<0> ok <1> hi anybody here? <1> I have problem when I conneect to my proftpd it give me like 5secs to connect and when I upload too many times my upload is interupted <2> how do i add a new user to proftpd? <2> mo****az
<3> hi. I have a proftpd server running, and when i try to connect, the client says "501 PORT: Operation not permitted ftp: bind: Address already in use". So I've googled and found that i need to use p***ive mode to get around that. I've added the "P***ivePorts 49152 65534" line in, restarted and i get the same issues. I've checked inetd.conf and it is not using proftpd or ftp. I've checked before starting proftpd and nothing else is running on that port. An <4> epsilon, i havent been able to make it that way. I got confused :/ <5> XplOzIon: can't help you unless you don't tell us your issue <4> ok <4> lets say that you are a user of my ftp server <4> so i want epsilon account to be able whats in this path /home/downloads and in this path too /home/nzb/ <4> my goal is to be able to set more than one path to ftp server accounts <5> so $FTPUSER should be able to access /home/$FTPUSER and /home/downloads, but not other ftpusers home directory? <4> thats right, i can use a pastebin so you can see my .conf file <4> so, how would i do that? <5> the simple way is to give chmod 700 to all /home/$FTPUSERS, then 750 to /home/downloads <5> each home of ftpusers is chowned by that user (as usual) <5> /home/download has as GID a group where all ftpusers are in <5> then defaultroot to /home <4> not really, my linux info isnt that big <4> im still learning, just started to change my servers to linux <5> what I told yo is basic filesystem stuff...
<4> yeah i know <3> you can chroot users into their home directories <4> so, /home/download and /home/nzb should be in a same group? <4> sorry i didnt explain myself good enough <4> how about if i want some user to see /mnt/downlaods <4> thats another hdd device <4> i think it should be wise to mount that in /home/downloads2/ so all users path is /home/ and they will only see folders that are chmod 750? <5> /home/$FTPUSER is chowned by each $FTPUSER:$FTPUSER, chmod 700 <5> /home/download is chowned by <non ftp user>:<ftp group>, chmod 750 <5> with <non ftp user> I mean f.ex your shellaccount <5> with <ftp group> I mean a new group (see manpage for "groupadd" or "addgroup"), where all $FTPUSER are added <4> hey epsilon <4> i got my problem solved <4> i used mount --bind <4> to mount a folder in another folder!! <4> finally i can have ftp server running smooth! <5> yea that's the nasty solution you should avoid (and more complex than my suggestion, BTW) <4> :/ i been looking to tell proftpd to follow synlinks
