<0> hey all <1> 6.8 <1> its been like this since i ran the updates a little while ago <1> http://www.ccat.co.nz/special/weird2.jpg <1> more weirdness <1> thats in the window config <1> everything seems to be randomly coloured. <1> the kde bar has changed with the update too. note the dividers are little high res bar thingies <1> in the last update i got they were just invisible <2> Does suse come with java support? <1> if you get teh eval or full version, otherwise its just a source you add and it does <1> !java <3> Add this to your installation sources to get java on Suse 10: http://suse.mirrors.tds.net/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.0-OSS/inst-source-java/ <2> Thanks = ) <1> np <1> any ideas sPiN ?
<4> nope <1> hmm. might have a look through yast <5> Navi00: note that you should use another mirror than tds.net if you're not in the US <1> cant see how to turn it on or off or even what it would be called. <5> lilyt: hmm... well, SUSE 10.0 includes a kernel with Xen support <5> lilyt: so I guess the easiest way would be to make a SUSE 10.0 installation into another partition <5> lilyt: and make sure to install the "kernel-xen" package <5> lilyt: you can still add it after the installation though <5> lilyt: and for the rest, well, it's Xen magic <6> anybody familiar with the feature in yast that allows you to take screenshots during installation? Can I take a full screen shot when there's a small window popped up, i.e. "put in cd3" <4> cb400f, i use vmware for that <5> cb400f: easiest option for making screenshots is installing through SSH+X on a remote host ;)) <1> oh hangon, is there some sort of accessability tool in suse ? its dotted all the group panels with red. <5> cb400f: or through VNC, if the other PC is on cra^H^H^Hwindows <1> looks like its made for someoen to read who's blind. <6> yaloki: nah.. this is real easy.. press print screen > save to floppy mounted from terminal <5> |rbnz_64|: nothing particular on SUSE, would rather be on KDE or GNOME <1> right. so yast then ? <5> cb400f: oh, ok, didn't know that feature <5> |rbnz_64|: no, totally not yast <5> |rbnz_64|: KDE control center <5> |rbnz_64|: (if you're using KDE) <5> there are also a few accessibility settings in X <1> hmmm. dunno how to get into that, just opens yast <5> dunno what they are though <5> |rbnz_64|: you're using KDE, right ? or is it GNOME ? <6> yaloki, sPiN worked like a charm.. only one problem .. with the shots where there's a popup-window.. guess there's a way around it.. perhaps alt+prt sc .. but noticed too late.. Beineri hooked me up with this how-to http://www.suse.de/~sh/yast2/screen-shots/ <5> you could have a look in yast2 -> hardware -> graphics... to review the accessibility settings of X, but my guess would rather go with KDE or GNOME, not X itself <5> cb400f: good one, thanks for the link <6> yaloki: np, it's neat stuff <7> heh. it wasn't in gnome. switched back to kde and its ****ed. <8> yaloci, thanks but i was wondering if i can something else from qemu maybe? <7> have just turned off the machine. man i hate bugs <7> in gnome it was fine. <7> like the new startup sound too <7> ...havent used gnome in bloody ages <7> maybe its time i switched <7> at least theres no anoying highlighting <5> lilyt: qemu would be an option too, but it's really slow <8> i dont want to install every distro with i want to 'play' on a physical disk.and iwas wondering if i can do this from inside my distro. <5> no, unfortunately not (except with vmware or qemu) <4> www.osdir.com has a nice ***ortment of screenshots of many distros <8> vmware images is compatible with xen or ihave to make something else?can i install it to my disk image ? <6> sPiN, lilyt check out www.linclips.com too - for swf-demonstrations of many distros <4> very nice <8> i will but ithink that it will like scratching wounds.i want to say that if i can create xen image throu vmware to my physical partition. <8> sorry about my english. <7> lol. well, got rid of the colours by messing with "styles". now every hotkey has a "(!)" infront of it <9> nn <10> nn <11> my burner only burns cds at 4x even though it is a 24x and I have 1gb of ram, how do I speed that up? <4> S330d3r, try enabling dma mode <4> yast - hardware - ide dma mode <12> hello i have set up suse to use a static ip on my home network...but now that it has a static ip it no longer sees the wan( i cant ping google or any website) but if i go back to dhcp it works....i thought it could be a lack of nameservers but even after adding them i sill cant ping anything outside my lan..does anyone have any ideas? <12> its not a huge deal if i cant set up a static ip...but dont see why it would work <4> SpAwN, sounds like you are improperly setting up that static ip <4> why not have your router ***ign it a static ip based on its mac address <12> i set the ip it uses(which it can use) and set the subnet mask <12> sPiN: i dont think my router can <11> sPiN, it is set for UltraDMA/33 <4> S330d3r, well thats what you want
<12> i asked linksys and they just told me to set it up like i did <4> SpAwN, look into upgrading your router firmware and check again <11> sPiN, yea, but it is burning at 4x <4> chances are pretty good that you can <1> well its kinda working i guess, the only place the "(!)"'s show up is in the main suse menu <12> ahh yea i do have the newest fireware for my router <4> S330d3r, well you got other problems then, and ive never had that problem so i cant help you further <12> it is a old router though <4> SpAwN, if you cant get a static ip from the router, then try to set it up again with suse and be sure to point it to your dns/gateway <12> the way i set it up has worked b4 on my mandriva linux and with windows <12> sPiN: in the network config that suse uses it never asked for my gateway <12> but it still did connect and get the static ip <12> it only asked for the ip and sub net mask <4> network services - dns and hostnames <12> ahh k so i should make one of the dns ips my routers gateway?? <13> is there anyway to get my router to recive wireless signals instead of send them? <1> lol. bzflag is bizarre <12> hmm very weird....ive got the static ip.....ive added a bunch of ns's and it still doesnt see the wan(even if i use actual ip #'s instead of hostnames) i guess ill just have to use dhcp still <14> anyone suggest where to get help on phpMyAdmin install? <14> suse 9.2 pro <8> goodnight and help for your help. <15> Hi guys, I'm having trouble booting SuSE. When I try to boot it normally, it displays about 7 lines of text and the screen goes black. I can boot to "safe mode" and startx from there. A wiki suggests that I have a misconfigured X. I made proper adjustments in sax2 to get startx working, but it still won't boot in normal mode. Any ideas? <6> whelp: where exactly does it freeze? did it work before and stopped working? <15> It did not work before. When I select SuSE 10 from Grub, it starts booting (displays about 7 lines of text), then the screen goes black. <6> what's the last line of text? .. you don't have time to make it out? <15> It goes by very fast.. do you know of a way I can freeze the text so I can read it? <6> whelp: maybe it's logged somewhere.. not really sure.. is it a laptop or other peculiar hardware? <15> yeah, it's a toshiba satellite A75-s206 laptop <15> Looks like the 2nd to last line includes /boot/initrd <16> Hey guys. I'm curious. How often does OpenSuSE release new distributions? <15> (before it goes black) <6> Psi-Jack: every 6 months <16> Every 6 months? Just like the ubuntu guys do, eh? Cool. <17> april 6th is 6months after 10.0 <6> whelp: must be some hardware issue.. some hw that isn't probed in failsafe-mode <15> When I make changes with sax2 and click "save", it says the changes will take effect when I restart the graphics system. Does it forget the changes when I reboot the hardware? <6> whelp: can't be xorg.conf that early <15> oh yeah, is there a way to boot into run level 3? <6> Psi-Jack: SuSE came out 6-monthly way before anybody ever thought about Ubuntu.. <18> cb400f: how do you update every six months? do you have to burn another cd, or can you do the equivalent of a dist-upgrade? <16> cb400f: Heh. Well, I haven't looked much at SuSE in general for many many... /MANY/ years. <6> Hobbsee: only safe way is fresh install <18> can you do it another way? <18> but yeah, only safe way ever is a fresh install - i learned that one the hard way lol <16> Hmmm. <16> Upgrading distribution versions is still a pain in the arse? :/ <17> no its easy, but most of dont recommend doing it <17> fresh is always better <16> Fresh is /never/ better. <18> yes, but how do you do it? hypothetically <16> I mean, if I wanted to "freshly install" a new version of the entire operating system, I'd friggen use Windows. :/ <19> 'fresh windows install' is an oxy moron <15> lol <16> celerex: Exactly. <20> !Dns <3> Rumour has it Dns is slow <20> !Bind <18> !help <3> Hobbsee: Sorry, the output is too long! Private messaging it to you! <6> Psi-Jack: can't have a heavily developed distro and a safe way to distupgrade.. <20> !help <3> storm: Sorry, the output is too long! Private messaging it to you! <20> !Dns server <20> !dns <3> Rumour has it dns is slow <19> i know i should be asking in openSUSE and i have, but anyone gotten XGL running using Nvidia cards? I keep getting 'GLXBadDrawbale' <20> is there a command for susehelp for dns? <19> i have followed pretty much every guide i can find, ensuring DIR and GLCore are disabled, and GLXWithComposite is set to no.. <6> celerex: do the guides say set glxwithcomposite to "no"? <19> pretty much everyone of them yeah, there was one that didn't but i can't find it <19> it also has no affect, i get the same thing <21> Howdy, folks! <22> hey
