<2> hammers?
<1> yuck
<3> I'd suggest a cat.. but I've seen what squirrels do to cats
<1> snails hate copper
<0> Perl + Lego Mindstorms + Morton Salt: A Winning Pest-Control Combination
<1> im gonna spray around my plants with copper water solution on a timer
<3> poisoned hazelnuts!
<2> rifle, liquer and patience.
<1> lol
<3> snails hate salt too
<1> you guys are funny
<1> are snails single cell organisms?
<0> uh, no.

<2> no
<4> prism: Forgot the rocking chair
<3> hehe
<2> octoberdan, oops sorry :)
<1> why does salt dissolve snails and slugs then
<2> cause its an alkali
<1> oh
<0> it doesn't dissolve them. it breaks their cell walls and ****s the water out of their cells.
<1> phew
<3> same as peppers!
<0> bad way to go I imagine.
<1> their cells are not good?
<3> I wonder if a habanero would kill a snail
<3> if there were any snails around here, I'd find out
<5> err it doesn't *break* the cell wall...basic osmosis occurs.
<1> I have way too many snails on my balcony
<1> they come back as fast as i remove them
<0> perlmonkey: move to a higher floor
<1> hehe
<3> I believe there are snailbaits
<0> I'm on the 11th floor.
<3> much like jailbaits.. except more legal
<1> the snails dont come at all?
<0> not many snails here in the asphalt jungle anyway.
<0> now rhinoceros beetles, they'll be here in droves in August :b
<0> ugly bastards.
<1> I might have to grow more nightshade
<1> they have nearly finished off that one
<3> rhino beetles seem like a fond memory around here.. damn 3" cockroaches
<0> ew.
<3> saw one tonite.. crawling across the parking lot
<1> wow
<0> I'll take the rhino beetles and cicadas over roaches any day.
<6> towing a ugo?
<0> hah
<1> ive never seen a rhino beetle or roach
<3> I dunno what it was after.. it was headed for the liquor store I had just come from
<1> are roaches common in USA?
<0> perlmonkey: the kids here keep them as pets :\
<3> perlmonkey: yeah
<6> for a minor s&h I'll snail mail someone some of the scorpions we have in our back yard
<1> why dont roaches live in UK then
<6> perlmonkey, depends on where you live, but not uncommon
<6> good taste?
<1> hehe
<3> for a major s&h fee I'll snail mail someone one of the top 10 deadliest snakes in the world
<3> I had an eastern brown snake in my backyard last year
<1> haha
<1> a dead snake?
<3> no
<3> live
<3> had to call animal control
<0> Kulrak: good eats?
<1> it wont get thru customs will it
<6> if it's in a blender it will
<0> weak. just call Steve Irwin
<3> heh
<0> then knock him on the head so he gets bitten.
<3> he's about 1400km away
<1> snake stew?

<3> he'd probably get beaten up on the way
<3> they hate him here
<0> Kulrak: the world would thank you ;)
<0> yeah, I've heard
<0> sick some drop-bears on him.
<3> hehe drop bears
<3> they don't drop out of trees.. but the rest is true
<3> they HATE you!
<0> heh
<1> infi: did a lizard or snake/other reptile come to your balcony yet?
<6> hooray for transient errors on a natted webcluster
<0> perlmonkey: no, but the oddest thing happened a few weeks ago. I went outside and there was a "dog present".
<1> wow
<0> it turned out there was a hole in the side of the balcony and the neighbors dog had come over. but for an hour or two I was baffled.
<1> someone threw it up?
<1> ahh
<6> I was thinking the dog built a trebuchet and had good aim
<0> I had a Monty Python moment trying to devise possible scenarios
<0> hah
<1> hehe
<0> that was one thing someone suggested actually
<3> hehe
<1> I got a seed order to process, damn post is late today
<7> How do I get Tk.pm using CPAN? what should I give as the install argument?
<3> ack
<3> http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_anal_sacs.html
<7> excuse me?
<3> came across that looking for snail poison
<8> due to keywords in the url, i won't be clicking that :)
<3> it's about dogs!
<7> no thanks
<3> ram_einstein: http://www.cpan.org/misc/cpan-faq.html#How_install_Perl_modules
<9> Kulrak's url is at http://xrl.us/mvc2
<7> Kulrak: thanks
<7> eh... I know that part. I'm asking what the perl module I need called
<7> Tk.pm is not something I recongise
<10> eh, i can't really find these chars for the pre and postmatch special vars on my keyboard. any clues?
<11> Wow. I just walked 7 miles 'cause I was bored.
<10> in perldoc perlvar they look very similar
<12> perlvar - Perl predefined variables. To access this perldoc please type, at a command line, 'perldoc perlvar'. You may also find it at http://perldoc.perl.org/perlvar.html
<13> ew73: car? rocket?
<8> ew73, wikipedia articles
<11> From now on, I shall travel by rocket!
<3> ram_einstein: try lopping off the '.pm'
<7> Kulrak: I tried Bundle::Tk
<14> ram_einstein: install Tk
<15> how do you chance @INC?
<7> tybalt89: that simple!? thanks
<15> is tehre a way to add a path at the top of a script?
<13> perlbot: set inc?
<16> to change @INC (perldoc perlvar), recompile perl, or set the PERLLIB or PERL5LIB environment variable (perldoc perlrun), or use the -I option to perl (perldoc perlrun), or 'use lib' (perldoc lib) or fiddle with @INC (not recommended)
<12> perlvar - Perl predefined variables. To access this perldoc please type, at a command line, 'perldoc perlvar'. You may also find it at http://perldoc.perl.org/perlvar.html
<15> thanks
<15> here's another quesiton.. if you are building a perl module that is in C and it links against a library, is there any way to make it so you don't have to distribute the library with the pm? shouldn't perl Makefile.PL LINKTYPE=static do that?
<17> static linking is evil :(
<15> why is that? shouldn't it achieve what i desire?
<13> it's probably a lot more work than you think
<18> yes, but your desires are probably misguided.
<15> hehe
<15> ok. well i'm developin an in-house script that needs to be deployed to some 300 OSX comptuers... none of which have libexpat uness you install X11 (which we would rather not do) .. I'm using XML::Parser which reqires libexpat... so what's the easiest way to distribute this without having to install X11 on all the computers?
<15> i thought static linking would make it no longer require libexpat but i guess i'm wrong?
<19> Wouldn't it depend on whether libexpat has been compiled to have shared and static libs available
<17> SirFunk: why not just compile libexpat yourself and add it ?
<17> .. to the distribution, tha tis
<15> i'm guessing it will require 10 million on ther things :-P
<17> not really
<17> libexpat stands alone
<0> mmm, gold server
<17> and most XML modules depend on XML::Parser, which depends on libexpat
<20> well - half of them
<20> the other half depend on XML::LibXML
<20> and there's XML::Smart, which can run without either
