<0> What is a good p***word manager in Linux?
<1> i like kwallet
<2> holy **** i just ran w2k update and it didnt ask for any reboot .... ho and that is funny too that is plain mozilla i just installed ... http://jarpack.net/images/misc/Novell-Ownage.png.html
<3> pm sojorner
<2> the god damn site know its a vm ... how the fsck
<2> its connecting directly to the router not using nat
<0> What do you all do when you have to access a website that requires IE?
<0> I am looking to completely get off Windows
<4> raekism boycot it ;-)
<2> use another website ?
<0> lol
<0> business sense, lets say Sharepoint they are running
<1> raekism, i have yet to have this problem, and it is getting less and less common
<5> Has anyone had trouble burning bootable ISOs with k3b?
<6> mikedep333 and sky_monkey007: thanks both for your help, but the keyboard issue is still unresolved. It works fine when I boot into failsafe, but failsafe mode isn't very useful for me.
<7> moop: ive been away for a long time

<7> did you try using USB?
<7> and did you notice the keyboard settings( and map) under sax2?
<8> Where would one go to request a package be added to a major repository in SuSe?
<6> I just got back too. I tested everything I could find. I don't have a USB keyboard to test. I entered every configuration menu I found, so sax2 is probably included in that.
<7> GTswagger: there's like a package wishlist on the opensuse.org wiki
<7> moop: so you are sure that your keyboard is only PS/2?
<6> yes
<7> and did you use a menu like this?
<7> http://www.pro-linux.de/berichte/jpgs/suse10/suse10-sax2.jpg
<6> similar, but in the KDE menus, yes
<7> well
<7> i would still try to use the sax2 menus
<8> mikedep333 -- are you registered there? I don't want to go through the whole registration process just to suggest one package. I'm a Gentoo user, just trying to get a new Linux project added into the various major distro's package managers.
<7> but did you successfully use another desktop environment like gnome without going into failsafe?
<6> I tested a few of the generics with no success, then reselected the specific model
<7> GTswagger, i guess, name the package
<6> don't have gnome, apparently. I'll just take it back to the next installfest in May. Until then, I'm stuck with XP, I think
<7> moop: what other desktop environments (session) did you try?
<7> keep in mind, it may only be kde that is broken
<8> mikedep333 -- LiSt (linux-stats.org client) .... It's already hit the official Gentoo portage tree.
<7> ok, well one last thing moop
<6> I hit ctrl-alt-f2 and got the command prompt. the keyboard works perfectly fine when I'm in that.
<7> oh
<7> thats good to hear
<6> as soon as I go back to the GUI, even if I select a terminal window (konsole), nada
<7> i strongly suggest you try out using gnome or some lightweight desktop environment though
<7> additionally you can even try using a new user account
<7> just go to the command prompt
<7> run adduser "name"
<7> then log out of kde
<7> and sign in with that name
<9> heyas pplo. having a bit of troubl;e with a dialup modem and getting into secure websites, such as online banking. any ideas as to whats going on ? when its connected by the lan/gateway, the acess is fine. on dialup, its just sitting there saying its waiting for the site
<7> if theres a messed up kde config file for your account, then that would fix the problem
<6> it's beyond me how I'd get those. my level of experience is still too low to do that. I figured if the keyboard issue would resolve, the other solutions would probably be easier to implement... although if the keyboard issue were resolved, I wouldn't need to implement them. Always the way it works, it seems. I might just FTP my files to another machine and reinstall SuSE...
<7> moop, are you chatting from your xp/suse box? if not, i can walk you through it
<8> mikedep333 -- so, could you add LiSt to the wish list for me?
<7> my suggestions involve very few steps
<7> gtswagger: hold on, let me check out lisp
<8> mikedep333 -- http://www.linux-stats.org
<7> moop: i can ***ure you that you have enough experience for this
<6> yes, I'm in xp right now, unfortunately. If I log into SuSE, I would be able to open IRC, but wouldn't be able to type anything, of course. I printed the instructions the last time.
<6> *the instructions you and sky_monkey gave. However, since gnome is apparently not installed (I thought it had been, but it must have been a different time), the xmodmap command didn't work
<7> moop: here are the instructions:
<7> boot as normal
<7> hit ctrl+alt+f2 to go to the console
<7> login as root
<7> run: useradd test
<7> ctrl +alt + f7 to go back to the graphical environment
<7> login as test and see if it works
<6> mikedep333: thanks, and sorry the bot booted you for helping me :)
<6> well... script, or bot
<6> mikedep333: will the new user test have KDE as an environment automatically?
<9> anyone able to help me with a dialup modem issue ?
<7> moop: yes
<7> whoever suggested LiSt: what license does it have?
<6> mikedep333: alrighty, I'm off to test it, thanks once again :)
<7> np
<8> mikedep333 -- GPL
<7> ok, it looks interesting, I'll add it
<7> i hope they dont have a policy against software that collects info like it though
<8> Well, by default everything is completely anonymous and nobody can view your system's page but you.

<8> really about 90% of what the client does is poll files in /proc
<8> which is why the client is virtually crippled by usermode kernels (which lack /proc)
<8> But to me the most valuable thing it does is create an *accurate* database of hardware
<7> yeah
<8> very useful for future purchases :)
<7> it's kind of hard to search for on suse
<7> *on the opensuse wiki
<7> but whatever, I'll add it in the wishlist and hope it hasnt already been mentoined
<8> I doubt it -- it's *very* new
<8> about 80% of the registered users are really leftover from the Gentoo Compile Time Project ("basc")
<8> (which explains the HUGE skew to Gentoo in distribution stats ;) )
<7> yeah
<7> http://en.opensuse.org/Package_Wishlist
<7> i guess it belongs under various
<8> yea
<8> that's my best guess
<1> http://spinink.net/2006/04/03/the-best-picture-i-have-ever-taken/
<6> mikedep333: I did what you said. Ctrl-Alt-F2, logged in as root, ran adduser test and got "command not found"
<7> GTswagger: done
<7> http://en.opensuse.org/Wishlist_Various
<7> it's useradd
<7> my mistake
<7> moop: did you try using a different desktop environment (session) though?
<6> mikedep333: oops heh. I'll go test again. I didn't, no. How would I? I don't get the option.
<10> evening, is a ftp program that come with suse 9.3?
<6> I have suse boot straight in without the login page, since it's a home machine.
<7> moop, yeah, that's not a big deal though, since you can easily log out at anytime to get to the login/session menu
<8> mikedep333 -- woohoo.. thanks much
<7> np
<6> okay, I'll test that too while I'm in there. thanks. back in a bit. With any luck, from within SuSE. :)
<8> mikedep333 -- if you have any questions/news ... or you're curious about the client... #linux-stats here on Freenode
<7> ahh, so you're a dev or something?
<10> is there an ftp program that comes with suse 9.3?
<1> client or server?
<1> well it comes with both... so yea..
<7> once I'm done bug hunting suse 10.1, I'll try it out
<7> oh, is the server software GPL?
<7> or available i should say
<7> lucky: there's like 2 or 3 servers and graphical clients
<8> mikedep333 -- Not a dev per se, but incredibly interested in the project, and due to circumstances I got to know the dev that does work on it (dma147) and work to get it included in Gentoo's official tree
<7> yeah
<7> my pet project is ReactOS ( #reactos )
<7> although they're still so early
<8> mikedep333 -- cool deal ... do you watch DL.TV?
<8> DL.TV is like "The Screen Savers" on the old TechTV... only it's a video podcast
<8> I hit up DL.TV PLEADING for a Linux segment on the show... and they answered up my email! They'll be demoing OpenSuSe (my suggestion for newbie Linux to them) tomorrow at 7:00 PM Eastern live stream ... downloads available about 10 hours later.
<1> GTswagger, really now....
<6> mikedep333: I created the test user, but was unable to log in as test from the login screen because it said invalid login. I also selected another environment for my main login, but again, couldn't login because it needed a p***word which I couldn't enter without the keyboard working. Is there any way to accomplish these logins from the console, then subsequently run the environment?
<1> im gonna have to send them an email and see if i cant get the channel mentioned
<7> moop, there are some things we can do
<7> like using yast from the command line to add a test user
<7> which is really easy
<8> sPiN -- yes indeed
<7> in fact, i'd recomend that
<7> but trying to use another environment will be more work I'm afraid
<7> *too much
<7> since I need to get going soon
<7> oh, i know how to do another environment
<7> from the console, you blank your p***word
<7> so you can just login
<11> hi
<6> I'm not sure how to blank the p***word. If you have to go, don't let me keep you. You've helped a lot. I can wait to solve this problem. Thanks. :)
<7> nm, about blanking the p***word, there's a p***word complexity requirement
<7> i think adding a new user from CLI yast wouldnt work too, since it would ask for a complex p***word
<7> so just forget about it for now
<7> when's your next LUG meeting?
<12> woohoo, one of my screenshots made it to tux. http://www.tuxmagazine.com/node/1000189 http://img420.imageshack.us/img420/4030/tux4ib.png
<6> middle of the month, but it's really shy on newbie support. usually just showing off new technologies and such
<7> ok
<7> if they don't help you
<6> Although I'll see if I can dig for it. Everyone seems friendly enough. :)
<7> email me at msd19@case.edu
<12> and #suse got mentioned on it aswell :)
<1> pjv, they mentioned #suse in their review of suse :)
