<1> or no.. not the non beta
<1> you'l need 2.0
<0> XCHAT is more cool because it does python. ;)
<1> hmm maybe i'l need to specify the path to oRTP then.
<2> Fanskapet: Does installing libortp0-dev help?
<3> Fanskapet: Ah, all right. Something to look forward to.
<4> paganini, there's a small utility to set gtk styles and fonts called gtk-theme-switch: http://packages.ubuntu.com/breezy/x11/gtk-theme-switch
<5> anybody round here know about installing ubuntu on an old g3 mac? i can get it to boot the installer (which is to say, it reads the cd) but then it says "the installation cd couldn't be mounted. this probably means the cd-rom was not in the drive"
<5> kind of bizarre
<6> boot acpi off didnt work
<2> yaaar: Is it an oldworld mac? (ie, a beige one, not an iMac-style one)
<7> Does anyone have any idea why Ubuntu won't autodetect/automount a USB drive?
<8> frodrigu: can you boot?

<5> PuMpErNiCkLe: nope, it's pink
<9> Hi
<9> Hi, what is the correct value for umask to create this permissions, the others, if it's a dir only aply +x, and if it is a file only +r, any idea?
<6> hotplug is still freezing on bootup after the cd gets ejected
<1> PuMpErNiCkLe: no it doesn't.
<2> yaaar: hmm... it _should_ work then
<1> allready tried that one
<1> succeded with the speex library though.
<10> Anyone know how to resize text printed by html2ps?
<10> ?
<7> Does anyone have any idea why Ubuntu won't autodetect/automount a USB drive?
<5> PuMpErNiCkLe: hmm. if i execute a shell after the installer bails out, and try 'mount /dev/hdc /cdrom/' it gives me "no medium found"
<8> jrattner1: ps is what it is. very hard to change
<2> Fanskapet: Then you should probably try this one http://linphone.org/ortp/sources/
<11> topyli, how do i update /etc/fstab
<10> topyli, i just want to increase the font size, for some reason its in like size 6
<7> frodrigu: use VI
<5> PuMpErNiCkLe: is there something special i have to do when burning the disc? i just downloaded the .iso to my (intel) ubuntu box and right-clicked and did 'burn to disc'
<12> popop: X instead of x
<8> frodrigu: just make everything correct
<8> frodrigu: then fix /boot/grub/menu.lst
<13> buenas tardes como estan todos?
<13> alguian habla castellano?
<2> yaaar: So far it sounds like you've done everything correctly.
<2> yaaar: I'll check for bugreports about this...
<14> fiored, ubuntu automounts my usb drives
<7> Hablo espanol
<8> frodrigu: then see the grub-install manual page. that's easy, but crucial :)
<13> perfecto. mira soy nevo usando ubuntu
<15> popop, dir: 711. file: 644. Those give the owner full rights, but restrict everybody else (7=rwx, 6=rw,1=x,4=r)
<14> fiored, is dmesg showing a new device being detected?
<7> anto9us: I know it's supposed to, but it doesn't appear to be doing on mine
<7> yes
<7> yes, detected
<13> y llegue aca de casualidad... hay aulgun canal de ayuda en castellano
<5> PuMpErNiCkLe: while i'm at it, do you know what button(s) one presses to get the imac to boot from cd? i just whacked on most of the special keys on the keyboard while booting, and eventually got it to go...
<7> eltano: en que puedo servirele
<16> eltano: #ubuntu-es
<13> me gustaria poder aprender a configurar mi UBUNTU
<17> !es
<18> Hispanohablantes: Por favor usen #ubuntu-es, #kubuntu-es o #edubuntu-es, alli obtendran mas ayuda.
<2> yaaar: 'c'
<5> neat
<13> ok gracias
<13> comprendo
<19> am sorry for myself guys but ill be useful in the barrios now than in makati if this is the case...ill be seing an innocent Mark...other than Mark Shuttleworth..gtg...SAYANG
<19> <19> ill be prolifirating EDUBUNTU in the barrios rather than going in Makati wondering why were not invited as ubuntu team-ph member.
<9> timfrost if I want, only others perms, if it's a dir only apply +x, if not /file/ +r, is possible?
<20> can someone point me to an understandable document on the difference between .bashrc and .bash_profile?
<3> dsaa: What are you doing?
<17> byteshack, _profile loaded for login shells, rc for other shells
<7> byteshack: I belive .bash_profile loads when you login, .bashrc every time you load a bash shell
<17> (usually _profile does 'source .bashrc')
<8> frodrigu: are you sure you are working on the correct drive now? not on some live-cd's imaginary file system? are you sure you are working on your real linux installation hard drive?
<14> byteshack, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bash
<20> so, basically, don't put much in profile other than source rc?
<7> Does anyone have any idea why Ubuntu won't autodetect/automount a USB drive?
<15> popop, what do you mean by 'only others perms'? If you want to remove all rights for yourself, set the first digit to 0 (001 or 004). But remember that you *lose all access* as soon as you make that change
<14> fiored, can you mount it manually?
<7> How? what device would I use?
<14> fiored, dmesg should tell you

<3> fiored: Probably an sd-something.
<11> topyli, yes, i definitely am. I have two windows partitions, hda2 and hda5. i am in fstab right now, and i changed everything from a to b...but i'm not sure which mount point windows should have so that i can boot to it
<11> topyli, does this make sense?
<11> topyli, right now i made it /media/hda2 and media/hda5
<11> topyli, (those are the mount points)
<9> timfrost it's for apache users, I prefer that apache only read dir if it has +x, but not +r
<7> dmesg just says: Does anyone have any idea why Ubuntu won't autodetect/automount a USB drive?
<21> hehe YAY! look what ubuntu sent me today :D http://gallery.nerdxcore.net/v/headquarters/likesleepingonacloudubuntu.png
<7> oops!
<7> just a sec...
<22> can't seem to get squidguard working in ubuntu anyone else get it?
<5> PuMpErNiCkLe: if i eject and reinsert the cd, then the mount command fails differently. instead of giving 'no media found' it says 'mount: /dev/hdc is write-protected, mounting read-only" twice (which I've never seen...it usually says it once) and then says "mount: Mounting /dev/hdc on /cdrom failed: Invalid argument"
<7> usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 4
<11> topyli, when i try booting into windows, i get a "filesystem type unknown" error
<8> frodrigu: you can worry about windows in fstab later. now just take care you can boot both systems. grub hack time!
<7> Sooooo any idea what device I should use?
<23> ba: thats a lot of cds
<6> omfg, im tierd of having trouble with my eth-card. If i buy a new card that is supported by linux, but is a usb card, will ubuntu auto-detecte it even if its a usb-card?
<11> topyli, what do i have to change in grub?
<14> fiored, could be sda
<1> there we go!
<1> Build with Voice/Video support : yes
<6> Fanskapet: er du norsk?
<21> <23> Its the second shipment they sent me, i got 12 disk sets amonth or two ago and got rid of them fast. i took them to computer shops and stuff
<15> popop, permissions of 711 for directory and 644 for files in the document root should be OK, as long as everything is owned by root. Those permissions ensure that apache can't write anything, but you can update the web site using sudo.
<1> staalea: nej svensk
<2> yaaar: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=114167&highlight=g3+install <--- I'm reading this, it seems to be similar to your situation
<6> Fanskapet: okei;)
<2> yaaar: What's the command you're using to mount it?
<6> Fanskapet: okei;)
<24> !tell staalea about hardware
<6> omfg, im tierd of having trouble with my eth-card. If i buy a new card that is supported by linux, but is a usb card, will ubuntu auto-detecte it even if its a usb-card?
<5> PuMpErNiCkLe: just 'mount /dev/hdc /cdrom'
<7> anto9us: special device sda does not exists
<9> timfrost, ok, what is the way to indicat if it is a dir o file? :)
<7> s/exists/exist/
<24> staalea: and repeating tends to get you /ignored :p
<5> PuMpErNiCkLe: although i've also tried just re-running the installer step "detect and mount cdrom drive"
<14> fiored, could be sdb, or c etc
<23> does resizing an ext3 partition cause any problems?
<8> frodrigu: make sure that /boot/grub/menu.lst has the correct parititions to boot windows and linux. then grub-install to hd(0,0) which is your currently first disk
<25> KillerKiwi2005, possibly
<23> welp: So its not considered safe?
<7> Those devices don't exist either
<9> timfrost, it's possible to aply something like this umask dir=711 file=644 ?
<25> it is possible, but i wouldn't consider any partition resizing "safe"
<26> welp, KillerKiwi2005, I resized mine from PartitionMagic (windows) with no problems.
<26> But this is NOT a recommendation.
<26> Just a sight.
<27> but partition magic and windows are diferent
<25> there's always the chance of it going wrong
<26> I resized my ubuntu partiion from there.
<26> Teranius,
<8> frodrigu: the most difficult part in all this is grub's own idea of partitions. hda1 means hd(0,0) to grub, hda3 would be hd(0,2) and hdb1 would be hd(1,0) and so on
<26> But maybe it wont Always work
<11> topyli, i installed GRUB to the MBR, and everywhere i look this is a major problem...is it fixable?
<26> So don't take my succes as a rule.
<15> popop, I would set the permissions in the filesystem with "find /var/www -type f -exec chmod 644 '{}' \; ; find /var/www -type d -exec chmod 711 '{}' \;"
<28> eh, do any of you know if google is going to work with ubuntu to release their own os?
<2> yaaar: Okay, I have to go eat supper now, but one last suggestion - try 'mount /dev/hdc -t iso9660 -r /cdrom'
<23> ill backup first and give it a go
<15> popop, ***uming that /var/www is the documentroot
<23> dandesuosa: i think its only for internal use
<1> ****
<29> could anyone direct me to a good location for find a printable label for the actual disc of the dvd version of ubuntu?
<2> yaaar: I'll also be back in about 15 minutes, if you/someone haven't solved it yet.
<1> hmm
<28> awww, i would expect something funny from google
<14> fiored, sometimes the are suffixed with a number, could be sda0, sda1 etc
<1> guess the webcam part cannot be compiled on amd64
<8> frodrigu: once the menu.lst is ok, you can reinstall grub to hd(0) or something
<8> wait
