<0> What of suse watcher? <1> Ancient1: thanks to aka_druid_ :)) i just did a script kiddie thing ;) <1> Chetwin: what did suse watcher do ? <0> Check for updates <0> Like zen now <1> Chetwin: well, there is already an app for it <1> some novell watcher or summat <2> rohan: I really think we NEED a Suse Portal with searchable links, solutions, guides, STATUS of release etc , where its possible to "digg" any item, edit it, etc <3> anyone know howto switch to kdm windows manager from the minimal install fvwm mngr please? <3> login screen is so lean seems noway to do the only way ive known.. in login screen. <3> dont recall desktop gui way <1> Ancient1: i agree :-/ <3> and no luck in bash or google <2> tech9iner: go sleep <1> lol <1> oh well, gotta leave ..
<1> bye all \o/ <3> Ancient1 .. catchon mate.. got major deadlines am .. no choice.. gotta finish this install tonite <2> tech9iner: in 10.0 i could choose many win.mgr in the "end session - start anew" screen <3> not here.. not in fvsm <3> ggggggggrrrrrrrrr <3> f v w m <3> dammit <2> u could try init 3 ? startX ?? <3> there that rings a foggy bell.. lmao.. tx Ancient1 <3> its wy i layout the big bux for ye mate <3> ;] <2> heh , and I'm only 5 weeks in linux <4> hrm, installed ati fglrx drivers and my fps just ****s <2> I use nvidia .. Gumbyno :) <5> Ugh. NVidia. Those the the chips in my problematic motherboard. <2> marcusU: its not problematic mobo. I'm pretty well certain, but don't know. <2> marcusU: be sure to check the mobo page on Gigabyte site for any new bios, faq etc <5> Ancient1: Well, I haven't figured out how to make it work. And I did look in the manual. It does not use jumpers. At least not jumpers in the sense of pins that are shorted together to achieve a certain configuration effect. <5> The manual refers to pins like those you hook up to the case's LEDs as "jumpers." <2> marcusU: I was talking about jumpers on the CDROM. hardly any new mobo uses jumpers <5> Oh, I don't think that jumpers on the CDROM are the problem. I really think it's the motherboard incompatibility with SUSE. Unfortunately, SUSE 9.3 is totally incompatible with this hardware, so i can't try that. <6> hm ... <2> marcusU: its a matter of digesting at night what u did and should be tried etc .. <6> I need a proper 5.1 Dolby Surround Set, suggestions? <5> I'm pretty sure that i exhausted all the possibilities. It's just not compatible. <2> marcusU: if the cdro is jumpered as single and there's a 2nd one - problems can arise. etc .. <2> marcusU: "It's just not compatible." means a KNOWN ISSUE , repeatable for everyone <5> Ancient1: There's only one CDROM on both systems. <2> marcusU: same IDE ? <5> Ancient1: You're welcome to come over and repeat it. I'll even provide lunch. <5> Same IDE? <2> marcusU: example. if I disable 1st IDE channel (for setup HDD letter issue) , the CDROM (on IDE2) should behave normal . but it doesn't . <7> hi all <5> On the black box, the CDROM is on the first IDE channel (shows up as /dev/hda) and the hard drive is on SATA (shows up as /dev/sda). <5> On the white box, the CDROM is on the first IDE channel (as /dev/hda) and the hard drives are on /dev/sda, /dev/sdb/ dev/sdc (all SCSI devices). <2> marcusU: don't you know what IDE is ? EIDE ? 2 HDD connectors on board , 2 cables, max 4 drives ? it is IMPORTANT where to connect on the cable itself ( connector color) <5> Where did that come from? <4> does anyone here have xgl+compiz working in 10.1? I am reading the howto @ http://en.opensuse.org/Using_Xgl_on_SUSE_Linux and it tells me to do the following... <2> marcusU: plain jane PATA , ATA66-100-133 . the cable has connectors colored blue , black, grey <4> In order to use Xgl, change the sysconfig variable <4> DISPLAYMANAGER_XSERVER <4> in <4> /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager <4> to <4> "Xgl" <4> oops, sorry. <4> damn tables <5> Ancient1: I know what IDE is (unfortunate that the term might be). <4> anyhow, unfortunately my /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager doesnt have a "DISPLAYMANAGER_XSERVER" line in it. <4> anyone have any ideas? <2> Gumby: backup and add the line ? <2> brb <2> marcusU: it can happen that one repeats same mistake again and again. thx for the lunch .. where are u ? <5> 15 miles south of Houston, Texas. <8> yaay its gumby <2> marcusU: oh .. houston we have a problem , eh ? ;) <2> marcusU: it''ll take me few weeks to get there.. israel , visa , etc etc :) <5> Okay. I work evenings. So I can take you around the city during the day. <9> suse 10.1 look ugly during the boot process :( <6> butters: use another splash screen?
<6> wtf is an "AV Receiver" :S <9> does it not support splash screen? <5> butters: I agree. <9> Celestar: currently, i don't have any splashscreen <9> Celestar: how do i enable it? <6> butters: good Q :) <9> my guess is something should be modified in grub menu.lst file <10> it's in the KDE Control Center.. <9> i can't find it in kde control center <2> back <9> is there some package i should install? <10> Under Look an Feel settings.. i'm not on my SUSE machine but i saw it there.. <2> what is the diff between a tar.bz2 and tar.gz files ? <2> what is the diff between a tar.bz2 and tar.gz files ? <11> Compressor. <11> bz2 = bzip, gz = gzip. <11> bzip2, to be precise. <12> http://www.unixguide.net/linux/faq/08.04.shtml <12> google is your friend :) <2> daPhoenix: thnx . what is the diff between them ? <2> Hoki_Workin: have to concentrate on what i need to do .. <10> is there a widget to integrate google calendar to KDE? <13> I've just moved to suse 10.1 and have a strange problem with keyboard layouts which worked fine on suse 10. I add a kbd bulgarian layout using KDE Control Center (works fine on 10), and use a phonetic variant for it (bds is default), then i update my switch policy to be application. But if i switch to an bg layout window from us I get the bds variant (not the phonetic). After i switch several time the layout I finally get the phonetic one... <2> no idea , to both of u . sorry <10> oh, i found it.. but it is still under future projects.. <10> http://wiki.kde.org/tiki-index.php?page=KDE%20Google%20SoC%202006%20ideas <11> Ancient1: Compression ratio. <11> Ancient1: BZip usually produces smaller packages. <2> daPhoenix: ahh.. thx. btw, do u have gkrellm installed ? <11> Nope. <2> supid Virgin radio .. all those british commercials .. <14> dimi3: why dont you report a bug, sounds like u found one <13> bulent: ok <13> bulent: cause it behaves the same way if I try some german layouts, <15> hello all <15> i have one question <2> hi <15> can i use some free online update if i have sles x86_64 <15> 9.3 <15> ? <15> or account only? <14> Antixrict: SLES 9.3 that does not exist <14> SLES is account only anyway <15> ou <15> ok <2> i don't know for sure. I don't think it has anything to do with account or registered ver at all. <2> why not try ? <15> because i have problem with glibc :( <15> and i can't use cd <14> SLES has to be paid for , suse has to make some money to survive right <15> bulent maybe you know how i can find glibc2.3-98.28? <14> Antixrict: of course you can install any package you like but you will loose the certifications <15> glibc 2.3.3-98.28 <2> !packman <16> Ancient1: Error looking up results <15> !packman glibc <16> Antixrict: No Results Found <15> bulent i know <2> !yast-sources <16> For more information about YaST sources and how to add them, check http://susewiki.apanela.com/goodlinks:yast_sources or http://wiki.suselinuxsupport.de/wikka.php?wakka=HowToAddReposandSoftwarewithYastcli * Make sure to only refresh sources that will actually change, as depicted in this screenshot: http://spinink.net/images/screens/yast.jpg <14> Antixrict: sorry just wanted to warn :) <15> bulent :) thx <2> bulent etchevitt ? <15> but anyway me need thi glibc <15> this <14> Ancient1: 1 am younger <2> :) , but turkish , right ? <14> right <2> :) <2> israel <14> same time zone :) <2> hehe <14> gotha go, have a flight to catch <17> jo
