<apokryphos> sPiN: it's above, before the !forget
<jonah> should i just choose the default option?
<sPiN> apokryphos: you asked for it just before i did the forget, and it is still the same, i just added the google cache link
<benJIman|tov> sPiN: you might want to tinyurl those urls make the factoid shorter
<apokryphos> sPiN: the sf link that the previous factoid provided was the right link to latest makesusedvd. http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=146800&package_id=163319 has version 0.3
<Thanashiba> i can posible to install a suse (base) system with only 1 cd ?
<sPiN> apokryphos: and it still has that link
<apokryphos> alright, it does now
<apokryphos> (didn't a few minutes ago)
<sPiN> it did before...
<sPiN> surrreeeeeee
<tech9iner> haha.. bit quaint seeing server url with 'anl.gov' in it hehe.. i do get bit anal bout gov thus feels kind of appropriate.. lmao
<sPiN> </patronize>
<apokryphos> oh, it made two entries
<apokryphos> odd
<apokryphos> well, one entry, but split into two posts
<VDM> Thanashiba: yes, but u wont have gnome or kde.
<sPiN> benJIman|tov: i would, but i figure the wiki will be back up and able to deal with the traffic by tomorrow or so...
<rohan> suppose i have a dvd with the 5 iso's can, i install suse 10.1 from it, without having to burn 5 cds ?
<apokryphos> yes
<apokryphos> rohan: you might want to add the other non-oss cd there too
<rohan> apokryphos: yes, it will be burnt on the dvd too :)
<sPiN> rohan: it sounds to me like you just have the .isos on the dvd
<rohan> sPiN: yes, exactly
<sPiN> well you arent gonna be able to isntall with that
<apokryphos> rohan: it won't work 8)
<rohan> ok, anything special i need to for such a install ?
<rohan> wtf :((
<apokryphos> rohan: use makesusedvd. /msg susehelp makesusedvd
<tech9iner> hmmmmm...
<rohan> heh, i cant burn dvd .. i have no dvd writer
<apokryphos> ok..
<rohan> bleh, then what do i do :-/
<apokryphos> burn CDs
<tech9iner> well well well.. firefox is broken eh?.. ruhroh.. cant seem to get firefox to open.. oi.. fresh profile in order eh..
<aka_druid_> burno boot.iso, do net install, hd install
<rohan> i dont wanna waste so many cds .. when i have the isos already
<rohan> aka_druid_: it'd still get teh base from net, why, when i already have the iso ?
<rohan> what if i copy the iso to the hdd someplace?
<rohan> i remember fedora offered hd install
<rohan> does suse have it ?
<Thanashiba> VDM, i just need the X server for test a matrox driver
<Thanashiba> and... where i download a iso of the version 9.2 ?
<rohan> like, hey, ofcourse i dont mind copy\ing the isos to hdd, if that means i save the 5 cds :P
<Rodietze> look, I'm a debian user but now I got SuSE, please I like Debian because it is supposed to be Always Free/OpenSource. What are the plans of Novel? will SuSE still like that???
<aka_druid_> rohan: you can make a source yourself, if you have the isos
<aka_druid_> Rodietze: charge ppl a lot and spend in drinks and hookers?
<inositle> what's the mini suse iso for? it's only 35mb
<rohan> aka_druid_: oh .. but no "easy" way, like in fedora ?
<aka_druid_> no no, thats my personal plan, I guess
<rohan> inositle: initiating a netinstall would be my guess
<aka_druid_> rohan: depends what you call easy. Whats easy for me amy not be for you, and vice versa
<Rodietze> aka_druid_ what are u talking about?
<rohan> aka_druid_: bleh .. can i just select a partition that holds the isos and the installer uses them to install my system ?
<yaloki> Rodietze: SUSE is also 100% OSS
<yaloki> Rodietze: + an addon-CD with non-OSS packages
<yaloki> Rodietze: which you may use or not
<Rodietze> yaloki thank you :) I was afraid of SuSE becoming like Red Hat :\
<benJIman|tov> yaloki: do you know if anyone's made a kmp for the atheros drivers yet?
<yaloki> benJIman|tov: no idea
<yaloki> benJIman|tov: huh, have they been dumped as well ?
<tech9iner> hmmmm.. another ruhroh
<benJIman|tov> several people have been asking today
<tech9iner> what happened to /data1 in 10.1 mates?
<sPiN> nice! ftp.oregonstate.edu is finally got 10.1
<RobNyc> rohan,
<rohan> RobNyc: :)
<RobNyc> u getting 10.1 ?
<rohan> aka_druid_: you didnt reply .. i take it as a no ?
<sPiN> so it appears the non-oss-instsource is what the extra source was for 10.0
<JonJ> Since they're going purely oss, are they also removing the ipw2x00 firmware for intel wlan cards?
<rohan> RobNyc: see notice
<RobNyc> cool
<sPiN> JonJ: it was never in the in the OSS instsource before
<RobNyc> rohan, i wanna try it
<aka_druid_> rohan: take it as Im very busy
<rohan> can i select a partition that holds all the 5 isos, and the installer uses them to install my system ?
<sPiN> in 10.0 it was in the EXTRA source, now it is in the non-oss-inst-source
<JonJ> sPiN: Well, I have the retail version of 10.0 which has the ipw2x00 firmware included, will it be included in the retail version of SUSE 10.1?
<rohan> aka_druid_: oh, ok, you could type all that but not a "yes" or "no" =))
<aka_druid_> rohan: you can do what you said. Its not docuemnted
<tech9iner> anyone please?.. so maybe 10.1 changelog includes dropping the auto mounting to /data1 then?
<rohan> RobNyc: go ahead
<sPiN> JonJ: i suspect so
<rohan> RobNyc: and tell me :))
<sPiN> howdy jengelh
<tech9iner> or am i recalling 10.0 wrong?
<rohan> aka_druid_: then, how can i do it ? like, is there an option ? or some special boot parameter ?
<yaloki> JonJ: no, the ipw firmware is in -extra (non-OSS)
<Thanashiba> from where i download 9.2 ?
<sarnold> tech9iner: what is /data1?
<MANITOU> how i can free disk chache in physical memory __
<inositle> sPiN, I can't find 10.1 iso on oregonstate.edu, where exactly is it?
<JonJ> yaloki: Even when you buy the boxed version?
<sPiN> http://ftp.oregonstate.edu/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.1/
<yaloki> MANITOU: there's no point in doing so, the kernel will free up disk cache when applications need memory
<tech9iner> lol.. nm sarnold .. google will explain better than i could
<yaloki> JonJ: the boxed version includes the non-OSS packages
<inositle> sPiN, ah, opensuse folder... and their datestamps are off
<JonJ> Okey, that's all I needed to know, thanks. I'm a fan of convenience. Thanks.
<sPiN> w00t 10 minutes or so and my y2pmsh upgrade to 10.1 will be finished
<sPiN> id buy it if i had 60 bucks to spare...
<sPiN> just to support novell, and because the box looks pretty on my bookshelf
<apokryphos> or if you're very good you get one for free 8)
<BluesKai> wow, 778 peers ...speed was at 300kbs, down to 78 now ... :(
<kingprad> Has anyone else tried makeSUSEdvd with 10.1? On mine when I reached the software selection it reported finding no media. Just wondering if anyone else had this
<MANITOU> yaloki, but is too slow when is full !
<hatchmt> kingprad: are you using version .30?
<apokryphos> kingprad: what version of makesusedvd are you using?
<rohan> 00:52 < apokryphos> or if you're very good you get one for free 8) --> really ? :PP
<sPiN> apokryphos: yeah congrats on that
<jengelh> MANITOU : not at all
<sPiN> good job even
<rohan> sPiN: yeah, i'd get it just for the novell logo .. i love it !
<rohan> oh, apokryphos got a free suse set ?
<kingprad> yes. I did include the non-OSS extra CD on it
<sPiN> he was a top bug reporter
<apokryphos> :)
<kingprad> I might go through the process manually later and see what might have gone wrong
<rohan> sPiN, apokryphos : great ! :))
<kingprad> so no worries if I'm the only one having a problem right now. I'll check into it deeper
<sPiN> yaloki do you get one? you sure as **** should
<rohan> sPiN: what did yaloki do ?
<aka_druid_> rohan: isntall=hd:/dev/hda2/suse/cd1.. Extract all cds to /suse/cd1, /suse/cd2
<yaloki> sPiN: what?who?where?
<rohan> aka_druid_: thanks a *lot* !! :)
<yaloki> sPiN: a free 10.1 ? sure
<sPiN> yaloki: get a free boxed set
<yaloki> sPiN: but I'll buy another one anyway
<MANITOU> yaloki, and my kernel is 2.6.11.4-21.11-smp ?? and i haveamd64 3000+
<yaloki> yes, I'll get one
<sPiN> you are a bad man yaloki :P
<rohan> yaloki: wow, what did you do for novell ? and why will you buy one more ?
<sPiN> ressssspect.
<rohan> sPiN: lol
<tech9iner> mkay.. weird.. firefox just refuses to run in fresh 10.1 install mmmm..
<apokryphos> rohan: he's the maintainer of the guru repository and part of the packman team :)
<rohan> sPiN: i ***ume you wont be getting one ? :P
<yaloki> MANITOU: I don't want to sound harsh, it isn't meant so, but you don't know how the Linux memory management works. Believe me, if I tell you the disk cache is freed extremely fast and automatically by the kernel's memory management, you can go for that.
<rohan> apokryphos: ah, i was just reading about it on cenuij 's diary .. hehe it said yaloki in bold, yet i didnt connect that and the man here :)
<sPiN> rohan: no... i didnt submit that many bug reports, and i dont contrib my articles to cool solutions either...
<rohan> hmm.. how many did apokryphos submit ?
<Azertyuuu> hey all, do I really have to download the 5 CD's in case I want to install Susse
<kingprad> you need the first 3 I think
<apokryphos> didn't know that they had such a policy, just trying to help out so it was a nice surprise :)
<sPiN> by default it will want packages off all the cds... kingprad
<rohan> apokryphos: great ! you made the suse experience nice for everyone !
<sPiN> only a couple off 4 and 5, but it will want them all the same... you can do a netinstall if you dont want to waste cds
<apokryphos> rohan: it's nice to see suse opening up much more to the community. This was the first time they got more bug reports from the community than from engineers inside Novell
<cb400f> sPiN, Azertyuuu: no, standard install kde/gnome in english/german only requires cd1-3
