<0> el_mexicano: h:m:s? <0> el_mexicano: hour, month, seconds? <0> When would that *ever* be the right thing to do? <1> el_mexicano: H:i:s <0> I mean, ostensibly you checked the man page to get "Y-m-d", and saw that "m" is "Numeric representation of a month, with leading zeros"? <0> I'm guessing you forgot that by the time you got to h:m:s and just took a wild guess? <2> this, is _awesome_, http://www.modxcms.com/simple-rounded-corner-css-boxes.html <0> jblack: Just for the record, asuffield is right. Anime most decidedly does NOT ****. <3> sorry, thinked in german. i fixed that but there are still difference <0> aidan: That doesn't work correctly on my Firefox. <1> aidan: It still uses IMAGE. <3> i want to search for records wicht are created six month ago, how to create the search pattern fo this? <0> el_mexicano: WHERE date_field BETWEEN <start date> AND <end date> <0> aidan: I have a huge white gap in the background of the box at the bottom of the page, which (ostensibly) uses the same technique as above.
<0> aidan: Which tells me there's a problem. <3> yes but the date field is an integer like "1139577689" <2> tws: right, but not in the HTML. Also, it's a single image which I like a lot. No ****ing around with 4 corner images, 4 side images <2> TML: works for me in firefox? what version are you using <0> aidan: hashphp.org/~joey/snapshot2.png <1> Jakarta*: My home town. <3> i need a search pattern like "113957%" <0> el_mexicano: No, you don't. Use BETWEEN. <0> aidan: Checked with 1.5.0.1 on win32 and 1.0.7 on Debian, same problem on both <2> TML: ah that ****s <1> I think it's because they're messing with pixels. <0> aidan: I run 2048x1536 on both OSes, that might have somewhat to do with it. <1> TML: 2048x1536? <0> tws: Yes <1> Silly prank. I'm a peace lover. <2> TML: ah, yep, the single image is meant to be bigger than any box you'd make <2> TML: once the box becomes bigger than that image it'll break <0> tws: It's nothing that special. You just have to be willing to overdrive the card. <0> tws: One's a Rive TNT2 card, the other is an ATI from the same generation, but I forget the precise model number at the moment. <3> ok thats works, thankx <4> Hi guys. I'm looking for some advice. I'm thinking about developing a PHP app and posting it as freeware, but I'm not exactly sure how I should set up the database. If I create an app for a ton of people to use, do I need to take certain precautions as far as what version of MySQL users might have? Is it difficult to write apps that are general enough to use other databases? Is there anywhere I can go to read up on this kind of stu <4> ff so I don't need to bother you guys about it? <0> The harder part is finding the right monitor. In my case, a 21" ViewSonic PF-815 I picked up at a corporate "fire sale" a few years back for $600. <1> btraut: Suggestions. If you don't know how to do it, don't develop anything for public, please? <2> btraut: You'll need to use a database abstraction layer, like PEAR DB <5> whats the best way to check if a specific value (string) is in an array of string? <0> btraut: You might try using an abstraction layer like PEAR::DB, but be aware that it's going to require you to use a very minimal subset of SQL, as all the DB engines are slightly different in sneaky little ways. <2> btraut: then, you can code for more than just mysql, and DB will handle some inconsistancies <0> kon: php.net/in-array <5> great, thanks! <4> aidan, TML: Alright. Thanks! I'll check into it. <6> btraut: basically you should spend more time reading before embarking on such a project <4> Right. Do you guys recommend any books or tutorials specifically? <0> p0windah: I believe he said he was more than willing to read if we point him in the right direction. :) <7> hey, silly question... <0> btraut: Read PEAR::DB code. Google for "database abstraction layer", and (if you're feeling brave) "object-relational mapping" (or "ORM") <6> TML: I guess you should have mentioned more than PEAR::DB to him then <4> Right now I figure I'm dangerous because I know enough to make a PHP app, but not enough to abstract it for all users. Throw my ambition into that, and I could make a mess :-) <7> but could someone tell me what is so great about PHP as opposed to say mod_perl ? <0> p0windah: Why? PEAR::DB is plenty to read for one lifetime about database abstraction. <0> MrFarts: Nothing. <7> TML, so why does it exist ? <7> TML, what niche does it fill ? <0> MrFarts: Because some people don't like perl <7> TML, that's it ? <0> MrFarts: More or less <8> Will anyone help me with this: http://tainted-designs.com/paste/paste.php <7> TML, so basically it's just a questions of preference <8> When you try to view something...It doesnt work. <7> there is no technical reason to choose php over mod_perl ? <0> MrFarts: That's correct <7> TML, thanks <0> ***uming you consider "programmer preference" a "non-technical issue" <7> TML, well i'm the programmer <0> That might be debated. <8> Anyone? <7> TML, i'm somewhat familiar with perl <0> Tainted-Wolf: What exactly is the question? <7> not really at all familiar with PHP
<8> How do I fix it. <8> Lol <8> http://tainted-designs.com/paste/paste.php?showsource=php <8> View the source there. <7> so it's up to me to choose something <0> Tainted-Wolf: You're going to have to come up with a more concrete description of your problem. You're too vague. <8> You can see it happening. <7> TML, why do you personally prefer php ? <8> Try to view a paste. <0> MrFarts: Who said I do? <7> TML, (I ***ume thatyou do) <8> It doesnt show the actual code you put in. <0> MrFarts: That would be an unsafe ***umption <7> TML, well i figured that you probably do since you're on a php channel <0> MrFarts: No, I just happen to be able to help with PHP. <7> TML, ah <0> MrFarts: Personally, I find that knowing as many languages as I can effectively retain makes me more employable, and more effective in any given language. <9> Where's kuja when you need him to bitch about php? <10> He's always away coding Ruby <7> TML, honestly, i'd prefer not learning another scripting language unles si have to <0> And helps me recognize which solutions are easier to create in which langauge. <10> Can't blame him <1> TML: You sounds like found enlightenment. :) <7> TML, quite frankly they are the same sh*t <9> kuja: heh hey <10> Hey <0> MrFarts: *shrug* I think that's an incredibly poor attitude, and I've explained why. But to each his own. If you don't want to learn PHP, no one here is likely to try and convince you otherwise. <0> tws: Probably before you even left high school. :) I'm an old man. <7> TML, another syntax and cl*** library isn't going to rock my world, sorry <7> TML, another C-based syntax i should say <7> if you were talking about learning LISP, i'd understand <11> MrFarts: Its a very easy language to learn. <0> MrFarts: I'm confused as to why you're still here. As I said, we're not here to convince you. <7> jblack, that's my point :) <1> TML: Not all old man reach enlightenment as in Zen related speaking. <12> any idea how linebreaks (in data) should be escaped in csv ? <7> jblack, i consider this sort of stuff clutter unless i actually need it for something concrete <7> jblack, if i need to modify some php code or there is some compelling technical superiority in PHP i'll learn it <0> poncha|laptop: That's a difficult question. What's going to be consuming the CSV? <11> I'm not quite sure why you're here. <12> TML, excel i presume :( <7> jblack, because i thought that perhaps php had something over mod_perl <11> Yes. <12> TML, i dont control which soft people that get the exported file from me use.. <0> MrFarts: It doesn't. Any other language imperialism should be checked at the door. Thanks for dropping by. <12> but most probably use msoffice i guess <7> TML, do you have sand in your ***** ? <9> uh-oh <8> TML Can you help me? <1> MrFarts: Bad move. <0> poncha|laptop: Well, the problem with CSV is that it's not a standard, so everything treats it a little differently. <0> Tainted-Wolf: As soon as you condense your problem down a bit, sure. <13> any b2evolution users here? <9> Jesus I can't believe he said that. Especially TML treated him so nicely. <8> Gah...I tried explaining it. When you go to http://tainted-designs.com/paste/paste.php, and try to paste something, it allows you to paste the code. But, when you try to view it, the code doesn't display. <1> Narada: And MrFarts proudly PM me `... like I care. :)`. Heh ... <12> TML, ah, btw... one more (related) question :) is there a way of notifying the program (lets say excel at least) of which encoding the csv data is in? i'm usually dealing with UTF8 data, but when such a csv gets into excel on open instead of data->import wizard , its a real mess :) <9> tws: me too <0> Tainted-Wolf: That's too vague. Concrete problems are things like "Line X in the code at pastebin Y does Z when I think it should be doing A. Can anyone explain what I missed?" <1> Now I remember Granada by Andrea Bocelli, thanks to you Narada. <9> tws: you've lost me <0> Tainted-Wolf: I'm not about to read the entire source-code of yet-another-pastebin to figure out your problem for you. YOU need to narrow it down. <14> makes me laugh at how touchy the ops here are when anyone bad-mouths php though... <0> Narada: Narada is the name of a music label in the US <9> I see. <0> Hydra: Hardly. The ops here are the most vocal critics of PHP in the channel. <0> Narada: Releases lots of "new wave" and instrumental music. <9> Yeah Hydra get some coffee or something. <0> Narada: What we called "long hair" in my day <14> Narada, no, it's your turn! <9> Hydra: I can barely hold my head up to drink my double macchiato. Please spare me this morning. <0> Hydra: What *does* tend to trip *my* trigger-finger is anything I consider unprovoked profanity. <14> aye <14> can't argue with that
