That explkained it perfectly. Have a great night! <1> :) <2> Errr, could someone suggest a simple theme based on the pixmap engine that they know works well? i'm looking to see if this bug is caused by the theme i'm using or if it's a bug in the pixmap engine. <1> *explained. <3> LinuxGurl, yw <4> fiendskull9: I only quieted you for 10 min. <0> tritium, ight. <5> nickrud: sorry <5> nickrud: yes I did try as you suggested <5> apt-get update <0> pastyhermit, are u trying to update repos? or upgrade all the packages <5> fiendskull9: repos <0> pastyhermit, ah, nvm. <3> pastyhermit, please put up on http://pastebin.com/ your /etc/apt/sources.list, if you still cannot get lame <5> fiendskull9: Im trying to get lame installed
<3> fiendskull9, you ever use grip? <0> nickrud, no <6> hey man, thats mine <6> look, we killed the channel. <7> DBO: how it rocking <5> nickrud: http://pastebin.com/633902 <6> dude, someone already tried. <5> Anyone used nexenta in here? <0> !linux <8> it has been said that linux is the kernel (core) of the Ubuntu operating system. Ubuntu is only one version of the GNU/Linux operating system. For more information on Linux in general, visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux <9> Hall folket =) <3> pastyhermit, line 22, add multiverse to the end <0> diffe, english only <0> diffe, :) <10> can someone tell me what this error means? The file 'ubuntu-5.10-install-i386.iso' is not a valid disc image. <7> nickrud: I am ging to do the sarge install after breakfast <3> pastyhermit, with that, the sound juicer thing will work. <3> xstation, you ever use grip? <9> ngon som kan hjllpa mig svara p en frga ??? <7> nickrud: not that I know off could try I suppose <3> nm <5> nickrud: k thanx <0> does anyone know what language diffe is speaking? <3> pastyhermit, I gotta go, but you should be able to get things set up now <10> can someone tell me what this error means? The file 'ubuntu-5.10-install-i386.iso' is not a valid disc image. <10> i downloaded that file from the ubuntu website, why is it invalid? <11> tanuki: sounds like that file is corrupt. Its filename (.iso) suggests it should be a disk image. As a first approximation, check the filesize -- is it about 600 MB? Is it the exact same size as the file on the site from which you downloaded? <0> your cd burn could have gotten corrupted <12> tanuki, did you check the md5sum? <12> after you downloaded the iso <10> how do i do that <12> you're running windows? <10> no <12> what OS? <7> nickrud: as in Grip is a cd-player and cd-ripper <1> I just switched to Ubuntu and now, roughly every couple of minutes my monitor (ViewSonic LCD) flickers black for a second and then comes back normal... <12> tanuki, what operating system are you using? <13> hello people! <1> Anyone have any ideas? <13> LinuxGurl: sorry never had such a problem <10> Modred, ubuntu <12> okay, then there shouldn't be a problem <12> just open a terminal and cd to the directory with the iso <11> LinuxGurl: maybe the screensaver? Check the timeouts in System> Preferences> Screensaver. <14> LinuxGurl: could by your graphics drivers <12> type md5sum whatever-it-is.iso <14> it sometimes does that to me if I run a graphic intensive screensaver <1> Hmmm, I don't think it's the screensaver unless default timer is set pretty fast... <12> it should generate a number that you can compare to the md5sums on the download page (usually at the top of the links to isos) <1> Would a sl;ower refresh rate ***ist or worsen said problem? <7> nickrud: version 3.3.1 is in ubuntu of grip <15> tritium: i was quoting <6> weee, i feel out of place <16> Hi. Is anyone interested in talking about SPAM? This is becoming unbearable. <4> spaps: please refrain from quoting foul language, then <17> LinuxGurl, that is generally not a linux issue, it is usually a physical issue, (A) video card is loose on the mother board (B) video cable is loose (C) power cable is loose, beyond this there are few to no reasons for that to happen, as for refresh rates the way to auto config is this >>sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg<< <18> anyone who can help me with an email parser that extracts email content and inserts to database?
<15> tritium: do you know what the word "spaps" (that you use frequently) mean in a certain language? :) <14> LinuxGurl: You're a genious, I changed my refresh rate from 75 to 60 and no flickering occurs when I run graphic intensive screensaver <4> spaps: drop it <1> ompaul...So type "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" (minus quotes) in terminal..Yes? <1> maskd If you say so... ;) <17> LinuxGurl, and restarting X afterwards (logout login) and also I like to suggest you choose "VESA" as vido card if your getting the wrong card driver but what you talk about does not seem that way <10> Modred, the download page does not give ths checksum, what should i fo? <1> <nods to ompaul> Ok, I'll try that and see if it works. Thanks for the suggestion. <12> tanuki, http://mirror.mcs.anl.gov/pub/ubuntu-iso/CDs/5.10/MD5SUMS has the md5sums for 5.10 <16> Renewing a topic: SPAM and how to obliterate it. <19> Hello <20> hello <12> if you are on the download page, it is linked to at the top of the list of downloadble files (about half way down the page) <21> hi all, how do I update dapper drake to flight 6 with synaptic...Is it 'Edit/Mark all Upgrades' in the menus?? <19> This is I first use ubuntu <19> I come from China <12> tanuki, the number generated by running md5sum on your iso should be the same as the number next to the same iso on that page <12> if they're different, your download was corrupted <12> if they're the same, it's something in your burner, most likely <10> Modred, there are no numbers on the download page, can you help me find one <14> ubuntu: #ubuntu-zh <12> it's linked to from the download page, but here's for i386 <12> 126751a2dc5528c2f9044d9e4ee36d61 ubuntu-5.10-install-i386.iso <12> that is the iso you downloaded, right? <10> yes <19> yes <12> if so, that number should match what you got from running md5sum on the iso <16> Who here speaks Forth? <10> Modred, yes the number does match, so why can't i buyrn it? <12> well, now we know your download wasn't corrupted, so it might be a software issue with whatever you're using to burn? <12> getting out of my realm of knowledge <10> i was using nautilus, should i use something elsE? <11> tanuki, Modred: that's a long number. Are you *sure* it's identical? <22> How do I get the new software packages to actually show up in the pull-down menus? <11> mike__: are these GUI packages? <10> ic56, its the same <22> Not sure, working on antivirus packages. <22> Says downloaded, but they never show up in the pul-down menus. Using packet manager. <11> tanuki: I can't think of why a valid ISO image wouldn't be recognized. sorry. <14> mm, is there anyone to tell the update manger to "ignore" certain packages? <11> mike__: if these packages contain command line utilities, they won't show up in GUI menus, for obvious reasons. <22> How do I make that happen? <14> i downloaded gaim2.0 from the official site and alien'd the rpm, and it installed all fine, but now it wants to "update" 2.0 with 1.5 that comes with ubuntu <23> hi all <11> mike__: you could write a wrapper to run the apps in inside a terminal. I can show you how to do that but I've never added something to the menus. <23> i am on dapper flight5, how do i get the sun-jdk ? <23> i have all dapper repositories enabled <24> freakabcd: sun java is not in repositories. for dapper help, join #ubuntu+1 <22> ic56 thanks. I am adding programs from the repository but after that, I seen no way to access them. <23> dabaR, thanks. will ask in #ubuntu+1 <23> !javadebs <16> OK. I have Ubuntu 5.10 ("Breezy Badger") running. Would someone clue me in on the next release and explain the silly name? <24> !dapper <8> Dapper Drake will be the next release of Ubuntu - due June 1 (see: http://tinyurl.com/qyrkq). Join channel #ubuntu+1 for discussion :) <24> http://wiki.ubuntu.com/MarkShuttleworth for naming <25> whats the best binary newsreader for linux, and please dont say pan <26> hi there <27> pan <25> pan ****s <26> just a quick question, what is the best mobile to use with ubuntu? <27> check synaptic <25> you cant read the complete header with pan <24> mavric2001: best is one that fits your needs. your package manager may have suggestions. I also like pan. <27> for any binary readers <27> or whatever <25> pan locks up on large header groups <25> pan font doesnt allow you to read the complete header <16> mavric2001: Still the best newsreader is 'tin', especially if you read very heavily trafficked groups. <25> tin, yep ive seen that one referenced, is it command line or gui? <28> Morning all, what's a good gui graphic encorder, editor, dvd authoring tool? <24> THere is kino, a KDE app. <28> I"m using gnome <27> <24> THere is kino, a KDE app. <29> im guessing the forum colours are april fools joke?
