<0> so what about vol5, shall I delete it? <1> yah <2> Hi, are there any ext2/inode gurus out there? I had a linux box that crashed pretty hard running RH7.2. This box has a 820GB array that got corrupted. I basically have 434,000 unknown files (named #NNNNNN) in lost+found. Can anyone help? Don't know an easy way to tackle this. <3> stonith: eek. sounds nasty. not a guru i'm afraid. unsure what you could do in this situation other than dump the files somewhere, with some analysis with file, etc. <2> honey: Yah it is pretty nasty. Basically these files are intact. I found a TIFF file and renamed the extension and was able to open it. Unfortunately, its just that 434,000+ files are in lost+found and I don't think there is an easy way for me to reallocate them to their right destination. Just wanted to pick someone's brain to see if its worth the trouble <3> yes, the files will still be valid. but they're in lost+found because the inode information is gone, so it's hard to know what you can do with them, other than leave them for others to rake through <3> as far as i know, the location info is gone. i stand to be corrected by an expert, but that's my understanding <3> i might also add... 7.2?? :) <2> honey: I agree, location information is hosed. Yeah RH 7.2! One of my favorite versions of linux. Well we have 70 servers, and I guess we didn't give it enough TCL and it decided to take a dump... hah. Found the problem to be the SCSI cable, but thats too late.
<3> right, but 7.2 has been unsupportable for aeons... <2> I'm actually surprised that ext2 was still able to keep these files "intact." <3> well, i guess the bits were on disk but the inode info still in memory cache... or something <2> I guess I was hoping to find an answer like "Yeah just run /usr/sbin/connect_inode_to_unknown_file" and MAGICALLY fix this problem, LOL. Worth a shot :P <3> sorry :) feel free to canv*** for more opinion, i'm no guru. but upgrade that 7.2 box! it's soooo insecure! <2> Well 3rd party software (universe) and such relied on this OS. Ugh I don't even want to get into that.... <3> ah sorry. probably not helpful now. but it really *is* unsecurable :) not even legacy support it. shh, honey :) <2> Thanks for responding honey. Take care guys. <4> do you guys know if redhat/fedora has any kind of ram limits? <4> i would like to stuff as much ram into the box as physically possible.. But I know with windows they cap your ram.. :( <5> hi. i'm running rhel4. i am trying to modify limits.conf so that any user can have 2000 open files (instead of the default of 1024). yet, it won't work. i can't understand it. when i make the change in limits.conf (* soft nofiles 2000) i get: -bash: ulimit: open files: cannot modify limit: Operation not permitted when i run 'ulimit -n 1200' or anything. i do '* hard nofiles 2000' as well. any ideas? this should affect all users. <6> dap: dont know what you are on about <6> worked for me <6> /etc/security/limits.conf <6> * - nofile 2048 <6> owell = P <7> hard__ware, He may well be logging in remotely. I think privseperation can cause limits.conf to not be applied when logging in via ssh <6> mutk: not so <6> my test was from SSH non-priv user =) <6> with priv-seperation enabled ... it all depends on his limits config really <6> and "may" of needed to restart SSHd <7> hard__ware, http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/FAQ_45_3504.shtm <---- <6> hrmmm ... <6> well that is not the case here on my Boxen <8> hi <8> how can i add an extra package to RHEL4 ? <9> up2date <9> and maybe join #rhel <10> hi guys... i have a question about fedora... iam not able to join #fedora as i get you are banned message <10> can i go ahead on this? <9> yes <10> sarig: ? <9> why are you banned ?
