<littlesniper> mrcranky: can u see urs this way ?
<littlesniper> mrcranky: i guess u do
<mrcranky> littlesniper, yes, I do.
<mrcranky> littlesniper, but for me the sdxxx devices just appear.
<nagulator> hey hey
<nagulator> is the DVD out????
<littlesniper> mrcranky: the strange thing is that i have nothing at boot but the asus green splash stuff
<littlesniper> mrcranky: maybe this is not a bootable controler, it is an old controler
<jengelh> aka_druid_ : update the topic to include status about the DVD
<mrcranky> littlesniper, maybe the controller has boot disabled via a jumper
<mrcranky> or a dip switch
<mrcranky> or maybe your bios is configured to prefer to boot from an ata device.
<kaiSVK> ****ing crappy soft to make DVD from CDs
<littlesniper> mrcranky: there is nothing on the controler that looks like a dip or jumper
<kaiSVK> it complains that I dont know the root psw
<littlesniper> mrcranky: still i see the controler under linux, and i do have to find out how to access the drive
<frb-work> if older hardware requires patches, and said patches are not actively maintained by the community, it is perfectly sane to "drop" support for them
<frb-work> just like if the kernel itself drops support, you can't expect the distro maintainer to hack it back in for you
<littlesniper> mrcranky: what would happen if the ID of the scsi drive is "wrong"
<mrcranky> if the ID is the same as another device on the scsi chain then the drive wouldn't show up.
<kaiSVK> frb-work, u r my last hope :)
<littlesniper> and what about if there is no other scsi
<mrcranky> possibly none of the scsi devices on that chain would work
<frb-work> I don't know anything, I'm a newb
<kaiSVK> frb-work, why can I just make susedvd from cds ooooo why ?
<mrcranky> well, it's possible you have the scsi ID of the drive set to the same ID as the controller card, which is usually 7
<littlesniper> would this old board check all the IDS to find a drive ?
<aka_druid_> jengelh: what to add?
<Jonah1980> this new software updater thing doesn't seem to work too well, has it worked for anyone else? the little exclamation mark by the clock?
