<0> Some like it more then others...
<1> wickers, I reverted too, KDE too?
<0> Yeah, I was using KDE... the menu and fade effects were so hard to let go, but as my card does not support FBO or pBuffers it makes 3D, and most other things run poorly.
<0> Full screen video was a joke..
<2> what kernel version has suse 10.1 ?
<0> oh, which reminds me...
<1> wickers, well, mine worked fine, except for all the bugs
<1> :D
<1> gemidjy, 2.6.16
<0> I'm using intel extreme graphics..
<2> thanks
<3> "Xgl is enabled. However, it is not configured with the options that are recommended for your video card." how do i know what are the options i need
<4> 2.6.16.13-4
<1> sPiN, to late for him ;)
<0> sPiN: could you dcc me your /var/X11R6/bin/X file please?
<0> or would reinstalling xorg do the trick?

<0> i just need that one file.
<3> lets see if im done now
<0> from a non-Xgl 10.1 system.
<4> wickers how did you **** that up?
<5> rpm -U --oldpackage xorg-x11-server-*.rpm
<6> Greetings all, I have a few, perhaps silly/stupid, questions about SuSE/OpenSUSE 10.1. It appears that 10.1 is the new release, but on the mirror I use (mirrors.kernel.org) the symlink for "stable" has not been updated. Is 10.0 still the "stable" release and 10.1 "current", meaning not for production use?
<0> sPiN: doing the Xgl thing involves deleting that file and simlinking an Xgl bin to it's place.
<4> !mirrors
<7> For inst-sources: < http://www.opensuse.org/Mirrors_Released_Version >. For ISOs: http://www.novell.com/products/suselinux/downloads/ftp/mirrors_isos.html
<4> cblack0: grab one
<8> I don't think I saw any resonses to my RAID questions, did I miss one?
<4> wickers: no it doesnt!
<0> the Novell howto said to do it... but thinking back I should have just moved it to a .bak file.
<4> wickers: where did you get that info? someone needs to be smacked or a website needs to be corrected
<0> sPiN: yes, it does, it should say to rename it, not delete it.
<4> wickers: no... it doesnt
<0> But I was like *XglXglXglDrool!!!*
<0> so I did not think ahead.
<0> :(
<4> ive ran xgl on ati and nvidia, it does not require that
<4> you got bad info.
<0> sPiN: require, vs what it said to do..
<0> from novell
<0> bad info from novell.
<0> one sec...
<9> I have xgl working and didn't need to do that
<4> your telling me that cool solutions article says to do this?!
<4> that is just plane stupid....
<4> plain even :P
<6> my question isn't where to find a mirror, it is whether 10.1 is considered stable enough for production use
<6> or whether I should stay with 10.0
<4> cblack0: i would stay with 10.0 if i were you
<6> fair enough, thanks
<10> cblack0, if you are so concerned about that, you shouldnt take others oppinions for granted
<4> 10.1 has some pretty serious issues with its new package management, and hopefully there will be updates soon to fix them
<11> sPiN: it does say that
<10> and from strangers...
<11> btw
<0> sPiN: it's the novell coolsolutions for getting Xgl up with SUSE 10.1 w/KDE or Gnome
<9> 10.1 is not stable
<4> im reading it now
<11> yeah
<11> i followed the same guide
<6> so the current/stable symlinks on the mirrors are in fact correct then...
<0> I'd paste the link but I'm using screen and links... with no mouse suport.
<0> support*
<0> :(
<4> wow and it was written by scott too...
<0> see
<0> Told ya!
<0> ok, so I'm just going to reinstall xorg then... unless you car to dcc me that file?
<12> Wow, sPiN ,,,I actaully managed to install it once I was able to get to the right directory!! :)
<9> http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/17174.html
<9> that page should be deleted
<3> :(
<3> why this cant just work
<11> i followed it and it got mine working
<3> !
<3> argh
<4> wickers, go for it, cause im not forwarding a port just for that

<9> rm /var/X11R6/bin/X
<0> lol
<12> getting to right directory is bitch tho !
<0> understandable.
<11> wait
<11> you can just re-enable that syslink
<9> which idiot thought that was 'cool'
<12> err xgl ?? kaiSVK ?? :)
<13> BluesKai, just a try :)
<12> good luck , whatever tthat is
<13> BluesKai, 3D is working so ... :)
<13> xgl ? u dont know what it is ?
<13> :D
<12> oh the the gui
<14> kaiSVK: GL with XGL . but did u read that some ATI cards are problematic ?
<13> BluesKai, thanx a lot
<3> hm do i make the compiz start automatically at gnome start up
<13> Ancient1, yeah I know ..
<15> tuxipuxi_: hiiiiiii
<3> so that i dont have to run i tin terminal
<14> good. GL !
<4> im gonna email scott about this, that is not required
<13> Ancient1, but I can try cant I ?
<16> hi there, i have installed suse 10.1 using the 5 cd images. are there any mirrors that i can add as installation sources so that i don't need to insert cds anymore for installation of additional software?
<16> flosch: hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
<14> you can :) backup system with yast ?
<4> bbl
<12> kaiSVK, I've seen XGL referred to but i'm sorta clueless abou t it :)
<13> clueless
<0> all and all... the using the CLI only is kinda refreshing..
<13> ?
<14> BluesKai: http://en.opensuse.org/Xgl
<12> yup kaiSVK , I'm pretty clueless about linux ...windows has been my thing since started using pcs 7 yrs ago
<9> /var/X11R6/bin/X
<14> BluesKai: same here ...
<3> and again
<14> BluesKai: only I started windows in 96
<9> wickers : ln -s /usr/X11R6/bin/X /var/X11R6/bin/X (and var/X11R6 is a sym to Xorg binary)
<13> !clue
<13> :D
<16> anybody? :)
<12> XGL sounds verrrrry interesting ...so far :)
<14> !yast-sources
<7> For more information about YaST sources and how to add them, check http://susewiki.apanela.com/goodlinks:yast_sources or http://wiki.suselinuxsupport.de/wikka.php?wakka=HowToAddReposandSoftwarewithYastcli * Make sure to only refresh sources that will actually change, as depicted in this screenshot: http://spinink.net/images/screens/yast.jpg
<8> tuxipuxi, you can copy the cd's to your harddrive, and change YaST's install source to the copied directories
<16> yeah good idea, thanks
<14> BadMagic: did u actually try that ??
<8> first thing I do after any install since 6.1
<8> same for doze
<14> I can't install libdvdcss. Software Installer takes AGES if not crashed
<8> (accept of course, you have to hack the registry in doze)
<11> ok
<6> tuxipuxi: or add an ftp source as a software source in yast2->software->installation source. You can find mirrors from http://en.opensuse.org/Mirrors_Released_Version
<11> suse borked my MBR looks like, not bootloader got installed
<17> Ancient1: yast? smart? rug?
<11> and a reinstall doesnt help
<16> cblack0: thanks
<18> !java
<7> To install Java packages, add the following installation sources: installation_sources -a http://ftp.belnet.be/mirrors/ftp.opensuse.org/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.0-OSS/inst-source-java * install the JVM: yast2 --install java-1_5_0-sun java-1_5_0-sun-alsa * install the JDK: yast2 --install java-1_5_0-sun-devel
<19> Ancient1: ditto (not the same package but the same problem)
<11> i can boot into the rescue mode
<6> tuxi: I also believe downloads.opensuse.org may always direct you to a mirror, not totally sure
<11> what can i do for that?
<14> kronoz: yast
<20> I am trying to install Suse 10.0 from a DVD iso in my notebook centrino dual core and I am getting problem. There is one part related to the software that says "Error: No proposal"
<9> wasynyt have you tried the gnomeCC?
<3> nope i dont think so
<14> Azuos001: did u try google ?
<21> argpirate: chroot your system and reinstall grub. or when you are in rescue mode you can juste reinstall it now
<9> argpirate boot Knoppix and grub-install
<20> I can not find the md5 from this iso and I do not know what to do
