<0> itrebal: a what?
<1> RagingStorm: the internals conversation about breaking apps and OO
<0> itrebal: I have no idea about that :) You know, how's my point of view of PHP... :)
<2> richardlynch, winmutt, thanks for the input!!
<3> aec27: no problem
<4> RagingStorm, itrebal: OO Purists breaking backward compatibility versus pragmatists who want their old PHP to keep working. See http://php.net/mailing-lists.php "Internals" archives.
<0> lol
<5> winmutt you dont have color crt do you?
<0> richardlynch: Basically remove the PHP4 functionality?
<5> winmutt try #bdsm
<0> I mean PHP4 OO functionality
<0> Jymmm: lol
<4> RagingStorm: I think today's boo-boo is that cl*** foo {}; $foo = new foo(); if ($foo == null) is different in PHP5. They'll sort it out, eventually. Maybe.
<6> richardlynch: ouch

<7> anyone know of a true type text generator script
<7> i found this one
<4> Stormchaser: The other good point is that they alter the code, and the phpt test file to test the code with it, and then BC is broken as that's not really a regression test...
<7> http://sgssweb.com/experiments/?file=PHPFontImageGenerator2&page=1
<6> Macca`: Google does
<6> I ment MACscr
<7> which is pretty cool, but i cant for the life of me get bgcolor to work
<8> Hi, how can I concatenate two strings?
<7> and definately cant get the output to validate xhtml
<9> dave007: echo "one" . "two";
<6> dave007: $string1 . $str2;
<7> thanks stormy, been googling for awhile now
<8> ok, thanks
<6> !+g10
<10> Guideline #10) We don't support script(s). We help you *write* PHP, not recommend or download and install/hack/modify/adapt/use pre-written scripts
<9> dave007: For future reference: www.php.net/string
<7> Hmm, never new this channel was an official support area where anyone had to help anyone on anything
<7> so with that in mind, general questions really shouldnt be an issue
<6> !+g11
<10> Guideline #11) ##php is a manual supplement. Read the manual FIRST, If after reading the manual you still have difficulties, then you are welcome to ask questions in ##php
<7> the manual is actually more of a dictionary or reference material than a text book or how to, but maybe i just look at it wrong
<11> examples is the way to go
<12> google + php.net is all you need for the basics
<7> yep, those always help me the most
<6> MACscr: No language that I know of offers logical thinking with it. That's all you need -- logic.
<7> unfortunately the examples i have been finding havent been working as specified
<9> Stormchaser: Damn it, that's where i've been going wrong
<7> dangermouse: lol
<6> Dangermouse: :)
<3> is there any way to p*** 2 values to a switch??? perhaps an array???? I have a switch that if the value is pgsql i use information_schema table to get metdata, mysql i use show create table, however mysql5 now has information schema...
<3> i guess an array is probably best way to accomplisgh this in a switch huh
<13> how about changing it to use 'pgsql', 'mysql4' and 'mysql5' as your possible values instead?
<14> or mysql and mysql5, for backwards compat
<15> ok, question about gd. createimagefromjpeg() is causing php to die without errors. I am getting some weird entries in /tmp like 20060511-211120-209.168.175.66-request_body-YoEi. Ive tried both php4 and php5 now, and they both show the same behavior. I realize this may be a bad image, but all of my programs (gimp, imagemagick, windows image preview, firefox, etc) display it fine and dont complain about it being bad or corrupted. Any ideas?
<3> shadow`: changing php ver wont fix the problem, rebuild gd
<3> er
<3> shadfc
<3> god coding in vim a 25lines is killing me
<15> i could try that next, i was using the debs from dotdeb.org
<15> heh, vim is all i use
<6> poor creature
<16> vim does not limit to 25 lines
<3> shadfc: why wouldnt you use the std deb pkg?
<12> winmutt: most likely running stable.
<3> Stormchaser: whats your editor of choice?
<15> well, i was running php5 and apache2
<3> row: thats why i hate precompiled bins distros
<15> other than that, im running stable
<3> shadfc: compile it from source dont be a woos
<6> winmutt: /dev/urandom
<12> pico for nix and phpedit if I am on windows :)
<3> Stormchaser: heh
<3> gah pico
<17> pico rocks
<3> atleast vim has syntax highlighting
<6> ack
<6> kwrite is my editor of choice
<3> pico was great in 1990 when i only had a monchrom monitor
<16> syn on windaz
<9> lol

<17> stormchaser: in a console situation?
<3> Stormchaser: i find kate less cpu intensive
<17> pine still kicks ***
<17> i dont care what you all say *grumble*
<3> pine is good
<3> does it do imap?
<6> winmutt: I didn't say kate. I said kwrite
<6> lith: in console, I use vim.
<12> he said kate>kwrite....
<3> Stormchaser: and i was just commenting that i found kate less intensive than kwrite.
<12> well thats how I took it...
<3> sigh
<9> give him a break, his english isn't that great :P
<3> who stormchaser or mine?
<9> Stormchaser's
<3> english is my second language
<6> winmutt: Um... how can SDI be more memory and CPU intensive than MDI?
<9> lith: It's not a war ! </thatswhattheyallsay>
<18> It's a police action?
<6> yup
<3> Stormchaser : caveat, not that I have really compared the two... I used kwrite for cl*** notes on my p2 300mhz laptop... maybe thats why it was such a hog
<3> quiet down ppl, your raising the channel temperature
<9> lol
<3> and yet i still havent found a section on op abuse
<9> winmutt: Op abuse? Surely not
<17> Anyone seen the celestine prophecy?
<3> Dangermouse: psychological make up of an op abuser is well amusing
<9> winmutt: eh?
<3> what i said
<9> I love that kind of reply. Almost as if i said 'eh' because i completely understood
<19> Greetings
<9> tonyacunar: Hi
<20> eh?
<19> Anyone here do php on a mac? or does it really not matter what your environment is?
<7> doesnt matter
<21> Hello sorry if this question has been asked a bazillion times. but can you have ssi and php parsing on the same document?
<7> my dev uses a mac for his php dev
<6> winmutt: From what I saw, kwrite takes 35m Ram, while kate takes 39m ram... (both 0.0 CPU). I can't see how can kwrite be worse than kate
<3> Stormchaser: read what i said above
<9> What, Mac user's code? I thought they just edit video, do web development and make pretty graphics :-)
<3> mac osx > *
<3> i dotn even own one
<9> round 2..
<3> but man they are sweet
<19> Does anyone here have any experience with upload scripts? i've been hacking at it since 3 days ago and I am getting weird errors
<19> I dont know if its my Script or my server orrr, who knows what
<22> winmutt: here here
<6> <3> Stormchaser : caveat, not that I have really compared the two... <-- how the HELL can you say what you said, then?!?
<19> does anybody think they can give me some tips?
<9> !?!?!!111one11111111!!
<18> Stormchaser: You act as if people should have grounds for what they say.
<9> mattmcc: rofl!
<6> mattmcc: Sorry... I should have know better...
<22> Jymmm: and that's for nothing?!
<6> *snickers*
<19> what does this mean?
<19> [11-May-2006 16:21:32] PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_ECHO in /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/uploader.php on line 3
<3> means what it says
<6> !+parse error
<10> Parse errors show the line where parsing failed, not nessicarily where you made your mistake. Try looking a line or two above the reported error.
<22> damn, he was here :)
<3> you have an unexpected echo
<21> tonyacunar: it says that echo didn't get terminated right.
<5> p0windah: Have a nice day!
<3> Thank you come again!
