<0> mrturtle, are you around ? <1> yep <2> macOnki! <3> heya HolyGoat <3> HolyGoat, what's up? <4> good evening <2> Having a good time at my new job. How about you? <5> HolyGoat - new job? <5> do tell <6> what function can cut the first character from a readfile($filename) operation ?? <3> HolyGoat, new job? <2> enygma: Yeah, I work at one of the larger ISPs in the netherlands now <7> ovis: sibstr() <5> groovy <8> ovis: substr() ? <3> HolyGoat, I'm fine, thanks, messing with Oracle, Tru64, hpsux
<7> substr() <6> yea <3> HolyGoat, hmm, I can't recall what their name was, you did mention it to me <2> ah, we're going to get an oracle box in our live setup soon. Well, soon being 3 months or so, gotta love bureaucracy <2> macOnki: @home <0> mrturtle, the whole goal of me learning php is #1 i've wanted to for sometime and #2 Im young and I have a business that I need to get automated I sell wholesale auto parts and advertise to over 800 repair shops in a 100 mile radius some of our needs are a website that my 2 employees can update ( kinda like ebay ) be able to add and edit and remove product have customers have login accounts to get pricing etc.. and also be able to have cus <0> tomers have access to invoices online ( that really isnt all that important ) but a financial backend would be nice is this all possible with PHP <3> HolyGoat, hmm, are you working at their abuse desk too? :-) <0> and keep track of supplier would be nice we have 337 at moment <7> HolyGoat: Have you seen how much Oracle costs with licenses these days? I don't blame them for taking their time. <2> macOnki: Not exactly, why? <2> dj_segfault: Hehe license costs is not the issue. Procedures are. 4 departments are involved in this process :( <3> HolyGoat, ask them when they are going to fix troubles lonki.xs4all.nl reported (some 100 a day on some days) <2> macOnki: What kind of troubles are they? <3> HolyGoat, spamming machines <2> macOnki: located in the @home network? <3> HolyGoat, yes, hold on <0> mrturtle, or am i outta my mind :( <3> HolyGoat, http://blacklist.kernelnewbies.nl/spamlisting.php?domain=home.nl :-) <1> raden, yes, that's all possible. It's along fairly involved. If you're going to do something that big I suggest you either 1. hire someone to do it for you (cause you'll have to learn a few things to get that done) or 2. consider a PHP MVC framework like Cakephp.org or 3. learn Ruby on Rails and do it a whole lot faster <2> dj_segfault: There are literally hundreds of oracle servers there, the license costs really don't matter to them. I suggested they'd use MySQL (for the exact same reason as you stated), but their response was "money is not an issue, as long as it can be in the same configuration management" <9> how do I echo a variable between " " ? <1> echo "$var"; <0> MVC ? <9> mrturtle: hem, hem <0> mrturtle, im aiming for sept1 06 to have this done i have 5 hours a day to work on it <10> 2106 <1> MVC = http://www.slash7.com/articles/2005/02/22/mvc-the-most-vexing-conundrum <1> hem hem? <7> HolyGoat: Heh. I do consulting on the side for a small company still running Oracle 8. To upgrade to a new server they would have to lay off employees. <0> mrturtle, would perl be better ? <2> macOnki: It's loading a bit slow. But this is about home pc's from @home customers that are used as spam machines? <3> mysql can't replace oracle <9> I have a variable containing a string : <a href... /> <9> I want to diplay a string with that <7> macOnki: Depends on the app. <3> HolyGoat, yes, automated process <3> dj_segfault, true <1> I'm not sure. I don't know much Perl. MVC is a way of dividing up an application into its sections to allow it to expand easily <11> hello all <0> hmmm <2> macOnki: I'll try to find out which department deals with that. Probably internet operations, which are a bunch of stubborn people.. <11> can i use abstract cl***es in php4.x ? <9> mrturtle: but it displays the link <9> that's not what I want <3> HolyGoat, since a month every single issue is being reportede <1> can you show me your variable? <3> reported <2> Well we're not reallyi replacing anything. We don't have a database server in our live environment right now <0> mrturtle, really the way I look at it i just need to display database content have search and a few other lil things <11> hm... HolyGoat ... can i use the ActiveRecord cl*** in php4.x ? <11> (to be more specific) :P <2> jasz: No, you'll have to backport it <11> uh oh <11> working on it... <2> macOnki: Things can take a really long time at essent :( <4> what file-based databases are for PHP5.1? skiping sqlite and msacces? <3> HolyGoat, I don't mind, this stuff is going into the rbl, other people use that to block @home users, amongst some 40K other ipaddresses <1> Raden, that's not too bad. If you got either of the books we talked about earlier, it can be done fairly easily. They include long tutorials to create things like that <2> macOnki: At one hand working at a large company is nice, at the other hand it really ****s in some regards. Things taking very long being a major **** factor in that. <12> Tokeiito: you might look at http://php.net/dba
<3> HolyGoat, I know <2> Installing one database server in the server park takes at least 3 months. <10> HolyGoat install one every 14 days, then you'll have spares <9> murtle <9> $description = '<a href="' . $link_url . $picture['pid'] . '"><img src="' . $thumb_url . '" alt="Photo alatoire"/></a>'; <9> echo $description; <2> And that is _after_ 10 heated discussions about high availability, application management, etc. etc. <4> caffinated thank ypu <9> I don't want to display the image, but a sting containing the html code <12> Tokeiito: no trouble <2> Jymmm: I can't get into the server rooms myself. <10> HolyGoat talk to me on the side, I cn help you with that =) <3> lol <2> Jymmm: I even need a p*** to go to the toilet ;) <12> djib: p*** the segment of HTML image code through htmlentities() <10> HolyGoat np <9> ok cheers caffinated <10> HolyGoat is the head of security female or gay by chance? <2> Jymmm: heh. If that was the case, I'd already be "in" <10> rotf <0> mrturtle, yeah im going to order that book soon <0> anyone wanna buy a really good book ? <0> LOL <13> hey i am looking for a script that will allow me to shoutcast though my site <2> actually security there are a bunch of paranoid weirdos, they said our idea of tunneling samba over ssh was insecure <12> HolyGoat: to actually enter the bathroom? or just to get back in to the office? :) <2> caffinated: Well to get out of the office essentially ;) <2> (and in, too) <12> HolyGoat: ah, entry/exit audit system <2> caffinated: yep <10> HolyGoat is there a crashbar on the door to exit? <14> HolyGoat! <15> Samba over SSH sounds painful. <2> caffinated: And for the restaurant, we need a different p*** <2> AcidReign! <12> HolyGoat: we have the same thing. rfid cards to get in to the office, but they aren't required to get out. <3> mattmcc, painfully slow yes <16> what is the best way for one site with lot of hint per day, to user authentication ? <2> mattmcc: But they don't want to open up samba directly, even on development machines that are on the internal network <2> caffinated: where I work they are required for about every door <10> HolyGoat is there a crashbar on the door to exit in case of emergency? <12> HolyGoat: they probably should do that here too ... they're not as big on building security as they should be <17> is there a way i could have 02 + 1 = 03 ? and 09 + 1 = 10 ? <15> minDscrm: http://php.net/str_pad <17> thanks matt.. checking it out <2> Jymmm: Hm. Not that I know of actually. I've heard some guy telling he couldn't leave the building one day because he forgot his p***, got in with a p*** of someone else, and had to wait for security to get out of the building <14> HolyGoat: new job? <2> AcidReign: yep <2> well since december :) <15> HolyGoat: Hmm. Fire hazard. <10> HolyGoat Huge fire/life safety issue there. <14> HolyGoat: there is no escape. <14> lol <2> mattmcc: Yeah, I didn't think of that yet. I have to figure out how that works asap. <2> mattmcc: The procedures are probably on the intranet, heh. <12> Jymmm: there's always the window! <10> HolyGoat Some companies are so paranoid they dont consider that at all. <10> caffinated have you ever tried breakiing a window? <12> Jymmm: if i need out, and i have to go through a window, it's going to break. <10> HolyGoat get yourself an automatic center punch <18> odd.... Javascript seems to *not* be workign on my compy <15> Procedure: One guy goes outside and inflates a m***ive air mattress outside a large window.. <2> hehe <10> HolyGoat it'll be the best $4 investment ever <2> "Your life means nothing. You are just a number." <12> HolyGoat: the trick is to be an important number <10> HolyGoat: When I was working as a locksmith, and get a call that a baby is locked in the car engine running... we'd show up, say that we can't get in the car and use a auto centerpunch and shatter the window. <2> Our department is right next to the marketing department. Marketing managers, for some odd reason, always start to talk to me about things that don't interest me at all. Like cars. <2> caffinated: 42! <12> HolyGoat: heh <17> rad mattmcc ! <17> thanks alot <19> Hello guys <20> lo
