<0> And its working but its going slow <1> computer spec <0> Like moving a window its all messed up <2> this is an article on suse 9.3 actually from the Linux Magazine - (www.linux-magazine.com) - June 2005 issue... page 47 says "According to Novell, creating a seperate Ext2 or Ext3 partition for /boot improves the speed of the suspend process. This said, after following Novell's advice, we did not notice any difference in our testing.".... <0> But i have a nvidia gfx card and i installed the driver from YOU and im not sure what to do now <0> Like shouldnt it have auto done it <2> so I apologise, its not from Novells site, heh... i just remembered where I got it from <3> What do I use to maintain contacts within a group? Yahoo groups? Any other suggestion? Additional functionality over a mailing list is welcome. It could be a public web service or something to install on my router... <3> "my router" == suse box <4> God_HollyWood, try installing the driver with you online again <0> i need to do it twice? <4> not normaly no <0> Well uhh <5> !nvidia <6> If you are not using YOU - Yast Online Update to setup your card, read carefully: http://www.suse.de/~sndirsch/nvidia-installer-HOWTO.html <5> God_HollyWood: try the manual install
<0> Would rather not use something like taht <7> hrm im actually starting to like yast now... <8> does suse have DMIX? <2> yast rocks :P <4> I have had you fail on me, but reinstalling the driver with you worked -> reboot afterwards <0> its showing up in hardware info <7> anyone played with compiz and xgl yet? <8> hey all <8> does suse have the alsa program dmix <0> where do i turn on 3d accell <9> !xgl <6> For XGL instructions go here: http://en.opensuse.org/Xgl : You need 10.1 beta 3 or newer <5> enterusername: yes dmix is configured automatically. but dmix is not a _program_ <2> sPiN: http://www.linux-magazine.com/issue/55/Suse_Linux_93_Review.pdf <4> God_HollyWood, if you driverinstall works, 3d is autostarted <10> What suse really does differently as other distros with USB2, i thought i solved my USB2 harddrive problem by disablin acpi and apm but now. Again everytime when i open /media/ harddrives starts reading about 10-15 seconds and then i can see DVDRAM & LACIE & LACIE disks. Then if i open other USB drives it takes again 10-15 seconds to show what's inside it. And if i go back it takes again same time. Now im downloading files from webpage and kdialog ask wh <10> "save to disk" and suse starts readin 10-15 seconds those USB drives, after that kdialog opens and it shows (as it should) user directory. Everytime when i choose to save something it starts reading those drives.... why suse ****s on this simple task? <6> No, I disagree, Fri13- is the one that is the ****. <7> ahhh beta 10.1 <7> time to format a box to play :P <2> spin: pg 47, above "Conclusions". <9> thanks four86 <0> Hello <0> i tried the YOU thing again and it still is going slow <10> Hmm... mayby my problem is that suse "finds" my USB2 harddrive again and again when ever i open any filemanager what like to check fstab/mtab. Like kfiledialog, amarok, yast, digikam etc. <11> For XGL instructions go here: http://en.opensuse.org/Xgl : You need 10.1 beta 3 or newer == WRONG! <11> I'm running it on 10.0 right now --- *drool* <12> will XGL come with suse 10.1 final? <11> I reckon it will.... others disagree <13> wal: it works? <12> looks nice and juicy <11> They appear to be delaying Beta and RC releases in order to incorporate Xgl and compiz <11> You bet <13> wal: Is it hard to get it working? (newb.) <11> You are all spinning around in 3d on y desktop right now! <13> wal: What gfx card you have <9> i think the delay is due to the new package management <11> Hard? For a newbie it might be - I had already upgraded to KDE 3.5 using YAST. I have an Nvidia card. Try this link for guidance - I followed the instrucvtions to the letter and it worked immediately. http://en.opensuse.org/Using_Xgl_on_SUSE_Linux <11> Hairulfr, take note of the section saying version 10.0 & less <14> 10.1 beta 5 was out today I think <13> wal: n1, thank you. I've already looked at it, but ppl told me it wouldnt work.. <13> I have kde 3.5 as well <11> The only thing I've lost is window decorations, as they are yet to release a KDE_window_decorations manager <9> wal, you are on 10.0? <11> 10.0 yes <9> and you got xgl going huh? xorg 6.9? <0> can anyone tell me why my computer is going extreamly slow? <13> God_HollyWood: No... :/ <0> I just installed suse 10 and i have the nvidia driver all installed and its still slow <13> God_HollyWood: What comp you have <0> dell <0> dimension 3000 <13> Sakuya: My friend just had one removed...It was a cyst <1> o.o <13> Sakuya: It was full of puss and all kinds of nasty ****, the doctor punctured it and the intern almost puked... But it wasn't malignant or anything <1> it forms in one night? <1> pretty sure it wasnt there last night lol <13> Sakuya: Where on your neck <0> Anyone be able to help me? <1> just at the jaw joint
<0> Im betting i dont have a good enough computer to run 10.0 <13> Sakuya: Ok, that is probably normal, those are glands, and they swell up during infections/illness - so that might be it, <15> god_hollywood: are you running gnome? <0> No <0> KDE <15> did you install EVERYTHING off the CD's? <0> no lol <15> do a "top" and see what's running <0> and post where? <13> Sakuya: Hehe, it just now a lot of usefull crap <1> Hairulfr, i have no illness/infection right now.. or i have one that i cant tell.. <15> post?? <9> swollen glands are common when it comes to pending sickness <13> Sakuya: You might be getting ill, ? It is probably that, mine swell as well, and if it came overnight... <1> hahaha <1> http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e5/compunerd92/pic29022.gif <0> aergern, <0> erg <0> aeRoSoL, <11> KDE 3.5 + Xorg 6.8.2 + Suse 10.0 + Nvidia 6600GT +Compiz + Xgl = goodness <1> bah i dont really care <0> i have stuff like <0> 11058 root 15 0 27716 18m 3904 S 9.0 3.6 1:00.84 X <0> 11446 colin 15 0 28812 14m 11m S 2.3 2.8 0:00.82 konsole <0> 11233 colin 15 0 44884 15m 11m S 0.3 3.1 0:06.95 xchat <0> 1 root 16 0 692 268 224 S 0.0 0.1 0:01.31 init <13> Anyone know how to get RSS feed working in FF? My processor shoots up to 100, and dies... <16> Is there a mechanism to fix this? Does anyone know anything about LVM's? <17> anybody got a smb/win32 box around? <18> ohgood: I do <18> winxp <18> and its on my network via smb <19> to be able to go on the net what port my girl friend need to let open on her router? <15> marccollin: 80 for web <16> that's for incoming though <18> 80 for httpd....and thats usually open already <16> Well, for cretating new connections.... <18> not usually closed by default <19> ok thanks i will say it tomorrow..... surely open...... but i think her router open all port by default.... <9> !xgl <6> For XGL instructions go here: http://en.opensuse.org/Xgl : You need 10.1 beta 3 or newer <20> marccollin: thats not a very good idea though with a win box behind i believe
