<0> snappy: ask in #rhel <1> how do i unintsall an rpm file? <1> from console <0> King_Brad: rpm -e <2> hello room. got a question aboud updating/upgrading to fedora core from rh9 <2> scenario: two boxes, one rh9, the other XP. rh9 is running on ok but want to update it to fedora. should i download fedora on the rh9 box or the xp box? <2> hello? <3> Hey, quick question. I've added support for in RHEL4 by using "setup" cmd. But when I type any of these letters they don't show immediately. I need to write another character in order to show one of the . Any ideas? <3> Example if I type: "" then nothing shows up. " " then shows up <3> Which will cause this top happen: "" prints "" <4> hi. I have some problems with installation of fc4. After finishing installing i can't boot. Boot proccess is stoped after mounting root partition in ro <4> that lines are imps/2 blabla <4> init scripts don't start <5> The graphical package manager (fedora 4) is nice but how can it install rpms not on the original CDs? <6> b7155: yum <6> b7155: yum --help
<7> just small Q ..where i can find Redhat 9.0 ISOs? <8> Anyone know of a software that is nice like Gnu cash? But something a bit better? <9> What's the next version of Linux Red Hat? <6> PAWS: Red Hat Linux has been discontinued. Two different products are active, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, currently at version 4, and Fedora Core, which is at version 4, and leading up to version 5. <9> I know Fedora is generally for Developers. I'm switching from Windows XP Service PK 2 to Linux (Enterprise). I would need a new computer to keep up, probably a DELL 64 Bit. <10> hello all <9> Hello <6> PAWS: Fedora is for hobbiest and enthusiests. <6> PAWS: not just for developers. It just isn't suited for enterprise cl*** situations. <9> I ***ume its more flexible. Which do you recomment? <10> quick question...I'm trying to setup a web server at home...I've added apache it's working, on my server comp running redhat how do I get my other comps to access it? <6> I would recommned spending some time trying out a bunch of different distributions to see which ones make most senst to you. <6> jeevangnanam: um, from the other computers: http://ip.of.webserver ? <10> isn't it by defaulst 192.168.1.1? <6> jeevangnanam: no, there is no 'default' IP address. <6> jeevangnanam: from the web server, you can type 'ifconfig' and see what IP address it currently has. <10> oh i c, then how do I get the ip adress? <10> in comman prompt? <6> yes <6> ifconfig <9> c:\ <9> c: ipconfig <6> PAWS: that would be a windows command. In Linux it is 'ifconfig' <9> Sorry about that. <10> hehe <10> for servers linux>windows ? <9> f13: How long does it take to learn Linux Red Hat real well? <6> PAWS: depends on how much of a personal life you have. (; <9> :) <6> PAWS: if you use it for your every day stuff, not too terribly long. Latest versions of Fedora Core are very intuitive. <6> PAWS: I would highly recommend finding a Linux Users Group in your area (commonly known as a LUG) to get in person help. <10> how do I do that? <9> My schedule is wide open for 2 months. Or should I sign up for cl***es? <6> jeevangnanam: google for your city name and 'lug' <6> PAWS: there are Red Hat cl***es, and they are very high quality, but they are soemwhat expensive. <10> hmmm <10> why would ifconfig command not be found? <6> jeevangnanam: you need to be root. <10> I even logged on as superuser...su <9> Red Hat certified cl*** are very expensive. In the thousands!..:o <6> PAWS: certified cl***es yeah. <10> i think i am root <10> have I not installed that option? <6> jeevangnanam: read what I wrote. <6> jeevangnanam: 'su' vs 'su -' <9> Thanks for your help f13. <6> PAWS: cheers! <9> By now. <9> :) <10> aaah ok :) <10> iwconfig for wireless yeah? <6> iwconfig is a tool to manage wireless, but ifconfig will still show what IP address(es) are ***igned. <10> ah sweet i got it thanks ! <10> is there some way I can ***ign a name to it? <6> thats a larger subject. involves host files or a local DNS server. <10> so I just goto applications/system tools/network in fedora and add hostame jeevs.com to a primary dns of the ip i got will that work? <6> no. <6> you can set the local host name and it will work on that local machine, but the other machines wont' have a way of resolving that name <10> yeah that's right.....but why is that? <6> because name resolution requires either a central point to resolve names to IPS (a dns server) or each machine has to have that information in its local hosts file.
<6> name resolution is a rather large and complicated subject <10> i c i wont touch it then <5> f13: yum looks like donig something. I finally ends with some unresolvables - what to do about them - google for these packages? <6> b7155: what were you trying to do? <5> yum install videolan_package.rpm <6> b7155: if it wasn't able to resolve the deps, hrm. You may have to add more repositories. What repository are you trying ot install it from? <5> I just did a fresh install of fedora4 ... I did not enter repositories <5> I downloaded videolan from freshrpms.net <6> b7155: oh I see. <6> b7155: yo uneed to add the repository information. that one rpm will need many more rpms from that repository <6> b7155: either freshrpms.net or rpm.livna.org are good repositories to use. <5> f13: how do I enter repositories? <6> b7155: each page will have instructions on how to do that. <10> do you need to d/l php seperatly for linux?? <6> jeevangnanam: the package is split out yes. <10> or s there some way to activate it within red hat like mysql? <6> jeevangnanam: yum install php php-mysql <6> jeevangnanam: then service httpd restart <10> ah ok....i'll ry that <10> f13 how do u know so much? <6> jeevangnanam: I work for Red Hat (; I've been a Linux sysadmin and software engineer for 5 years now or so <10> lol :) figures.. <10> i tried yum in su - mode it says command not foundf <10> plus does it matter that I already added php=mysl under packages? <6> jeevangnanam: what Red Hat product are you using? <10> under web server packages, i added php-mysql as an extra package <10> enterprise <10> how do I check which version? <6> cat /etc/redhat-release <6> ok, enterprise doesn't use yum, it uses up2date <10> Es release 4 <10> is that the latest? <10> so same command as earlier with up2date? <6> it is the latest major release. Ther ehave been two quarterly updates to it, so the real version is RHEL4 update2 <6> or is it update 3 by now... <6> jeevangnanam: yeah. <10> hey f13 I'm trying to install nola an accounting software, pls check out http://linux.sys-con.com/read/32742.htm?CFID=66834&CFTOKEN=100F30D0-E48B-A1E2-0678139B44FBEB46 <10> there seems to be alot of unesscary steps in this quide <6> jeevangnanam: well, I think they're doing it for a very basic Linux. <10> yeah I think so to..so since I'lve all ready have mysql and pho I should be ready to go yes? <6> sounds about right <10> can you acess this? http://192.168.2.102/nola/index.php <6> no. <6> 192.168.2.102 isn't routeable <6> that is a private space address. <10> ah damn..k it says my php configuration not done <6> jeevangnanam: interesting.... <6> oh hrm. <6> I wonder if you need mod_php <10> that will be underneath services? <6> not sure where it is listed in the gui tool <6> jeevangnanam: up2date mod_php might work. Doublechecking the package name. <6> jeevangnanam: see if you have /usr/lib/httpd/modules/libphp4.so <6> if you do, make sure you restart httpd before checking again. <10> yeah i do <10> ffastest way to restart? <6> service httpd restart <10> same thing :( <6> hrm, so thats really 'vague'. I'd walk through their steps and see what all they want you to do w/ php <8> Hello, a while back i was working with a software to test my windows box's security. It is a linux software that tests known exploits, anyone know of one? <8> i forgot the name of the software i was using =/ <10> exact error:HP configuration not yet done. <10> xdiscx no sorry ask f13 he knows everything <10> :) <8> not nusses btw <10> ah ok, take care f13 <10> thanks for the help <6> np <8> how is metasploit vs nesuss <8> nusses <11> Hello, I just purchased a dedicated server and its running Fedora 2. I want to setup an FTP server on it. I have looked for the ProFTP and vsftp files on the server and do not see them. Can anyone give me some direction? <10> do you have a ftp program?? <11> I am not sure if there is one on linux. I do have one on my windows machine. When you say ftp program do you mean client or server?
