<benJIman|tov> mekkis: probably the driver for your graphics card doesn't support suspending
<lnxdumi> darrrrrrrrrnit! I downloaded the 32-bit dvd - and my server is 64-bit!!! arghhhhhhhhhhh
<mekkis> wierd... it did in 9.3
<jengelh> lnxdumi: owned
<cenuij> hah
<jonah> lnxdumi: the suse site is still down. where did you download it?
<cenuij> jonah: http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/SL-10.1/
<AskWhy> it's up already
<jonah> thnks
<AskWhy> check it now
<lnxdumi> from nove!! site?
<Bandit101> I got it last night :)
<AskWhy> www.opensuse.org <-- as simple as this :>
<jonah> ah but which is the dvd? they seem to be 5 disc versions?
<benJIman|tov> dvd isn't on the mirrors yet
<cenuij> jonah: no DVD iso yet
<AskWhy> ahh.. can we convert the 5 iso > 1 dvd iso? I can't wait to download the dvd version . grrr.... LOL
<kkathman> benJIman|tov: greetings! if I have a very stable SUSE install of 10.0 is there a compelling reason to move to the 10.1 at this point?
<snowbird> lots useing 10.1 i bet
<jonah> centuij: how quick do the dvds take normally to follow?
<benJIman|tov> kkathman: not unless you want something that's in 10.1 I suppose
<snowbird> whats in 10.1
<benJIman|tov> AskWhy: in theory, the script that doesn it isn't working atm afaik
<AskWhy> http://mirrors.kernel.org/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.1/iso/
<kkathman> benJIman|tov: I guess thats what Im asking...in your expert opinion are there major things in 10.1 that majorly improved or what?
<benJIman|tov> heh
<benJIman|tov> nothing huge from a general user point of view
<daPhoenix> benJIman|tov: Except for the satanic mono invading the system.
<kkathman> seems thats the common threat Im hearing from most experienced Susers
<the_dude> in fact 10.1 will deprecate your kde if you've updated to 3.5.2
<the_dude> daPhoenix: amen
<kkathman> the_dude: ouch
<daPhoenix> benJIman|tov: You'll enjoy a luxury week at daPs KDE Advocacy -camp after which you'll forget all about mono, ximian and other cruddy products :d
<kkathman> lol
<benJIman|tov> daPhoenix: no reason you can't use mono for kde stuff, except for the current lack of Qt bindings
<the_dude> daPhoenix: are drugs involved?
<the_dude> i may sign up
<daPhoenix> benJIman|tov: That's why I said "cruddy products", that includes mono :D
<snowbird> dude can you help me set up wireless ?
<daPhoenix> the_dude: There will be heavy crystal meth usage there. :d
<snowbird> whoes on that?
<jonah> is this version safe to upgrade to from 10.0 without having to do a clean install?
<daPhoenix> the_dude: You'll come out as a new man! :P
<cenuij> jonah: sure but as always with an OS upgrade make backups ;)
<daPhoenix> jonah: I made a test upgrade on one of my boxes, it went 'relatively' smoothly. A few package dependencies had to be fixed manually and DVB broke due to some regression. Otherwise it worked ok.
<daPhoenix> rug and that mono-crud wasn't installed by default - which is nice =]
<jonah> that's good to hear
<jonah> so what's all this stuff about mono then? i always thought mono was something to do with windows?
<tech9iner> kkathman is here too?.. hmmmm.. /me checks the sky..
<daPhoenix> I'm a little wary of the 3.5.2->3.5.1 issues cropping up tho..
<kkathman> rofl
<kkathman> Im always here tech9iner :)
<kkathman> well I was out last week in Los Angeles, tho
<tech9iner> no.. several days you were not chummie
<cenuij> mono is the open source version of the .NET / C# development platform
<tech9iner> aha!!! ;]
<kkathman> yah tech9iner was in LA
<jonah> so why is it so satanic then?
<cenuij> jonah: people have a blind hatred for anything MS related
<kkathman> hehe
<daPhoenix> cenuij: And deep resentment for ximian and all the trash that has come out of there.
<twosouls82> cenuij, nonens :)
<jonah> cenuij: is it really evil?
<kkathman> BUT...Im normally logged in here :)
<cenuij> despite the fact that C# is a very prodcutive language ;)
<tech9iner> !mono
<SuSEhelp> Rumour has it mono is not even near a stabilized platform or API
<twosouls82> :D
<twosouls82> !kde
<SuSEhelp> http://susewiki.apanela.com/tutorials:updatekde
<cenuij> daPhoenix: well no arguments there :P
<AskWhy> SUSE-Linux-10.1-GM-Addon-Biarch.iso <-- what's inside this iso?
<cenuij> i dont care for gnome much myself
<benJIman|tov> AskWhy: non-free stuff
<snowbird> hey suse help
<twosouls82> AskWhy, the non oos
<twosouls82> oss
<AskWhy> such as? mp3 support?
<benJIman|tov> via helix yeah, and java and such
<twosouls82> I guess, I am going to install in just a sec ;)
<jonah> twosouls82: the suse 10.1 dvd? is it nearly ready, i don't know whether to go meet my girlfriend at the train station or stay and install 10.1! hehe
<fsu> I updated 10.0 to 10.1 and now my system doesen't even boot without using boot to installed system -option in bootcd.. :-\
<cenuij> fsu: sounds like you screwed up the bootloader
<twosouls82> jonah, have a look at this http://en.opensuse.org/Making_a_DVD_from_CDs
<cenuij> !fixboot
<daPhoenix> fsu: Boot with the CD, go to root shell and mkinitrd?
<SuSEhelp> boot the install CD, select installation, when you see this screen: http://shots.osdir.com/slideshows/slideshow.php?release=464&slide=5, select 'Other' then click 'repair installed system', then choose either automatic or expert tools and use the boot loader module to re-install grub
<fsu> daPhoenix: I tried that already
<fsu> didn't work
<daPhoenix> And why is it.. SL-10.1 instead of SL-10.1-OSS? :P
<benJIman|tov> they dropped the -OSS name, just one distribution with an addon cd if you want non-free stuff
<fsu> I think raid might be the problem. I have root on swraid.. / -> md0
<daPhoenix> But I want more confusing stuff :-)
<fsu> I have /boot on different partition
<fsu> /boot -> hda1
<fsu> when I boot, it goes to grub shell, but even it don't work. I can't type single char to grub shell..
<benJIman|tov> that's ok as long as /boot is mounted while system is running
<benJIman|tov> or changes to boot loader won't be saved
<Ancient1> fsu: what RAId controller ? kernel .6 doesn't support sofware raid (sil. image chips included) , so it might have seen them as seperate HDDs
<fsu> I bootet to repair mode from cd and mountet partitions to right places. then I exec mkinitrd and grub-install /dev/hda
<jonah> twosouls82: the link doesn't seem to work
<fsu> Ancient1: it's one, which doesen't need driver at all
<Ancient1> fsu wa it hda or hda1 ?
<Ancient1> was it *
<fsu> driver. I mean chip
<snowbird> hey sue help can you he;p me se t up wireless thanks
<fsu> /boot -> hda1, md0 -> hda2+hdb2
<twosouls82> jonah, I see, odd, the page is there though
<Ancient1> fsu , i guess u didn't get warning msg, so u may be fine in that regard
<fsu> 10.0 worked fine..
<Ancient1> oh. ok
<Ancient1> I'm trying to eject a cd i browse with konwueror , I get ; umount: /media/SETUPS_B_09_04 is not in the fstab (and you are not root) . what ??
<snowbird> does suse have own wireless drivers?
<Ancient1> do I have to close Konqueror to eject the CD ?
<chrisag> snowbird: most of them are Windows drivers that are used with a wrapper (ndiswrapper)
<snowbird> chrisag
<snowbird> ok what can i doo
<snowbird> can you help me?
<chrisag> To be honest, I don't know much about setting it up, I haven't tried... but I can attempt to help
<chrisag> !susehelp ndiswrapper
<chrisag> Do you have the package 'ndiswerapper' installed?
<snowbird> not yet i dont know what one for suse 10.0 get
<snowbird> dlink 510
<chrisag> hmmm.. go to yast and software management
<snowbird> ok
<chrisag> search for ndiswrapper
<snowbird> il do that
<chrisag> k let me know when you have it installed.
<apokryphos> time for a /topic change? :P
<easytiger> !mirrors
<SuSEhelp> For inst-sources: < http://www.opensuse.org/Mirrors_Released_Version >. For ISOs: http://www.novell.com/products/suselinux/downloads/ftp/mirrors_isos.html
<snowbird> there are 3 there for ndiswrapper
<jonah> so if i get the torrent it's quite easy to convert the 5 isos into a dvd? will that be the same as the dvd that comes out and be as good?
<snowbird> get em all?
<penguinplayer> anyone download 10.1 yet?
<cenuij> penguinplayer: yeah quite a few people
<snowbird> crisag
<aventis> hello
<aventis> Suse 10.1 has been released, is it OSS version or official version?
<apokryphos> cenuij: any idea if makesusedvd works with it?
<apokryphos> aventis: OSS
<penguinplayer> i just downloaded the boot.iso is http://download.opensuse.org /distribution/SL-10.1/inst-source/ what i would use to do a net install?
<apokryphos> there's an additional cd with proprietary software, as well
