<0> Is their a way to configure qmail not to include 70MB attachments in the failure notice?
<1> dear gawd, who in thier right mind sends an attachment that size
<0> That is what I would like to know as well. But size I'm the postmaster I get the tards failure notice with all 70MB of it as base64 plain text.
<0> s/size/since/
<2> What exactly is it that lives in /var/spool/qmailscan/tmp ?
<3> temporary msgs
<3> that need to be scanned
<3> lol
<4> ok got a problem here i need help, the queue is not delivering, i tried to install magic-smtpd, and that seemed to go ok but i stopped getting mail. i thought it might be something with the tmda i had running but even uninstalling it still does not release messages.
<4> my queue stands at over 4500 messages to deliver and none are, where do i start to look?
<4> btw i already relinked the qmail-smtpd back instead of the magic-smtpd and restarted but still nothing
<4> man no answer yet?
<5> hey guys, my old mail server died so I have, on a new server, installed qmail/vpopmail from scratch. I have all the Maildir's from the old server backed up but when I copy them in the mail clients can't download the messages. Is there a way to do this properly?
<6> my client complained that using spam******in and qmail-scanner to filter their email took too many system resources, so I set up a cronjob to download uceprotect's access list and use it to rebuild smtprules.cdb. It worked great until about four days ago (or so, I'm guessing) when it started blocking ++everything++ except for connections that were explicitly allowed. Have any of you encountered tihs problem? What did you do about it?
<5> rustifer: nobody has spoke in here for ~3 hours, so you might not have any luck (I'm in the same boat) :-(
<6> oh did you have a sudden stupid problem with uceprotect too, midgetarg ?

<5> nope, a totally different problem - I meant the same boat as in here with nobody to answer our questions :-(
<5> you wouldn't happen to know how to successfully copy a Maildir into a new qmail install, would you? hehe
<7> hi guys
<5> hi
<7> i just applied patches on my qmail-1.30
<7> but i got error when i run make setup check
<7> where could i get tutorials about applying patches on qmail?
<7> ?
<8> did the patches apply cleanly?
<7> yeah
<8> does make setup check work on an unpatched qmail?
<7> yeah
<8> is there a single error you can paste?
<7> wait a minute
<7> actually i need to upgrade my qmail-smtpd
<7> so it can supported max recipients
<7> i need to limit recipient for my users
<7> do u have any suggestion?
<8> you need to modify qmail-smtpd, that sort of ability isn't in the stock, iirc
<7> yeah
<7> how do i do that?
<7> do u have any tutorial about that?
<8> well, you patch then build a new qmail, I'd check qmail.org for docs on how to do that
<7> thx caskey
<9> What file contains the max message size configuration ?
<7> databytes
<7> acid: usually in /var/qmail/control/databytes
<9> Cheers
<9> When that's set to 50000000, how many MB is that limited to then ?
<10> acid_: that depends on the number of attachments
<9> Well, I just had a dude complain about only being able to send 8 MB files.. so Im looking to increase the size ... but I cant seem to find any refference to 8 MB anywhere...
<9> (8 mb as max that is ... he can send anything smaller than 8 mb )
<10> your databytes limit is higher than 8mb
<10> you really have no idea how to get from bytes to megabytes?
<9> divide by 8 :)
<10> let me give you a hint: mega == million
<9> so its set to 50 mb ...
<10> yes.
<9> Thanks for the help :) Found my error :)
<9> turns out it wasnt qmail at all... but a combo of squirrelmail and php.
<11> hello all
<11> my queue still a problem to me. :( i've already used "qmHandle" and "qfixq" to resolve my proble to my message queue.. but seems i got no luck. after i use the said tools all my queue drops down to 0, i thought i resolve my issue but after a couple of hours it grew to 6 figures in count. :( anyone here can help me with this? :( thanks in advance peeps!!
<11> is there anybody here knows how to optimize spam******in so that i can block more spams... i think this is the cause why im suffering like this. :(
<9> newbieme, being hit by spammers? :(
<4> ok got a problem here i need help, the queue is not delivering, i tried to install magic-smtpd, and that seemed to go ok but i stopped getting mail. i thought it might be something with the tmda i had running but even uninstalling it still does not release messages.
<4> my queue stands at over 4500 messages to deliver and none are, where do i start to look?
<4> btw i already relinked the qmail-smtpd back instead of the magic-smtpd and restarted but still nothing
<11> acid_: i think so/
<11> :(
<11> you have any suggestions?
<12> newbieme: i just upgraded to latest
<12> then i tuned it
<12> not optimized ... now my spam hit rate is nearrly 99.9%
<12> the magic was ensureing i had all the correctly installed perl (CPAN Modules / Extensions) and also adding Per-User Setting's via SQL so each email address could be tweaked by the user to tehre satisfaction ... so things like Only Email in English can be set
<12> which really destroys allot of that absloute junk mail ... not all ... but defently the ones you know are spam from some forign country
<12> also if you are using Auto White Lists & Bayes Filter /w Auto Inclusion ,,, that can seriously affect your hits if configured wrong ... or if it has been trained wrong
<11> Firebot: since im newbie in this (qmail-spam******in) any docs that can you refer to me?
<12> not really ... i kind of learned it all myself ...
<11> Firebot: i would gladly appreciate your help..
<11> :(

<12> but qmailrocks.org has some info on it ..
<12> the rest is all available from the spam******in.org Wiki
<12> oh yeah .... and google is your friend ....
<12> seriously if you are a newbie
<12> then best if you get the spam******in source
<12> dont install it, just try to compile it
<12> and it will tell you what you ar missing , which can adveserly affect the way it works
<11> Firebot: i use google a lot.. but i read an article that i found in google that one of the best ways is to ask an expert... maybe like you. :D
<12> lol
<11> Firebot: im really really upset in my issue (queue increasing problem) that's why im asking a lot of suggestions from this channel
<12> http://wiki.apache.org/spam******in/
<12> newbieme: how did you install qmail ?
<12> you used source or binary ?
<11> Firebot: actually i dont know.. im not the one who set this up, its just my 3rdweek here and the problem is already 2 weeks now. :( thats why all users that we cater cant recieve any incoming mails from outside world/
<11> Firebot: here is the setup... incoming mails from outside world --->> SA/ClamAV server --->> Mail Server
<11> Firebot: all queues are stuck up in SA/ClamAV server. :(
<11> that's why my initial investigation on that is "spamattacks"
<9> newbieme, have you installed one of those lowlevel filters that check spamhaus.org for know spamadresses ?
<11> acid_: not sure.. :( what about that?
<9> newbieme, well, I had the same problem on my server here.. I had an insane queue because spammers were sending to random accounts, and I was flooding myself with "Sorry this account doesnt exist" replies ...
<10> newbieme: you may be suffering from http://q-p.foo-baz.com/docs/original-patches/ext_todo-20020524.patch
<9> ...a mail guru over here installed a filter that kicked in before qmail even recieved the mail ...
<11> hmmm.. ok.
<11> eh: thanks for the info.. but what kind of script is that?
<7> hi guys i need to limit my recipient
<7> how do i do that?
<7> any suggestion?
<10> newbieme: it's a patch to qmail.
<10> newbieme: specifically for high volume sites.
<10> to raise system throughput
<11> eh: you have a howto on how to integrate that in my qmail?
<10> newbieme: ummm. get the sources to your qmail install, then apply the patch by running 'patch -p1 -i <filename>' and compile your qmail anew.
<10> after that, reinstall.
<10> I don't have a howto, but maybe google can help?
<11> hmmm... you mean reinstall my qmail?
<10> newbieme: from source.
<10> newbieme: not from you binary packages.
<10> newbieme: because those probably don't contain this patch (=change to the sources)
<11> im sorry i got disconnected
<11> eh: where is that URL of patch that u gave to me awyl ago?
<10> newbieme: what OS do you use?
<9> eh newbieme: you may be suffering from http://q-p.foo-baz.com/docs/original-patches/ext_todo-20020524.patch
<11> thanks acid
<11> guys what line in the "run" file (/var/qmail/supervise/qmail-smtpd) that is related to the checking of spam******in/ClamAV in QMAILQUEUE?
<11> eh: RH9 is the OS of my SA/Clamav smtp server
<10> newbieme: ok. that should have 'patch' and a suitable compiler installed.
<10> newbieme: there's a distro which includes the 'big-sites' patch here: http://q-p.foo-baz.com/
<11> eh: thanks.. btw, what lines in /var/qmail/supervise/qmail-smtp/run that check by spam******in? as far as i recall there's a qmail-scanner.pl in that line?
<10> that may be the one. I can't see your run file, so i'm not sure..
<12> newbieme: QMAILQUEUE should be in there
<12> what does it say ... .
<12> its also possible you have no smtp user verfication
<11> Firebot: your right.. there's no QMAILQUEUE in there... wait i'll show u my run file...
<12> newbieme: no need
<12> newbieme: in there it should also list a tcmp.smtp.cdb file (or something very siumlar)
<12> tcp.smtp.cdb =P
<12> ok so sound like you trully do have qmail-scanner ...
<12> regardless ....
<12> whats your Server IP
<11> i dont have either (tcp.smtp.cdb) in my run file
<12> let me check if you have rcpt checking
<11> oh wait there is tcp.smtp.cdb
<12> newbieme: ok www.pastebin.com the file contents to me then
<11> here is the run file of my /var/qmail/supervise/qmail-smtp
<11> http://pastebin.com/753154
<12> ja already look @ it
<12> /etc/tcp.smtp.cdb is in there
<11> yep.. i mislook it
<12> ok paste /etc/tcp.smtp aswell
<11> here is the IP of my server... 206.169.92.53
<11> http://pastebin.com/753158 <<--- /etc/tcp.smtp
<12> 206.169.92.53 is an open relay ...
<12> well @ least apears to be ... the email has not been confirmed as delivered
<12> so you need user verification
