be.
<8> that doesn't sound correct to me.
<8> anto9us: good question, I'll check
<3> sethk, Lets see what a synaptic install does for me...
<2> Aesop, try backing it all out and doing the sequence in whatever is considered the "normal" order
<2> Aesop, right
<3> sethk, Will removing it using a 'complete' removal in Synaptic do it well enough, or am I going to be going into root again?
<9> test
<2> Aesop, try the complete removal first.
<3> sethk, Rgr that
<11> how do i get the restricted formats plugins for gstreamer .10 as opposed to .8
<11> or does it matter?
<8> Is it good that I the 'Privilege separation' message is there?
<8> or is that the problem?
<3> I knew 3Tb would come in handy someday...
<3> at least, in handy for something besides rainbow hashes.
<12> Hey all, I need GIMP help: I get this message "PNM: Invalid maximum value" when I try to open a .pnm image file, can someone tell me whats wrong here and how to fix
<9> brasko: privilege separation is supposed to be a 'good thing'
<13> what is the best way to share a partition between ubuntu and osx?
<8> anto9us: unbelievable, traceroute is taking a long time
<13> ext3 or HFSJ filesystem?
<14> Um, yeah. Somethings up with the repository.
<8> the wierd thing is, he's connected to my computer, so maybe he's getting a route 1 way, but I can't go back?
<8> doesn't make much sense to me

<15> anyone can tell me how to add an item to the menu that you get when you right click on the desktop?
<14> I'm trying to switch to the k7 kernel, and it keeps on saying it can't find the "linux-image-2.6.12-10-k7"
<8> anto9us: so to answer your question, no, I guess I don't have a route :(
<14> It being Synaptic.
<10> brasko, ping would be quicker
<10> brasko, but that's not the issue, if he has a router you need to tell it to direct port 22 to his internal ip address
<15> TestDummy, when does it keep saying it? when you actually select the package for installation and hit apply? or is it just not able to find it in the first place?
<8> go figure, ping works fine, but traceroute hangs
<8> yeah, that should be fine.
<3> sethk, Ok, installing WINE from UBUNTU repository now.
<14> Trying to select it for installation, when it tries to grab it off the repository.
<15> TestDummy, hmm... that's strange. have you tried hitting "reload" to refresh your package lists?
<4> Got a one-liner here.
<4> bash: ./doom3-linux-1.3.1302.x86.run: Permission denied
<15> Aesop, haha
<4> Help?
<3> sethk, andd........ same error as before YARG
<14> Not that I know of.
<8> Kr4t05: chmod +x doom3-linux-1.3.1302.x86.run
<10> Kr4t05, chmod +x
<15> Kr4t05, does that file have execute permissions?
<4> Did that
<16> how do i get the program qdvdauthor from the symantec thing-- apt-get qdvdauthor?
<3> sethk, Trying to run wine as root gives me the same.
<8> Kr4t05: ls -al the file for us please.
<4> ?
<2> Aesop, damn
<15> Kr4t05, give the output of ls -al for that file
<3> sethk, Should I just go grab the binaries and try THAT?
<9> Kr4t05: easier, just do 'sudoa-i', then run the executable
<16> sudo apt-get qdvdauthor**??
<9> Kr4t05: easier, just do 'sudo -i', then run the executable
<14> nanotube: Aha! Now it's getting it.
<2> Aesop, sure, try it. what's to lose at this point?
<14> Ouch, 19.5MB >_>
<3> sethk, All my unbacked up files? They're backing up, but even SATA is only so fast...
<8> If my friend ssh's locally to his computer it still doesn't work
<8> gives same error
<15> Kr4t05, open up a terminal, and do 'ls -al doom3*' and give output.
<15> TestDummy, cool! :)
<3> sethk, SCSI*, even. >_< Been working too long as well.
<17> How do I load Java Network Launched Application in linux ?
<10> brasko, some isps block certain ports, maybe that's an issue, you could try mapping another one in his router
<14> Now, if I remember correctly, when kernels are switched around, you have to reinstall video too?
<15> TestDummy, hehe, i hope you have broadmand...
<14> (Using the nvidia driver)
<14> Oh, I do.
<8> ssh xxx@localhost -> ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host
<16> how do i get the program qdvdauthor from the symantec thing, sudo apt-get qdvdauthor? is that right
<15> TestDummy, ehrm... not that i know of. i have updated my kernel several times, and didnt have to screw around with video.
<8> see what i mean, ssh'ing on the same machine isn't working. geez.
<4> ls: doom3-linux-1.3.1302.x86.run: No such file or directory
<15> TestDummy, but i have ati radeon. so maybe nvidia is different, i dont know.
<4> ?
<14> Hm.
<15> Kr4t05, heh, well... do you remember where you put the file?
<14> And doesn't GRUB have to be updated also to reflect the change?
<4> home
<4> My folder
<14> I know there was some little command that checks which kernels are installed and updates it automatically..
<15> TestDummy, no, grub will be updated automatically by the package install. it will add the new kernel to your boot menu.
<4> nanotube, I've got Nautilus looking at it.
<14> Eh?
<15> TestDummy, so you dont have to do it manually...
<15> Kr4t05, hmm... strange.
<1> TestDummy: all of that should be done for you by the package manager
<4> nevermind
<4> I got it.
<16> hello i asked a question twice...
<13> Does ubuntu read and write apple_hfs without corrupting it?
<15> Kr4t05, what was it??
<14> Where is the file for grub anyways, so I can double check?
