<0> how do i become a member on mugshot (http://www.mugshot.org/)?
<1> Hello, people
<1> can you advise any integrity check util?
<1> like tripwire :)
<1> for rhel 3
<2> anyone using mondoarchieve

<3> is /proc/pid/maps updated after a copy-on-write page gets overwritten?
<2> Goran_: more than likely
<2> that's the nice thing about linux ... proc is rw
<4> Any1 can tell me how to manage Policies on FC5? I am newer to SeLINUX, trying to setup VSFTPD to allow users to see public_html/cgi-bin subdirs at home
<5> hi
<6> Hello. I am setting up a box with four drives and want to setup software raid for redundancy. Any recommendations on raid level and setup?
<7> Well
<7> The considerations are speed and redundancy
<7> you could do 0+1 or 5
<7> I'd probably do RAID5 if your processor is speedy enough.
<6> Hatcher: right now i mirrored all the /boot across the 4 drives...but can seem to think trhough how to setup / on the rest...
<6> so raid five will basically allow me to boot off of any drive if there is a failure?
<7> You have to also make sure your boot loader is on the drives as well as /boot
<7> http://www.dur.ac.uk/a.d.stribblehill/mirrored_grub.html
<6> okay so if bootlaoder and /boot is mirrored across all drives, but / is setup as raid five that will do it?
<6> or shall i say will work?
<7> Yea, if done correctly, should work fine
<7> Basically, you'll creave physical volumes on the free space on the 4 drives then put the pv's together in a raid5 logical volume
<6> okay using lvm
<7> yup
<6> so lets see if i get this right.. /boot setup as raid array across all drives, and mirrored
<6> same fro swap

<6> and pvs---to raid 5 ---in lv
<6> for the remaining free space
<6> :/ ?? :)
<6> might want swap in lvs if i add memory or something right?
<7> Well, you don't have to have 2x ram for swap anymore
<7> so the amount of swap you have really depends on what you're doing with the machine.
<7> And sometimes with swap space, less = more.
<6> okay...yep..
<6> agreed
<7> Or, rather, having just a little bit can improve performance on some specific workloads.
<6> okay..
<6> so in lieu of the swap, discussion...the other stuff looks cool?
<6> ie..the raid 5 lv
<7> yea, it'll work. Now, not knowing what the workload on the machine will be, I can't say if it'll work WELL.
<6> right..
<6> its not a db server or anything...sort of file server.. containing many wav files and such
<6> a repository
<7> gotcha
<6> ill give it a try and see how it works out. thnx for the advice. :)
<6> Hatcher: thnx
<6> brb
<7> If you're not looking for high I/O, then it should work fine. RAID5 is generally going to work better on a good hardware raid card, since the RAID5 processing is offloaded and the machine's CPU isn't computing parity for the writes and reads
<8> hello guys
<8> guys how do I normally install the kernel sources on a vmware machine?
<8> how do I install the kernel sources on the vmware redhat like system?
