<0> Hey guys... i've got a perl 5.8.5 specific mystery. I previously had Perl 5.8.6 on my FC4 box, but i needed to downgrade to perl 5.8.5. So I compiled it from source. The issue is, when looking up a host, Perl 5.8.5 checks the DNS first and then my /etc/host file later... My nsswitch.conf however indicates "hosts: files, dns though. Perl 5.8.6 worked correctly. <1> dotdotdot <2> Botje: if a directory is in @INC such as /usr/lib64/perl5/5.8.6/x86_64-linux-thread-multi , is it supposed to traverse subdirectories in there as well? (like in this case, Digest?) <3> This laptop thinks it is clever about fan usage to conserve power <3> With the result that it crashes every 20 minutes by overheating <3> Despite being on AC power! <4> Brend: can you force it from software? Most any Dell can, I know that. <3> Dunno. The cover says "Novatech" <4> heh <4> good luck ;) <2> anyone? <5> bueller? <3> Something dee-oh-oh economics <2> or are you all more interested in overheating laptops and sports drinks :) <2> I'm up against a deadline here, (tomorrow morning) and got this dropped on me at the last moment. I have no prior experience with mod_perl <6> which perl module can i use to strip the HTML tags and print the text, but not all on the same line, instead a line by line dump, similar to lynx -dump ?
<2> and I would be eternally greatful to anyone who could ***ist <7> MrBIOS-work: I don't use mod_perl, sorry. <2> Yaakov: this isn't really a mod_perl specific problem, I don't think <2> more of a generic Perl/@INC problem <7> MrBIOS-work: is it laptop-related? <8> how can i fix a "make had returned bad status, install seems impossible" with cpan? <9> MrBIOS-work: yes .. if that path is in inc, and you are including Digest::MD5, (mod_)perl will look for it <7> MrBIOS-work: The environment in mod_perl has specific--non-laptop-like aspects--with which I am unfamiliar. <9> if it's not a laptop and it doesn't wibble, Yaakov doesn't handle it. :) <10> jade: there is HTML strip <2> Yaakov: I think MD5 is being improperly included.... <10> err HTML::Strip <6> Khisanth, thanks <10> I use HTML::TreeBuilder <7> Botje has committed to helping you. <2> Yaakov: what is the proper way to include Digest::MD5 ? <2> Botje: rather <7> use Digest::MD%; <7> err <7> 5 <2> okay, the bastards code is doing use MD5 <10> jade: but lynx actually renders the HTML <10> if I recall correctly :) <9> MrBIOS-work: I sincerely hope for you the original coder didn't "optimize" all of his use statements like that. <10> looks like ancient code or someone has failed to keep up with perl development <9> grab yourself an axe and start the hunting down <10> Botje: MD5 is an actual module though :) <9> yes. but it ****s. <10> well it's just a wrapper around Digest::MD5 so no more and no less than Digest::MD5 <10> otoh MD5 isn't included with the latest perl while Digest::MD5 is <11> Hi Khisanth <2> what does "Premature end of script headers" mean? <11> It means you did something wrong and the script died before it could do anything or something <11> 500 <11> check your logs <12> hey, i need a little quick help w/ vba, but there seems to be no channel for it so i'll ask here, sorry :/ <13> uh <12> how would i go about retrieving an array and a string from the same function <14> haha <15> aush vba !? jesus christ what's next java >=) <16> this look familar to anyone? Argument ""1"" isn't numeric in numeric gt (>) at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.5/HTTP/Cookies.pm <14> yes, ask about php, sed, vba, haskell here <11> yay <12> mm supose i'll just get wry remarks then? <11> aush, by retrieve, do you mean return? <12> not necessarily <11> it's a simple yes or no answer <12> as i doubt it will let you return different types <11> question rather <12> what about a pointer, call function and have function ***ign something to pointer <12> would that work? <17> what do you mean retrieve then? <12> just set <12> heh don't worry i think i answered my own question <12> albeit my wording is apparently a bit lacking <2> Botje: yay! that fixed it...thanks a ton <16> bug report time... <7> Hey, MrBIOS-work, what about ME?!
<11> :D <9> share the warmth. <11> Botje <3 <10> shift8: looks like you might have something funky in your cookie <16> it's trying to eval the cookie version number, but getting a quoted value. <18> Which provides encoding::source and encoding::stdio <16> Khisanth; its a cookie from a webobjects server <18> Problem solved :) <16> Juerd: what's this? <8> im trying to use CPAN to install DBD::mysql - however it seems to fail with this message - /usr/bin/ld: table of contents for archive: /usr/local/mysql/lib/libmysqlclient.a is out of date; rerun ranlib(1) (can't load from it) <8> - I have mysql 5.1 installed. Is that the issue? <18> shift8: Different <16> shift8: k <13> punkcut: try rerunning ranlib on /usr/local/mysql/lib/libmysqlclient.a <9> punkcut: try reinstalling libmysqlclient? <8> infi : http://pastebin.com/736129 <19> The paste 736129 has been moved to http://erxz.com/pb/1361 <13> broken. reinstall. <8> ?? <8> it was a binary install. and PHP works fine with it <13> it's probably linked against the dynamic library, this one is static. <13> or something. nfi. <16> punkcut: https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-sig-mac/2005-October/002396.html <20> shift8's url is at http://xrl.us/mqef <8> how incredibly... frustrating.. <2> Botje: I spoke too soon..it's partially working, but what happened to MD5->hexhash? <2> Botje: is it now md5_hex ? <8> infi shift8 - it got a little farther this time but seems to be choking on trying to log into mysql.. that doesnt make much sense to me considering it never prompted for a username or p*** (why would it need it anyway?) - http://pastebin.com/736141 <19> The paste 736141 has been moved to http://erxz.com/pb/1362 <9> MrBIOS-work: yes .. <16> punkcut: np = just force install and use real credentials when you use dbi <21> BOTJE NO. <9> as Khisanth said, MD5 is a wrapper around Digest::MD5 <8> thanks shift8 <9> BUU YES! <6> can i set the value of a hash to have two separate fields, e.g. [$score, $text] ? <3> That's only one! <13> no, I think he's asking permission. <10> hash values can only be scalars, references are scalars, follow line of thought to the logical conclusion :) <9> jade: yes. perldoc perlreftut knows more :) <19> perlreftut - Perl references short introduction. To access this perldoc please type, at a command line, 'perldoc perlreftut'. You may also find it at http://perldoc.perl.org/perlreftut.html <6> Botje, thanks <9> Khisanth: fluffy kittens with razors strapped to their ears? <10> exactly <3> No more logic for you, Botje <9> Brend: not even a little formula? <3> NO <3> Go to your room <9> not even a measly conjunction operator? :( <3> You can have "nand" and _nothing else_ <3> _ever_ <9> :'( <9> why NAND, anyway? <11> Brend :) <9> why is that the basic building block? :) <3> Because it was in my discrete maths courses <11> damn, **** this <3> And there was much suffering <11> programming is too hard <9> Daveman: let's become prostitutes! <11> :( <11> I already am <11> :P <11> shift8, go buy yourself a candy bar <16> oh - i see. you's one of dem high dollar prostitutes! <11> duh? <11> whatever <11> go ask evan <11> :P <16> heh <16> anyone bay area locl here now?
