<6> ok so if anyone can help then here is a little challenge that I have been playing with for a while (insert head in wall). use php and the gd functions to draw three seperate characters (a b y) perfectly aligned like you would type them. this is not as easy as you would think as the functions return image height yet each is different and hard to align. any takers for this. i will post some sample code soon if anyone is willing to help me out.

<6> imageine a bar chart and you want to draw the bar labels. these are on the same horizontal line. now if you had a label of Y and a label of monday then these 2 images will be different heights and you cant just use the same y coordinates as these will look like they are not level. am i making any sense ?

<6> thats what I am trying to do but don't know how to do it. i can draw the text and calcultate the height but can't figure out how to compensate for the characters like (y,j,g) that go below the current line. none of this is css its pure php / gd and generates a png image. i am just making an example and will paste to pastebin shortly

<6> yes it will be the same font and font size. the only way i can see of doing this is to get the height of a normal char (a) then (y) then (d) and finally (|) as this will give me all the heights and then i can work out where the baseline should be
