<brainiac_ghost> :D
<benJIman|tov> indeed
<brainiac_ghost> ah
<satsu> knoppix recognizes my usb hard drive as /dev/sda1 when i plug it in. SuSE is not recognizing it at all. lsmod shows that ehci and uhci for usb exist. Is there any trick to getting suse10 to recognize an external usb drive?
<ramz> P-Luc_Auclair: sticky bits :)
<P-Luc_Auclair> possible still?
<benJIman|tov> satsu: it should just work
<ramz> brainiac_ghost: well, honestly if flash is your must-have application, then I guess you're stuck with 32-bit... <shrug>
<benJIman|tov> not at all
<brainiac_ghost> ramz, you can run it, it just means 32 bit will be emulated
<brainiac_ghost> :D
<benJIman|tov> you can use flash player on a 64bit system
<satsu> benjiman-hmm ok..i will kick it ;)
<ramz> okay...so why are we having this conversation?
<satsu> bbiab
<benJIman|tov> either with a 32 bit firefox or with 64bit konqueror (which can use 32bit plugins)
<brainiac_ghost> ramz, well, i was wondering if there was any performance hit
<ramz> maybe I killed too many braincells last night, but why ask the question when you already know the answer...
<benJIman|tov> suse will install 32bit firefox by default ona 64bit system btw
<brainiac_ghost> 64 bit konq FTW
<benJIman|tov> brainiac_ghost: athlon64s run faster in 64bit mode, the 64bit binaries are more optimised than the 586
<ramz> for 32-bit apps? no, I don't think so... especially on the athlon64/opteron since, IIRC, it's just two 32-bit CPUs jammed together...
<brainiac_ghost> :D
<brainiac_ghost> ramz, nope
<brainiac_ghost> ramz, diff arch
<brainiac_ghost> :D
<P-Luc_Auclair> benJIman|tov, firefox can't even manage to support KDE's file explorer, really think they'll do that?
<ramz> gone are the days of 32-bit slowness of the Itanium
<ramz> great... I'll just stop talking then...
<benJIman|tov> P-Luc_Auclair: you what?
<brainiac_ghost> ramz, DW
<brainiac_ghost> :D
<ramz> DW?
<P-Luc_Auclair> benJIman|tov: ?
<ramz> P-Luc_Auclair: to answer your question about the /music directory... read up on chmod/chown/chgrp and "sticky bits"
<P-Luc_Auclair> thanks!
<ramz> ce ne fais rien
<P-Luc_Auclair> I thought you means it was difficult to do (sticky bits)
<P-Luc_Auclair> ;)
<ramz> P-Luc_Auclair: ah... non... pas dificile... ;o)
<P-Luc_Auclair> d'ac!
<ramz> P-Luc_Auclair: sticky bits just force file/directory permissions and such to propogate down the tree
<brainiac_ghost> :D
<P-Luc_Auclair> ramz, cool, wish it was in the GUI though ;)
<ramz> P-Luc_Auclair: you can likely set the same settings with a right click in file manager... never tried it though... :o)
<benJIman|tov> P-Luc_Auclair: what did you mean about firefox?
<P-Luc_Auclair> oh right! it's in special
<benJIman|tov> P-Luc_Auclair: you can do it in the gui of course
<P-Luc_Auclair> I mean that it launches Nautilus instead of Konkeror, I find it extremely annoying
<benJIman|tov> P-Luc_Auclair: justuse konqueror for everything, forget firefox
<P-Luc_Auclair> for some reason I like it better :S
<benJIman|tov> I can't be doing with how slow ff is
<P-Luc_Auclair> basically Konkeror is like Safari? I've read some stuff on that
<brainiac_ghost> P-Luc_Auclair, it uses the same rendering engine
<P-Luc_Auclair> :)
<benJIman|tov> safari uses khtml konqueror's rendering engine yes
<OpenMacNews> hi all. #opensuse told me to "go away" & check here ... ;-)
<OpenMacNews> any freenx auth gurus here?
<P-Luc_Auclair> ramz, thanks a bunch again! man these sicky bits will be useful!
<P-Luc_Auclair> I just recently switched from Win to Suse, as a root it's such a dream to admin stuff
<nexu> hello
<nexu> can anyone tell me where to get gettext-devel-0.14.5 rpm ?
<brainiac_ghost> my net install is evaluating package selection :(
<brainiac_ghost> and spending ages on it
<P-Luc_Auclair> sure.. it's a net install
<P-Luc_Auclair> but maybe you're using a very busy server too
<P-Luc_Auclair> but you probably already knew that
<brainiac_ghost> P-Luc_Auclair, ftp.heanet.ie
<brainiac_ghost> error, package list not found
<brainiac_ghost> :(
<brainiac_ghost> P-Luc_Auclair, trying gwdg
<P-Luc_Auclair> hell.. what's the point to put 7zip in Ark menus when they don't install 7za by default!
<bill-barriere> i got blue tab
<brainiac_ghost> gawd gwdg.de is slooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
<benJIman> bill-barriere: I was seening you
<brainiac_ghost> :(
<benJIman> brainiac_ghost: depends where you are, but it's often loaded
<brainiac_ghost> benJIman, UK
<bill-barriere> am there but only half of me
<benJIman> brainiac_ghost: was getting 200kb/s from it just now from uk
<brainiac_ghost> hmm
<benJIman> bill-barriere: you're a bot bug :p
<bill-barriere> the other is spirit walking or wathever you might belive
<benJIman> seen isn't working on people with - in their name, faux is fixing it
<benJIman> bill-barriere: anyway where was your howto on changing prodid?
<bill-barriere> min
<bill-barriere> http://jarpack.net/updating-93-to-100-little-note
<benJIman> SuSEhelp: prodid is <reply> http://jarpack.net/updating-93-to-100-little-note
<SuSEhelp> benJIman: Remembering prodid..
<brainiac_ghost> argh silly windows
<brainiac_ghost> it is crashing ym pc
<brainiac_ghost> :(
<W8TVI> has anyone been able to upgrade to openssh-4.3p1?
<W8TVI> I'm getting errors when I try to compile: http://pastebin.com/545963
<W8TVI> I'm running SuSE 9.3, openssl 0.9.8a, and zlib 1.2.3
<Nermal> use an rpm ?
<W8TVI> compiled fresh from source
<Nermal> don't
<Nermal> just use YOU to patch any security holes
<W8TVI> Nermal: YOU doesn't have the latest versions
<benJIman> if you want bleeding edge use factory repo
<benJIman> but there's a reason for stable releases, running bleeding edge is not a good idea if you want to use it
<W8TVI> so where do you find the latest openssh rpm?
<W8TVI> I'm not trying to fix security holes.
<W8TVI> I want the new ssh tuneling stuff
<BhAaD> why does suse10 **** compared to 9.2 ?
<BhAaD> i'm using suse10 right now but i cant get anything to work properly in it
<hotte> moin.
<BhAaD> moin?
<W8TVI> benJIman: so were do I find that repo?
<benJIman> factory repository is on a few mirrors
<benJIman> in the opensuse directory
<benJIman> you're better off rebuilding the src rpm if you want to use it on an older system though
<W8TVI> I'm running SuSE 9.3 Pro
<kayleigh> lo nermal:)
<mortici> wewt wewt
<kayleigh> lo
<bu****o> whats the difference about Suse Linux and Suse Linux OSS??
<mortici> hi kayleigh
<bill-barriere> 2.13.90.1-1
<bill-barriere> ho i love gnome numbers ...
<mortici> lol
<mortici> hows the kayleigh doing
<benJIman> bu****o: OSS only contains open source software
<benJIman> mainly
<benJIman> except for some things like pico
<kayleigh> feeling old
<benJIman> which are included anyway for some reason
<mortici> so am i
<kayleigh> woke up this morning with my sciatica bothering me again
<kayleigh> i need to go to acupuncture but i cant afford it
<mortici> that ****s
<mortici> ive been having pretty wicked chest pains lol
<mortici> dunno what it is
<brainiac_ghost> hmmm
<brainiac_ghost> gawd why does eval pkg sel take forever and a day
<benJIman> are you trying todo a network install?#
<mortici> and a day huh
<benJIman> from a slow server?
<benJIman> or on a slow connection?
<brainiac_ghost> benJIman, probably slow server
<brainiac_ghost> :(
<benJIman> download the isos
<brainiac_ghost> :(
<benJIman> isos mean less downtime
<benJIman> much less
<brainiac_ghost> benJIman, no OS on that PC
<brainiac_ghost> :D
<bu****o> can you say that is almost the same using OSS and Retail??
<endir> bu****o, retail supports suse, and comes with media and documentation
