<5> hmmm
<12> ok, bye
<15> hi there all
<15> how can set tv card ***7130 ???
<16> I have a server running redhat 8 (its our only server running redhat 8) and it was hard reset twice last week due to power failure...when booting back up it resynced the entire software RAID before finishing the boot process, therefore keeping the machine down for almost 4 hours - is there a way to make it do this in the background post-boot? All our other redhat servers rebuild in the background automatically
<17> mike__: are you sure it was resync and not forced fsck that caused the delay?
<17> if it's running ext2, it may well have been an fsck issue. ext3 systems won't force fsck after a hard reset, but ext2 systems did
<18> it was a resync
<18> i was staring at the screen
<18> it basically did the standard raid startup during the boot sequence
<18> then it said "Rebuilding Raid /dev/md2 using idle I/O up to 100mb/s" or something like that
<18> it sat for around 4 hours with the HD light on solid, then finished booting as normal
<18> normally our redhat systems boot to a login prompt, then after around 1 minute give that message and start rebuilding
<18> But like I said this is our only redhat 8 system :\
<17> that's what I'm used to as well
<18> can't find anything in any FAQs about how the rebuild from a "broken" array actually occurs, just reconstruction after replacing a HD
<17> I'm ***uming that's controlled by /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit
<18> hmmm
<18> wonder if theres supposed to be any &'s in there anywhere :D
<18> ill have to compare this to one of my redhat 9 systems
<17> what's the fstab entry for that md device?
<18> looks pretty standard, lets see...
<18> /dev/md2 / ext3 defaults 1 1
<18> that was put in there by the redhat 8 installer, not modified in any way
<17> ah, root raid
<17> well, I don't have anything older than rh9 to look at here for ideas :/
<18> yeah we pretty much software raid every machine we have here
<18> standard setups, 3 raid 1's, /boot, swap, and /
<18> ah well
<18> maybe ill just rebuild this machine with redhat 9
